Maruti Ritz is the latest car being released in 2009. Here is a quick sneak peek review on what you can expect from this car. More details to follow after the test drive for which I have already registered 🙂
Engine options:
- All new K12M Petrol engine that is made completely of aluminum. Because of this, it is light in weight when compared with other engines and expected to yield a good mileage. This engine is a 1.2L, 1197cc engine and is capable of putting out 85 PS of power at 6000rpm, with a torque of 113NM at 4500 rpm.
- If you are skeptical about the performance and reliability of the new petrol engine, you have an option to choose a diesel engine. 1.3L, multijet Diesel engine that is currently powering the Fiat Linea is the other option. This common-rail diesel is 1248cc engine which develops maximum power of 75 bhp.
Interiors:
Looking at the images suggest extensive use of plastic parts just like A-Star and with its stylish new interiors the Ritz also offers a center console designed to give a strong presence and easy access. It also has a host of other features like a large independent speedometer, colored fascia, dashboard display, comfortable seat fabric as well as door trim which further contribute to the fresh appeal. Another noteworthy feature here is the gear shift lever is ergonomically shaped and is positioned relatively high in the centre console (see the picture above) to minimize its distance from the steering wheel and permit extra storage space.
Mileage and Price:
The company claims that its latest K12M engine offers a mileage of 17.8 kmpl in city roads and 21.8 kmpl on highway. If this is practial, then Ritz can be recognized as the most fuel efficient car in its segment and Maruti is expecting very good market response to Maruti Ritz because of its mileage. Also, it will be first car in Indian market which will be equipped with BS-IV compliant K12M engine. Ritz will be available in 7 variants with two engine options as mentioned above in a price range between 3.9 to 5.2 lakhs along with a choice of ten colors to choose from, eight of which to have a metallic finish.
Variant Non Metallic (in Rs.) Metallic (in Rs.) RITZ LDI BS IV 4,63,970.47 4,63,970.47 RITZ VDI (ABS) BS IV 5,16,005.20 5,16,005.20 RITZ VDI BS IV 4,93,903.73 4,93,903.73 RITZ LXI BS IV 3,88,367.88 3,88,367.88 RITZ ZXI BS IV 4,80,417.08 4,80,417.08 RITZ VXI ( ABS) BS IV 4,43,701.89 4,43,701.89 RITZ VXI BS IV 4,18,683.43 4,18,683.43
** These are Ex-Showroom (Indicative) prices for Bangalore. I know the prices look the same for both metallic and non metallic, but that is what being displayed on Maruti site as of now. I shall correct it as and when the data gets updated.

Hi,
I want to buy a new car either SWIFT or RITZ. I am unable decide which one should buy? Plz suggest me and petrol vehicle is better or diesel version. I drive the car 1500 kms per month.
pranav says
i bought a new Ritz couple of weeks back, it’s excellent and I feel great for my choice. It gives 19 km/pl on high way and 16/pl in city with AC. The smoothness of the engine is better than others in the same segment. With full load the performance of the engine is excellent, the shift from 2-3 is much better than other car. The high seating position gives you great comfort while driving. The car is very spacious and excellent for elders to feel comfortable
Sourav says
Hi,
I am a proud owner of Ritz VXi for over a month now and find my decision to be extremely wise! Its an excellent car, infact the best offering from any manufacturer in recent times,in this category.K-series engine is a gem,it is super silent & the ‘cabin sound insulation’ being very nice, sometimes I am unable to make out whether the engine is running or not ,while idling.
The car is very stable even at high speeds (I have found it to be planted to road even running over 100 kph).
Space inside is very adequate for 5,with excellent leg room and head room-both on front and rear. I have been getting an avg mileage of 16-17 kpl (60% city and 40% highway driving).Mileage depends on many factors, the style of driving being one of them.Excessive use of clutch coupled up with putting wrong gear at wrong speed are some of the factors, which may affect the fuel efficiency.
Regarding the style,no doubt its an unconventional one,so would take time to get used to.But,over the time me and my family and friends have been liking it very much.
Overall, its an excellent car to own.
somesh says
hi sourav
yes i have also enjoyed cruising in ritz vxi, i travelled in bangalore hyderabad highway, and i feel like going in 70 or 80, though the speedometer reads 140. splendid experience.
vineeta says
Please check the mileage, you can do it by test driving 50KM so that you can be sure that you don’t get a lemon. I made that mistake and I am only getting 9.5KM/litre, no improvement since May. Local dealer always tells me to drive more and it will improve. I am planning to sell it and may be buy i10 or i20.
Abhishek says
Hi I am willing to buy a ritz Lxi, I have seen its interiors and found it to be really impressive. Moreover the wheels r big and it gives it a macho look, and as if it is always ready to move. The gear positioning is superb and is smooth too, the front sits are comfortable and wide and is positioned higher so u get a feel as if u r in a big vehicle like Tata Safari kind. I talked to some of my friends about it, but they suggested the rear of ritz is awkward as if some body has given a kick in its bump and it has thus low room in the dickky , some suggested to go for hyundai getz, I am bit confused which one would be better, further if I go for Ritz then should diesel or petrol o, my my daily running is 30 to 40 km daily. Or should I move for petrol for petrol & later got cng kit fitted. Kindly reply
vineeta says
the base model gives me 9.5 km/ltr only
Unnikrishnan Nambuthiri Oachira says
Please check whether you know driving Vineetha?
unnikrishnan namboothiri oachira says
Now iam the proud owner of a ritz vxi . dealer told me that you will get a milage of 19 Km/litre.is it right?
Prateek says
not 19 but surely 15 that too after some time….cheers
Unnikrishnan Nambuthiri Oachira says
Dear friend , I purchased a Maruti Ritz Vxi .I have already driven 1500 kms. Rough calculations shows that my Ritz gives me a mileage not less than 17 kms/ltr in local roads and near about 20 kms/ltr at high ways (partial A/C). I don’t know the mileage in city conditions as I am living in a Kerala village.
Prateek says
The car is awesome. One of the best in looks, style, space and the features it offers …. I am an owner of Maruti Ritz ZXI since August 09 . In city it is presently giving an average of 14 with a/c . Although it will definitely increase because at the starting the mileage was around 10 then it has constantly increased and will easily go on till 16 i guess . K-series engines are simply outsanding on mileage . As for seating, 5 can EASILY sit in the car there iz not any problem with that. The electronic Power steering rocks too.
krish says
its one of the Hatchback with all Gr8 features….talk about looks, Mileage….space….ground clearance….this is the all in one for a consumer can think of…….ritz rocking…..
Raghunath says
Hi,
I’m planning to buy car in next 2 months. Mostly i will go for Ritz. Please advise will prices will shoot up after budget due to change in Excise duty rate. If yes, then i prepond my buying option. Please tell quantum of change. Raghu
Rohini says
Hi All, I am planning to buy Ritz early next month. Any specific extra things you suggest for this car? I am going for the top end diesel variant. Any suggestions/reviews on mileage?
Dwaipayan says
Yeah.. I am getting 12KM/lt in city condition wo AC…
vineeta says
9.5 KM/Litre, sorry for typo
raghu says
Hello all, here is a link that claims that RITZ diesel can give up to 32 KMPL on highways. Any comments please? http://autos.in.msn.com/designsafetyandmore/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3398168&page=0
Mohan says
That sounds too funny to belive given the context of user feedback here on this blog!
Sudarsh says
I bought my RITZ LDI in October this year and originally posted less mileage in this blog. I just got done the first service in early Nov and did a mileage check. I am getting 16.68 Km/L of diesel.
The ratio between highway and city drive during this period of mileage check was 65% highway: 35% city traffic and that of AC usage was 60% AC on and 40% AC off since the outside temperature during night drive had dropped due to recent monsoon in Chennai.
Hope the info was useful.
Sujith K.S says
Hi, I bought Ritz LDI in August 2009. Till now I have covered 10000 Kms., both city and highway. As per the approximation, I am getting 16.9 kmpl in city and 20.5 kmpl in highway. This very good when I compare with my friends’ cars.
raghu says
Many existing users have contributed. What is consensus on city mileage with petrol and diesel engines? Thanks.
Mohan says
Hi Raghu, i wouldn’t able to comment on that since I don’t own a Ritz. I am sure, there are a number of readers of this blog who own Ritz would be able to comment on that.
Having said that, some of the users have indeed mentioned the mileage of Maruti Ritz in various comments on this article. Please go through them.
vineeta says
I am getting 9 to 9.5 miles per hour in noida city. I bought Ritz in 30 th May 2009.
raghu says
Vineeta, Sure it is miles and not KM?
Mohan says
Also, are you sure, it is per hour and not per litre?
vineeta says
it’s 9.5 KM/Litre, sorry for typo.
Raghu says
I’m in Bangalore. Bought Ritz Vxi in Dec-2009. Its giving me 10 KM/liter with AC within City.
Iam sure about the way I have calculated my mileage. Looks like I have been suckered. Now i have to go through the whole head-breaking process of convincing the dealer (Madovi) that the milage is low. He will tweak the engine and ask “me” to re-check. If the milage does not improve I need to break my head again convince him about the process of checking mileage. He will make another tweak and ask me once again to test. In stead of making my life’s goal to find out why my Ritz Vxi is giving me 10 km/liter, I will focus on other productive areas of life and stop. I think quality with Maruti is increasingly a matter of luck. The worst part is you cant really say how the next car being sold will perform.
Vineeta says
I have complained to Rohan Motors in Noida and they told me that the car has to be driven long distnace to get good mileage. I am getting only 9.5 miles/litre in city till todate. I bought Ritz in June 2009. Please help and I want to know if I bought a LEMON.
Vineeta
Sudarsh says
vineeta
I guess you have a petrol version. You need get it tuned. 9.5 is poor mileage. I too had problems with my LDI diesel which is gave me 11.5 on city (30%) : freeway (70%) routes with all time AC on. After first service, its slighty improved to 13-14km. It wont get any better. Their ad went on to say 20kmpl of diesel. All crap.
giri says
i am planning to buy a hatchback car for my dad.
me and my dad took test drive of a ritz zxi and i20 asta.
i 20 is good to drive but , the tire noise comes inside the cabin even after the windows are up.
for a 1.2 l engine the cost of aste is high. can the tire noise level be redused by changing the tires if yes can u also suggest the tires. At present i am driving hundai elantra 2005 model just gone 51k but the suspentions life is gone. will it be the same condition fo i 20 asta. ?
in the case of ritz every thing is fine but the placement of clutch is too high therefore i am able to get a pain while driving . the do i have to adjust the clutch or all ritz owners have the same problem.?
kindly reply.
giri says
dear people any one reply pls?
Mohan says
Hi Giri, i haven’t felt any issues with the positioning of clutch in Maruti Ritz. I found it to be normal.
Ravi says
I own Ritz VXI since last month and finding it excellent. The style is good unlike the other car. Its eye catching on road. Milage I get is 15kmpl, first servicing is yet to be done next week. Its good family and city car. As turning radius is small so no problem in the traffic congestion and parking. Recently I read that this is the only car that can run on Petrol+ethonol 10% blend if govt go for petrol saving. Also this is the BS IV emission vehicle add all to the advantage.
satya ranjan mishra says
I need maruti Ritz zdi model please help me to know about the model cost and date of lunching etc.
hp says
How well are the ritz petrol’s power range and gearing suited for hill stations as compared to i10 kappa, i20 and swift?
Sudarsh says
I own an LDI since about a fortnight now. Went for LDI since I already had Sony DVD system from my previous car I sold and wasn’t interested in stuff like ABS, fog lamp, rear seat head rest (which is actually very uncomfortable for me), etc. Instead I topped it up with 4 door power windows and remote lock the shortcomings on the base version. Now it looks more like the VDI from features that are absolutely required or me and costed 20K less by toping up option!!
The mileage seems to still shock me though its too early now. Its only giving 12Kmpl of diesel with AC running all time but 80% of my drive is on freeway !! There must be something wrong. I need to check this with the service station when 1st service is due next month. Lets hope it gets resolved soon.
Mohan says
Congrats on your new car! That is a smart option to save some money 🙂 Usually mileage wouldn’t be that great before first service. So, please share your experience after first service of your Ritz LDI.
somesh says
hi mohan
i have a question. generally, they say, mileage will increase after the first service. today, i gave my ritz vxi for first service, i have been getting 15kmpl on an average and ARAI certifies it to get 17.7kmpl. ok thats another point.
while filling the job sheet, the executive said, my cars’ first service need no money to be paid, i asked about the engine oil change, he said ‘there is no engine oil change for ritz till 10000 kms’.
Now my question is – oil change is the first factor that influences the mileage and engine re-gaining some constant performance, so without oil change, how can we get more mileage? if we are getting, what will be done in the first service? just water servicing or any technical adjustments?
I would appreciate your answer as soon as possible.
Thanks
Somesh
somesh says
i am getting 15kmpl on average with full a/c ON
Chandan says
same question from me…. no oil changes in 1st service.,.,of my swift vxi ??? now hw can I expect mileage increase?
Javeed Khan says
Hi All,
Last week i have got my car, RITZ, VXI and it is superb. Headroom, leg space, front view, back seat comfort, mileage, internal space every thing is superb..
Mohan says
Thanks for your comment. Would you mind sharing details on mileage as many people are giving diversified range here?
sana says
which is better swift ldi or ritz ldi !!!!!!!! do reply ???? or should i go with ritz lxi………………
Mohan says
Sana, there is no straight answer to your question. Depends on your usage and priorities. If you are going to use it on a daily basis for travelling not less than 50 kms, I would suggest you go for diesel vehicle ie., LDi. Otherwise, you can opt for LXi which has a petrol engine. Swift or Ritz is again a question of personal preference based on looks and comfort.. test drive both and decide the one that you like the most 🙂
N.M.Mishra says
Dear mohan,
my height is 6 ft 3 inch , kindly suggest a car and my budget is approximately 4.5 lac.
Monu Jain says
Hi
I didn’t think about back seat head rest utility .I purchased LXI keeping my pocket in mind.U can go for VXI if u can afford it.
Monu Jain says
Hi friend
I m owner of Ritz Lxi.U can definately go for Ritz .Don’t worry about pickup and mileage.I am getting 16.0 km/l on highway with AC.I mostly use my car on highway therefore can’t say about city milegae.I hv take test ride of i10.U may feel little less pickup in Ritz and at the same time its power streeing is bit sturdy compared to i10.My car has just finished first service.I am still keeping watch on mileage.I will update my feedback in coming days.
Its correct that more numbers of Ritz diesel on roads and people still think to buy petrol one. Those who wanted to go for Swift LDI or VDI and now prefer to buy RitzLDI or VDI because of its fresh look.So don’t think that pertrol version has any shortcomings.
Mat says
Thanks for your valuable replay.
What is the main reason for you to buy Lxi. I initially thought to buy lxi. but it does not have back seat head rest. I really need that for my parents. Can we separately fit the back seat head rest in Lxi variant? If it is possible i can save around 30k. I don’t really need power windows and tachometer.
Srivathsa says

Mohan says
Hi Gaurav, thanks for sharing your experience.
Mat says
I heard the pickup is less compared with other cars(Petrol) in the same segment? Ritz petrol owners please give your comments on this?
gaurav aggawal says
i owned ritz zxi (petrol) it has a great pickup . iam running in valley of himalayas

Monu Jain says
dear shruti
i m too proud owner of ritz lxi.I purchased Ritz on 24th June. i have found very comfortable driving on highway and getting good mileage .Can we keep in touch to compare performance of Ritz? Please feel free to mail me at < *moderated* > ? waiting for positive reply.
Mat says
hi ,
Can you please specify the millage you are getting in city and highway? What about the pick up of new K12B engine?
gaurav aggawal says
it has a great pickup . here in hills of himalayas i am getting 14 to 17 kms of millage . go for zxi variant
Jigar patel says
Hi monu I am planning to buy Ritz LXi Please tell is it worth or not?
shruti says
” I OWN MARUTI RITZ”
Myself and my hubby did lot of reading, checking around, etc…before we decided among the small cars ( close competation was i10).
I vouch completely for RITZ, amazing performance, just a no nonsense car.
I would any day suggest Ritz ZXI, if you r looking at small segment cars and also trying to compare with i10.
In recent magazine ( can’t recall the name); Ritz is voted the most preferred!!!!!
am happy with Ritz!
Mat says
how much millage you are getting for your zxi?
Mohan says
Hi Suresh & Pradeepta,
I haven’t test driven Hyundai i10. But I have good feedback on that car from my friends and colleagues. Seem to be a good car for city drive. Ritz I test drove sometime back but haven’t written my review here. It is a nice car too. Both are good choices. I suggest you test drive both of them and chose the one that best suites you. As far as the looks are concerned both are stylish and trendy. Performance wise they are equally competitive I would say.
Suresh Sikdar says
I am planing to buy a car. Please suggest me that for which one i shud go. My budget is 4.5 to 5.5 lacs. My preffered brand is Maruti Suzuki.
Vinita says
I recently bought a ritz during the launch time, I am only getting less that 10KM/litre. Is it something wrong with the engine. My deler told that it will give good milage after some time. Is it true ? or I just have a lemon.
Monu Jain says
Dear vinita
which varient of Ritz you have. i m too owner of Ritz Lxi.I hv purchased on 24th June 2009.I m getting mileage of 15 Km/lit.
PKP says
can you tell more about your experience with the car as I am trying to finalizing between i10kappa and Ritz soon.
rajesh ahuja says
you are sure that you are getting the mileage of 15km,I had driven around 1300 km and getting only mileage of 12 in city and 16 on highways with Ac on and off(mixed).
Mohan says
I think 10kmpl is way too less on city roads against what the company claims. Can someone who own the vehicle comment on this?
Mat says
Hi Mohan,
I ma planing to book VXi, is it a good decision? i am more concerned about millage.. how much you are getting (city/highway) with A/C on? I see most of the ritz on the road is Diesel variant..
Thanks
Mat
Harsh Joshi says
Hi I own Ritz VDI (ABS) I get slightly ablove 15KMPL in city with AC on have not yet driven it on long drive although looking forward to it. Is this good milage or will it improve have done 5000 KMs
rajesh ahuja says
Did your mileage improves,I am getting only 12km(mixed on city and highway).
shruti says
Hi Mohan…Thanks for the comments..
We did check with Maruti on this issue and they say, we had to bring back the glasses . tell me, how can we ever take back those shattered glasses. All we could do was take pictures at the spot, so we have a proof. My Husband enquired about this a lot, we are definetely very very surprised. Maruti cannot help, since we don’t have glasses with us…sad
btw… nice reading this post!!!! good write up…
Mohan says
Hey Shruti, thanks for dropping in and commenting. Wish you had atleast bits and pieces of that shattered glass so that you can send it for testing. At the same time I understand that it was completely out of your thought to collect the samples. Glad it wasn’t injurious to any of you.
naveen singh says

Hello mohan,
Please tell me out of Maruti ritz vdi, swift vdi and indica vista quardjet which is the better car in all aspects..
Mohan says
Aman, my preference would be swift vdi. Then again, it is a personal choice based on after sales service, mileage and value for money.
Monu Jain says
Hi Mohan
I have booked Maruti Ritz Lxi based on its review from UK market as well as due to brand image of Maruti. Sometimes I feel that I am taking wrong decesion as i am going to buy new car whicj has to yet prove on indian roads.I like Hyundai I10 also but due to feedback about its poor after sales service , i am not going for it.Please give me correct advise as i may have to take delivery on tuesday.Waiting for reply.

@Shreyans Go for swift vxi…. on road price in blore is 5.3 lakhs. Very spacious n style aspect of it…. should I have to say anything. Handling is terrific… I’v done lot of long drives n I drive it as if am kimi of ferrari(am a ferrari fan n I’v a red hot swiftie)My swift has been through 2 services….. 2nd service bill was 500 bucks. Thats way too lesser than my HONDA UNICORN bike service:) 🙂 🙂 I was shocked to c the bill:)
Mohan says
@Shreyans
Thanks for the compliments. I haven’t test driven Ritz yet. Hopefully I get a chance to drive it over this weekend. Looking at your requirements, it is still not very concrete on what you are looking for. Mentioning about mileage and maintenance doesn’t really help without knowing the kind of usage you intend.
@saran
Nice to know that. Look forward for more input from you with regards to practical and regular driving. Congrats by the way!
@Ash
I too feel the price is on the higher side. It would be too early to comment on it unless one really gets to drive and feel the comfort 🙂
Ash says
I took the test drive for Ritz VDi ,i20(Asta) and i found Ritz has a better driving comformt then i20.
Features with i20 is better but why to pay so much for a hatch back type.
saran says
i went 2 d showroom n saw d car i liked it quality is of top notch according 2 small segment cars but i was really disapponted with d price i feel its pricey n there is not much difference of price between d top end models of swift n ritz so as far as d brand is concerned i dont think it vil be a flop ofcourse its 4m maruti and d showroom guy told me d car vil give 15 kms per litre guarantee so i hope d diesel version shud give more.as far as styling is concerned the car looks stylish, clean.so i liked it n i already booked d zxi model.
Shreyans says

@Ruchi
The price of Maruti Ritz is not clear yet. I feel the data on their site is incorrect as it is showing up the same for both metallic and non metallic models. Need to wait for test drive and the actual price before commenting on it.
@Yogesh Goel
Yes, I agree with you. At the same time, it could be a competitor for Maruti Swift as well!
@Sanjana Wadhwa
Please check with your nearest Maruti dealers for discount specific information.
@P.Sevugan
On the outlook it seems very much the same with following specs:
1.3L DDiS 4-Cylinder Diesel
All Aluminium, 1248 cc DOHC
16 valves, 4 valves per cylinder
Fixed Geometry Turbocharger with Intercooler
Max power: 75PS @ 4000 RPM
Max Torque: 190NM @ 1,750-2,250RPM
@Rajat
Yeah.. only drawback could be the very small boot space.
Rajat says
it looks a good car for a small family lets wait for performance
P.Sevugan says
Would like know more about diesel engine and its variant ?
Is the engine same as Fiat Linea?
Sanjana Wadhwa says
