Maruti Ritz is the latest car being released in 2009. Here is a quick sneak peek review on what you can expect from this car. More details to follow after the test drive for which I have already registered 🙂
Engine options:
- All new K12M Petrol engine that is made completely of aluminum. Because of this, it is light in weight when compared with other engines and expected to yield a good mileage. This engine is a 1.2L, 1197cc engine and is capable of putting out 85 PS of power at 6000rpm, with a torque of 113NM at 4500 rpm.
- If you are skeptical about the performance and reliability of the new petrol engine, you have an option to choose a diesel engine. 1.3L, multijet Diesel engine that is currently powering the Fiat Linea is the other option. This common-rail diesel is 1248cc engine which develops maximum power of 75 bhp.
Interiors:
Looking at the images suggest extensive use of plastic parts just like A-Star and with its stylish new interiors the Ritz also offers a center console designed to give a strong presence and easy access. It also has a host of other features like a large independent speedometer, colored fascia, dashboard display, comfortable seat fabric as well as door trim which further contribute to the fresh appeal. Another noteworthy feature here is the gear shift lever is ergonomically shaped and is positioned relatively high in the centre console (see the picture above) to minimize its distance from the steering wheel and permit extra storage space.
Mileage and Price:
The company claims that its latest K12M engine offers a mileage of 17.8 kmpl in city roads and 21.8 kmpl on highway. If this is practial, then Ritz can be recognized as the most fuel efficient car in its segment and Maruti is expecting very good market response to Maruti Ritz because of its mileage. Also, it will be first car in Indian market which will be equipped with BS-IV compliant K12M engine. Ritz will be available in 7 variants with two engine options as mentioned above in a price range between 3.9 to 5.2 lakhs along with a choice of ten colors to choose from, eight of which to have a metallic finish.
Variant Non Metallic (in Rs.) Metallic (in Rs.) RITZ LDI BS IV 4,63,970.47 4,63,970.47 RITZ VDI (ABS) BS IV 5,16,005.20 5,16,005.20 RITZ VDI BS IV 4,93,903.73 4,93,903.73 RITZ LXI BS IV 3,88,367.88 3,88,367.88 RITZ ZXI BS IV 4,80,417.08 4,80,417.08 RITZ VXI ( ABS) BS IV 4,43,701.89 4,43,701.89 RITZ VXI BS IV 4,18,683.43 4,18,683.43
** These are Ex-Showroom (Indicative) prices for Bangalore. I know the prices look the same for both metallic and non metallic, but that is what being displayed on Maruti site as of now. I shall correct it as and when the data gets updated.

Hi,
I have Ritz VXI. I have drove more than 1000 KM still i am getting the mileage of 13 to 14 KMPL…in city…i wann to ask you is that ok or it is underperformance..
sachin says
I really repent having purchased RITZ petrol.. I have done 20,000 kM.. I get an average not more than 12km on AC. Even the ground clearance and suspension of this car is pathetic.. If three people r sitting on back seat the car the car will scratch to ground even on the normal speed breaker or bumps(in kacha roads).. Some body please buy it i wish to sell it at 3,80,000 with system, insurance and accessories..
srinivas says
Dear Sachin,
You are correct. Iam also getiing 12.0 kmpl with AC in city. Mileage ia very poor. I own Ritz Lxi
D.Pundry Murthy says
My Ritz(Petrol) is giving a milage of 11.5 Kms after first servicing. At the time of purchasing vehicle ,Marketing person of Saboo Motors (Hyderabad) claims that the vehicle will give Milage of 15Kms after first servicing.
srinivas vempati says
Dear Mr. Pundry,
This is really rubbish. They are just trying to fool you. You will get maximum of 12 km/ Lt. Do the Saboo motors have the dare to give in written that you car will give 15 kms after first servicing?

Kirankumar Jayantilal Mehta says
I have purchased Ritz VXI. I am thoroughly dissatisfied with the performance of Gear, Clutch and Power Steering. The most disgusting fact is that Maruti Authorities are not attending but avoiding the complaint. I am looking for easy solution of selling at a discount.
Domnic John says
Hi Guys,
Maruti Suzuki Ritz is a highly reliable car. I am using it for the past 1 year and whether it is monsoon or summer or winter, whichever climate, Maruti Suzuki Ritz is tackling all the problems like excessive heat, water clogged roads, the ground clearance is good, so I drive the car when every other car corners! Also, Maruti Suzuki Ritz is a Maruti product, so no worries for resale value too!!
dey says

Ritesh says
Hi
i bought ritz LXi one month before. recently i approach MASS(authorize service center) for first service. they changed engine oil and filter when car runs only 1000 km. however in K series engine oil needs to change after 10,000 km. it was also mentioned in service book.i am not sure whether they use proper grade oil or not. because my car is riding very heavy after first service. It is really horrible experience for me to find that MASS guys with lack of knowledge. What should i do ? can anybody advice me?
harsh Joshi says
Hi Ritesh,
First keep those bills safe, if they have charged around 1500 then they have used non synthetic oil if they have charged 3000+ then it should be Synthetic oil and your car should run smooth.
Call up the MASS and ask them to refund your money if they don’t call Maruti and lodge a complaint. Tell these guys you will approach Consumer Forum.
In fact the the oil should be changed only after 10000KMs for diesel Ritz. I wonder why Maruti changes in 10000KM. Advice use Synthetic Oil
Jitesh says
Maruti Ritz is giving consistent mileage of 16 kmpl. Ritz is stable at high speeds. Ritz has enough interior space such as legrooms and headrooms. We like to drive her across any road stretch
Prasanna says
I was searching for a good hatchback and found Maruti Ritz is better than Figo. Its because, Maruti is tall boy model and hence, easy to drive in neck braking city traffic. Also, Ritz has good ground clearance. Ritz is giving a constant mileage of 18 kmpl. I have touched 140 kmph in Ritz, the straight line stability is perfect and cornering is also better. With 4 adults and full AC, the diesel engine gives no turbo lag, making it a breeze to drive for long hours continuously. go for Ritz.

I got my second servicing done. Also have got the Teflon coating. Now here are two truths about claiming Insurance. Being a newbie I banged my car while reversing couple of time earlier (lamp-posts, trees etc). The corners below the front lights got scratched badly and the fender suffered good amount of damage that it needed replacement. When I went to the showroom to claim insurance, the guy said that i got to write an incident which would account for all the damages on the car – in a single event. Obviously I could not be that imaginative, so I claimed for bumper replacement this time. Was advised to go for other claims two months later. Ok about the Teflon coat. I got the teflon coat and have to admit it makes a difference. The car is at once shiny (brick red), most small scratches have been removed. The downside- I was billed 3800/-.
Why is it a downside? When I went into the workshop, I found that Teflon coating is not an in-house service for any of the Maruti showrooms in Bangalore and they outsource it to “individuals” who come with a big “sandook” or “tin-box” with teflon wares in it. So on a designated day, the teflon guy comes in, coats the car, collects his payment, goes. No relation to Maruti of any kind. So why give Maruti the margin. For our readers here, I got a card which claimed that the Teflon coat that I got was of the brand “Miracle USA”. So google for this in your respective city and approach the guy directly, you might save 50% of the expense.
I’m yet to procure my seat covering. Finding it tough to decide. Don’t want genuine leather coverings. I observed few seat covers, specifcally in Honda City, which had a kind of a velvety finish to it. Anybody can throw any light on this Also need to procure a keyless entry system. Would Autocop suffice? Any thoughts?
harsh Joshi says
Hi go for Stanley they are genuine and best quality. Showroom is on 100feet road Indiranagar next to Barbeque Nation. Don’t use art leather you will sweat and they are uncomfortable
