I know many of you are still busy in playing FarmVille game on facebook. As mentioned before on this blog, here I am sharing the brinjals (Egg Plant) from my GardenVille! You can read about that mention in one of my previous posts here. Yes, home grown brinjals from my tiny rooftop garden. All these pictures have been clicked over a period of time as the plants grew bigger. Most of these were planted in soil filled bags instead of conventional pots. It was again a kind of experiment to see how good the plants grow in such bags. I am pretty happy with the outcome! The size of brinjals from the plants in bags were considerably bigger than the ones in pots. You can witness that it yourself in the images below. Click on images to see them bigger.
Now, you must be wondering about one different colored brinjal. Of all the greenish white brinjals, why only one is yellow in color? Well, I left it to ripen so that we can dry the same later on to extract seeds. With these seeds, we can start a fresh season once again! If you were wondering about the ‘BT Brinjal’ controversial stuff, here is some clue for you. Seeds can’t be extracted from plants like what I have mentioned here with those genetically modified BT Brijals. Everytime you need Brinjal plants, you got to buy them from a Bio-Tech seeds company. That is one of the major ire for farmers to oppose BT Brinjals.
Also to provide a quick update on the Chrysanthemum flowers, they have been blossoming all this while for over 2 months! Now the time has come to remove them and change to some other flowering plants. Brinjal plants may yield for another month or so. Stay tuned to know what I am going to grow next 🙂

my brinjal plants are very healthy grew in pots. But problem is that when the flowers come after some times it fell down. i used cow dung for the plants. but brinjal not come on the plants so plz tell me whts the problem

I use the soil that is rich with decomposed leaves and cow dung. No special manures as such.

Congrats for a great harvest. It’s cool. I really love gardening myself. However, the point I would like to make is about BT Brinjal.
The fact that the fruits shouldn’t be rather than they can’t be used for getting seeds for the session of planting is that the GMOs can’t be allowed to sexually reproduce in a natural environment, because the recombination and modification of “genes” might lead to something completely undesirable. That is primarily due to recombination and mutations. You can control the first one, while the second is not in your hand.
Though another accusation might be that the GM research companies are looking to exploit the farmers monetarily. This could be true, but there is a better reason for it (as explained above).

Method of cooking brinjals fry
brinjals fry is simple ,heat oil in a pan ,ad onions ,chillies ,curry leaves to it ,Stir for few minutes and add garlic ,turmeric powder and salt .Stir well till onion turns pink .
Add baingan pieces & stir well –close the lid of the pan till brinjal turns to be soft .
Now your brinjal fry recipes is ready ,if you like you could add mustart seeds also in the beginning & allow it to splutter before adding onions & other ingredients .
Try to cook brinjal fry with minimum oil & allow the brinjal to get cooked in the steam by closing the pan with a lid & keep low flame .

Thank you! No I live in an independent own house. You can grow them if you have sufficient sunlight reaching the terrace and the plants. Tomatoes is pretty easy compared to brinjals, it doesn’t need that much of sunlight nor the care 😉

my fb activity is ….accept friend and fan page invites….skim through other’s activity..comment some, like some , and out in less than 10 minutes…i do this two times a day atleast….i have also automated it to receive all my twitter comments……but it has been enough to garner peoples interest in my blog and am 6-7 short of hitting 300 fans mark!! woohoo!!

For once it is nice to read not a controversy about the GM Brinjals but just fresh ones from garden we love. I have lived most of my life in Bangalore and I love the city. Had home grown veggies back there… I miss Bangalore so much. Sigh!

Fresh vegetables are good for health and taking care of these plants is good exercise for the body too.

Once upon a time there was baingan. People called it Brinjal but baingan preferred being called baingan. And so it was called baingan by every one including Mohan. Slowly and slowly baingan grew up and so did Mohan. Mohan became fond of baingan. Fond meaning real love that is. He would not let any one touch baingan. While all the other friends of baingan were cared for and played with baingan himself was lonely because Mohan was not always there. Most of the time Mohan was busy blogging. baingan became suspicious of computer. By and by he got convinced that Mohan was not in love with him but with his computer.
And thats when he turned yellow with envy. Yes, baingans turn yellow with envy, at least this one does. Thats the one you see in the picture above. As for its seeds, Mohan has to be very careful- These are envy seeds. All the baingans which grow out of these seeds will be yellow envy baingans. Still want those seeds, Mohan? Think again.

I don’t eat brinjal at all.. there is only kind of brinjal sabzi I like which my mom makes. Anything else with even a hint of brinjal I don’t touch.

Oh.. you are missing Brinjal curry’s for sure! You should taste few of them that my mom prepares… you will be diva of brinjal there after! Right now it is just Chillies, Brinjals and Tomatoes 😉

Yes nice collection from your roof top garden.Nice idea to use the soiled filled bags.Yes have you ever tested the curry from Brinjal specially Baigan Ka Varta if not try this time.Yes I can describe as Baigan means (Bai+gun) means no meaning. Means no vitamins and It can be mix with all the vegetable in the world.

wow..its so heartening to see your own plants…once I had a full fledged kitchen garden…I an totally against BT brinjal or anything else which is genetically modified, secondly we shouldnt do anything which makes our farmers deoendent ont these firms.

Hi subu, YES! Very true… I grow different kind of plants throughout the year on a rotation basis. Well, depending on government enforcement for all such simple things is a bad idea. We can do lot of things on our own. Like having a Solar Water heater, rain water harvesting systems etc., That is the need of the hour. In my view all these should come from within than by law.

I am not in favor of BT unless there is sufficient amount of research that answers all the doubts raised by farmers. We need not hurry in introducing BT Brinjals in India, I appreciate the decision taken by Jairam Ramesh on this issue.

Well, i used to be a farmville addict sometime back… glad I have come out of it now! Yes, I knew the farmville harvest times for various crops, see my earlier post if you are still into it. It has lot of tips on making the best of farmville in short time.
