Tata Indica Vista the new variant of Indica from Tata Motors. The new model has evolved nicely since initial version of Indica to Xeta and now to Vista. Pick up any news paper, one gets to notice the ads of this new car almost everyday. Interiors have been focussed more on those ads as well as all new look and the stylish features. I visited the Concorde Motors near Dairy circle in Bangalore last week to take a look at this car and test drive the same. Since I reached the premises around 6:30pm, I couldn’t manage to test drive the car. However, I had a good glance at the demo vehicle.
There are A slight central mid ridge on the bonnet is intended to give a V-shaped front but it resembles the styling of palio a product of Tata’s partner Fiat. Upon opening the bonnet you get to see the Fiat’s popular 1.3L multi jet engine name ‘Quadrajet’. The same engine is in Swift too with the name of DDiS. The c510 gearbox is also sourced from Fiat. But when the indica’s comfort and convenience combines with Fiat’s technology it could be lethal weapon against the likes of swift and i10. There are two other variants of this car apart from Quadrajet, one is Indica Vista TDI and the other being Indica Vista Safire. While Quadrajet(1.3L) and TDI(1.4L) are diesel engines while the Safire(1.2L) is a petrol engine. All these variants are available in 7 colors.
Sales person over there mentioned that the mileage of the Indica vista in city is around 16kmpl and in highway it goes up to 20kmpl for Quadrajet. Absence of ABS and Airbags in the Indica vista lets down the safety features of this car. The quality, comfort and convenience the Indica vista provides are pretty commendable. The boot space at the back and leg space for the back seats is very good compared to other models in the B+ category cars. There is a glove box that can hold even a laptop, under deck space to hold water bottles, cubby holes, wide door pockets and 60:40 foldable rear seats can give you the most comfortable journey that even a class above fails to offer. The front bucket seats are comfy, swaparound at some place to offer support ot every parts of your body. The driver seat is height adjustable. This car seem to be good value for money except that you wont get ABS and airbags when compared to Muruthi Swift. Here is the Ex-showroom price for various Tata India Vista variants in Bangalore as on 5th Sep 2008:

2nd hand petrol zen with approved kit ..i thought its as one option
if 2nd hand wont a better option,i wil go for new

Hi, i am planning to buy safire model, please advice regarding the milage and running cost
Mohan says
@Vijay
For your requirement petrol version suits the best as long as your weekend trips aren’t too far 🙂 Swift has a very good performance record in the market. I don’t have much data points to support Tata Indica Vista Saffire or Aqua.
@Anurag
Thanks for answering. that is short and sweet 🙂
Anurag says
@Prashant Jain
if Mohan doesn’t mind, shud I answer this?
Prashant if this is ur first car then i will recommend u to go for an ‘easy going’ car like wagon r or santro. Though Vista is a good car but its new & maintiance of tata car is bit more tough than these two,their parts & repairs are easily available anywhere.(wagon r is more spacious & versatile than santro) on rd price of Wagon R lxi (in delhi)is 3.30L whereas Vista saffire is (terra 3.73L,aqua 3.93L & aura 4.20L) so u save around 50k bucks 😉
Prashant Jain says
Dear sir,
i want to buy a family car .My budget is approx.4 lacs. I have selected Wagon R ,Santro zing and India Vista saffire terra.I am quite impressed with the space available in Vista. I am bit confused as other two cars are proven on indian roads but in case of Vista , co didn’t claim any milage figure even in standard condition. Please tell that how much milage can be expected from Vista petrol version.Please reply
Vijay says
I am Planning to go for Vista Saffire Terra or Aqua any one. was little bit worried abt. the performance & the milage, got may feedback like Swift is better ?/ blaa – blaa ..
Mohan can you suggest which one should I take.
As my monthlly running is near abt. 250+ may be a small trip on weekend.
I though Diesel is costiler for me as running is less..
can you update…
Mohan says
@Anurag
I am glad you took the test drive. Now you know which is better. It is always a good thing to testdrive yourself and decide on which one suites you the best. 🙂
@rohit
You are welcome!
Anurag says
Today i test drive both Vista TDI & Quadrajet at Autolinks (Delhi).
The driving feel in both the cars is completely different. In quadrajet u dont at all feel like u r driving a diesel car. no noise, great pick up (equal to my petrol santro). comfortable ride. even when u open the bonnet the engine looks quite neat & decently fitted. Whereas in TDI there is more noice, pickup in first gear is quite low, the engine too looks quite complex.
Anyways the on road price that i m getting for both is Aqua TDI Rs 4.12L & Aqua Quadrajet Rs 4.68L. I think both cars are VFM.
rohit says
Thanks Mohan!
@Mohan
Anurag says
Vista quadrajet is a bit out of my budget but i m looking for a diesel car as my monthly running is around 1500-2k kms. How is Vista TDI ? there is around 1lakh price diff between Quadrajet & TDI.
Plz comment about vista TDI performance.
Mohan says
@Anurag
Maruti A-Star would be good for a city drive. I am not sure how it feels on long drive. On the other hand, Indica Vista Quadrajet would be a good option if you frequently ply long distances.
@rohit
I suggest you test drive both of them and then make a call. It is really a personal choice based on the driving comfort and a bit of technical analysis. You may want to read my other reviews here – https://mohanbn.com/tag/cars

Hi,
I am from Delhi and looking to buy Vista aqua..a bit confused with vista vs santro…pleae suggest which one to go for.
Anurag says
I m too confused on which car to buy though i really like Indica vista but i am really worried about Tata after sales & service, i’v heard bad reviews about them whereas in maruti there is no such problem.
Anywys any comments about wagon r duo ? i m getting it for around 3.5l in delhi.
Anurag says
I test drove both Indica Vista Aura Quadrajet & Maruti A-star. Both cars are good to drive & are impressive. But there is no comparisaon between both cars as they both serve different segments. Indica vista disel QJ cost around 5.25lakh, is adiesel car, big car, good for long drives with family whereas A-star is petrol, milage 19km/l, cost around 3.75l, small car but very good driving pleasure, gives very sporty feeling.
Thejesh GN says
I heard its a good car. I am yet to test drive it.
Shiv says
Hi All,
Need suggestions !!
Which one is better A star or Indica Vista Safier? I have to travel around 60 KM per day…so please keep this point and give your valuable suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Mohan says
@Amitabh
Tata indica vista gives a mileage of about 16kms is what I got to know from the sales person and that I have already mentioned in my review above.
@Blitz
You may want to try out Maruti A-Star/Swift, Hyundai i10/Xing. Make up what specifications you are looking at and then decide up on a comparative study among these.
@SRam
Many readers also have endorsed that the Indica Vista is offering a mileage of around 16kmpl. I haven’t really heard anything negative so far about this car so far!
@Yogesh
There you go! Brand addiction hah 🙂
Yogesh says
Looks like I will go with Tata Indica vista instead of an Hyundai i20. I am sold! Maruti Swift would have a good option but i am a loyal Tata customer…
SRam says
I am planning for my first car. I have been to Manipal motors for a test drive of Vista Quadrajet. But my budget allows me to buy Vista Safire. I want to know the milege it gives and engine performance. Can any one share their experience?
Blitz says
I intend to buy a car in hyderabad…i have a budget limit of 400,000…may be able to stretch it by around 10 thousand…i’m interested in the indica vista safire terra, maybe aqua if budget allows…anyone who has experience with the safire?? could you enlighten me?? also, are there any other cars which give lots of space and comfort at this price??
Amitabh says
Dear Mohan plz enlighten me abt your experience on the petrol vista and how much mileage it gives in the city and on highways. Also is there a problem with the suspension of the car
Amitabh
kamal says
Hi Amitabh,
I am driving I-Vista saffire which is a petrol version and completly satisfied with its performance be it in comfort side or in milege front ,you can say its a fine blend of both, though i haven.t much experience/idea of Maruti swift but surely i can say that Indica vista is far better than Hyundai i-10 (space,comfort and lookwise).
My vista saffire is giving me 13-14 km/ltr ,which is good what i feel.

@Jagan Nair
Thats true Jagan. Almost all the car sellers are offering heavy discounts.. you must have seen an ad from Santro as well where in they do mention that they are selling Santro with AC and power steering at a 10 years back price of 2.99lakhs. Thanks for the info though!
Jagan Nair says
Hi All, the price of Tata Indica Vista has come down as a part of December Discounts package. This discount is applicable on all variants of Vista including Diesel and petrol models. Check out with your nearest Indica dealer for more information.

I have driven all varients of indica vista and my vote goes to quadrajet.
Chandan says
Hi Anu and Ram – I own Indica vista Quadrajet. It is a great vehicle. I have so far driven about 4000 kilometers and my experience has been great. QuadraJet is a great option wrt fuel efficiency as well as driving pleasures. Very good value for money.

Thanks for posting the price information. Any one here owns Indica Vista? How is your experience with the car so far?
Mohan says
Hi Arsh, the A-Star car is not launched yet. Hence I don’t have detailed info on the car. Will write a detailed review on Maruti A-Star once I get to test drive it 🙂 Btw., I have a new post on my blog for that new model at https://mohanbn.com/a-star-maruti-suzukis-new-car Check out!
arsh says
it is A STAR .new car of maruti.
arsh says
wish to buy petrol version .any comment abt it.i know comparing vista with a star is not right but it is worth waitin for a star or not.I was disappointed with downgradin of a star(maruti) .
Sunil Rao says
You guys are talking as if you have to live in a car.
I’m driving Vista Aura QJ Since Sept 2 week (one of the first few). I’m really happy with it. Very good milage (21 KM/L) on high ways and 19 in city. I have driven 2100 kms and have no problems. Tata is taking very good care this time that has impressed me.
To compare with Swift and Fiat, I found for the price Vista is quite good.
Space and comfort is much better compared to Swift and quite too. ABS is not really required for Indian roads I feel unless you are driving at 120+ always where you can’t expect good milage.
I did test breaking at 120+ and was impressed, but like Fiat MJ which is much better. In case of Swift you always require ABS coz of very bad design. For your info I was using Swift in France and its very bad on highways, though it has good pickup but stability very poor.The only missing point is the alloy wheels, I wish tata’s should have given it with higher end.
For all, tata’s have really improved from indica v2.
babu says
hey all guys out there ibefore i write any comment let me tell you one thing i am baised for performance and yes vista did not disappoint me ..i test drove the 1.3 qudrajet disel and yes its good but when compared with swift its no where close to swift when compared to that of swift….its a good car but ame old tata indica feel the quality of interiors is really poor but it depends on how your tandard are …i drove a test drive vehicle ndit had hardly done 3500 km nd i felt like it is one year old car ..but the engine is good and it is reponding well…will post u with some further details .and ny query plese let me know ….
Jayanth Reddy says
I am impressed with Indica Vista. Since it lacks ABS, i prefer to go for Swift. I really wish Quadrajet had ABS as predominant feature. Anyways.. Tata cars rock when it comes to diesel variants. Good review 🙂
Anand says
Nice review. I didn’t like the back of this car though. Tata Indica Vista variants look to be an exact replica of Fiat Palio 🙂 when looked from the back side. Also for tall people like me, this car is not for us. The head touches the roof even after setting the seat hight to the lowest. May be a bit of tweak to the design would have greatly appreciable.
Jeevan KM says
After reading many reviews on indica vista, I have booked the petrol variant Vista Safire. Tata has greatly reduced the amount of noise from engine. I got impressed in the very first test drive of this vehicle. I like it. It is more stylish and beautiful than the old ones. I never liked Indica’s any model but this time i really liked it and it is the best car of TATA.
Dorai Rajan says
Since both the diesel engines (quadrajet and tdi)are a known hit, i haven’t bothered much about the the performance in the long run. This tata indica vista will be a hit.
Sudheer S says
I feel very comfortable with the dashboard console being moved to the centre in the new Indica Vista. It avoids lot of distraction while driving. Why would one want to peep into console very often? I have booked my Vista Quadrajet and waiting for the delivery.
Kishore Sharma says
I didn’t like the way the console has been designed. It is difficult for a driver to look at the odometer/speedometer. Even if driver needs to look at that, there is every chance of he loosing concentration at high speeds and might lose control of the vehicle. This is a bad idea.
Ram says
Somehow, I still feel Maruti swift is better than Indica Vista. Any top end Swift model rocks compared to Vista. More over Maruthi is known for its country wide service and economic maintainance benifits.
mohan says
Hi Biju,
Sorry, I have no clue on the price of vista cars at Cochin. You may want to check with a nearby Tata Motors dealer. Thanks for your compliment.
Biju Fernandis says
Nice review. Thanks for the price info, however any idea on what would the price be in Cochin for Quadrajet engined Indica Vista?
