Teacher’s day is very special for me because of many reasons. For that matter it is a special day for lot of Indians just like me. I just can’t imagine what my life would have been without those wonderful teachers. My memory still recalls the day when I passed my 7th standard examinations. It was the day which gave a turning point to my life. Mrs Ivy D’souza was my class teacher for 7 long years from class 1 to class 7 at Sri Kumaraswami Vidya Mandir near Hanumantha Nagar, a symbolic locality of old Bangalore. I was admitted to this school with my medium of instruction being ‘Kannada’. It means all the subjects were taught in Kannada language! If this teacher had not suggested my parents to put me into English medium of instruction for high school education (class 8 to 10), no idea what I would have been! The following prayer is still in my mind which praises ‘Guru’, the teacher.
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरूर्विष्णु गुरुर्देवो महेश्वर:
गुरुर्साक्षात् परब्रह्मा तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः
I am pretty sure, Mrs D’Souza observed me very closely for 7 long years in my primary schooling. She knew what I was good at and she ensured to inculcate a number of characters into me at appropriate situations. She is the one who bought out debating nature in me, encouraged to come out with different ways of looking at a given situation and the most important one being open minded! I am thankful to her again for alleviating the stage fear in me. Yes, there have been a number of instances where in I have anchored many programs in front of huge audience during my college days as well as in corporate world :). Not to mention, some of these must have come by joining NCC (National Cadet Corps) in college days. In a way, I have been lucky enough to have some great teachers in my High School as well as in rest of my educational days. If I start naming each of them, this post will never end. I will revisit their contributions to my life as and when time permits.
On this special day, I would like to thank all those who taught me irrespective of how minuscule ever the lesson be. Life is so colorful at my end now, because of all your contributions. I take this opportunity once again to remember all of you who touched my life and to say that I am here being myself today because of YOU!

A complete tribute to all the teachers who had come across through one’s life & influenced in one way or the other is near to impossible. So remembering them, each one of them, for the things they taught you and the time they spent for you, is more important.
A nicely written tribute, Happy Teachers Day!!

While in school/college, we often take teachers for granted.. Little do we realize how much of an impact they have on our lives in the long run.
Liked your post.

I still feel sorry for many of my teachers for giving them so much of trouble. When I spoke to some of them about it few years after leaving the school/college, they don’t keep that in mind at all. That is the greatness of most of them.
Your words are very true… their contribution indeed looks so great when we retrospect.
