Should the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh be broken to pave way for separate Telangana, Costal Andhra and Rayalaseema? This is a much discussed topic in media since a month or so. Currently, most of the so called ‘Elected Leaders’ throughout the state are busy submitting their resignations to respective constitutional institution starting from grass root levels of Village Panchayats to National Parliament. These leaders are now united by ‘region’ irrespective of the political party they belong to. Because of this ‘Go’ and ‘No Go’ separatism movements, Hyderabad city has come to stand still. Not just the capital city, but commuting in remote towns too has become a nightmare. I usually stay away from writing politics related stuff. Since the issue has become so complex and sensitive, let me put forward my thoughts on this whole saga of ‘separatism’.
‘Regional Backwardness’ is the main reason for demanding the state of Telangana as per the predominant leaders behind this separation movement. Let me put across the same thing in a different way. All these political leaders have been part of the governance system, represented their constituency in Assembly/Parliament all these years. Were they all sleeping till now? or is the ‘Busyness’ of looting the public money to make fortune for the upcoming generations of their family? What can’t these leaders bring up the issues related to their constituency, discuss those in right forum and find a favorable and progressive solution to make a better living for citizens? Oh yeah, solving issues will not help them to be in the limelight of media. Also, it could be due to that rational of solving all the issues right away might leave no room for problems when the elections arise next time! I know what the next question would be. Not everyone is a part of the ruling coalition to get the work done! Yes, being an elected representative is more than enough to raise an issue and bring it to the notice of right people in bureaucracy and fight on it until it is solved.
Now answer this question of mine – who is responsible for backwardness of a particular region? It is shame on each of these agitating leaders for doing nothing all this while towards the core issues. In my view, it is even more dumb move by assuming that all the issues will be solved by having a separate state. Just to show off the political presence, one dumb moron goes on pseudo-fasting and things get into a turmoil from there on. Why was such a stance not taken for decades now to solve the people’s problems? Can these leaders come to public with data on how many issues they have raised in assembly or parliament over all these years? Being there during the sessions itself is not possible for many of these lazy bums and raising questions on top is too much of an ask. All of a sudden why provocative talks to ignite the hate among fellow linguistics? It is all nothing but a political stunt to realize/enjoy the power hunger. I request all those followers and the students from various universities across the state for becoming not scapegoats in this political game.
Let me quote a short story that we all read in our primary school days. There was an old man who was keen on teaching his grand kids something new everyday. So, one day he bought a mop having 10 sticks tied with a strong thread. He called each of the kid to break the sticks in the mop as a whole without removing or loosening the thread. Though the kids tried their best, they didn’t succeed in breaking the sticks. Since everyone failed, the old man arranged those 10 sticks in 2 mops of 5 sticks each, again tied with a thread. Now some of the strong kids were able to get to breaking point of the relatively smaller mop compared to the previous one, still couldn’t succeed completely. After repeated failure attempts to break the mop, the old man now asked kids to remove the tread and take out one stick at a time and break all of them. All the sticks were broken with ease by kids. After this event, the man described the power of unity and the weakness of being separated.
I fail to understand why people (including students) have forgotten that moral from the story and simply following the selfish leaders. Come on folks, we have seen it being proven historically as well when Britishers were ruling our India before independence. Think sensible and act per your conscience, don’t follow these morons who bear no responsibility for what so ever. All they need is the power at the cost of fooling us. Don’t you think it is easy to raise voice in parliament to get the things done when we have large number of members representing our territory? What have we learned from inter-state disputes related to water and other natural resources even in recent times?
All these leaders have now taken ‘resignation’ as a mean to lobby the central government to act in their favor. Those who have submitted their resignations without solving the issues have no right to come back to you. It just shows that they are clueless and they haven’t understood the power of electoral system. If they can’t find solutions through a dialogue, they can never be your leaders. I am not bothered about the outcome of this whole saga.. but my heart goes out to all those who aren’t thinking in detail and simply following the leaders and causing panic for fellow citizens to make a peaceful living. At least I have gone clueless to understand why it is so difficult to come together, discuss the pros/cons and arrive at a peaceful solution amicable to all. Whether they break the state or keep it united, one thing is true – You find only such useless leaders as long as the voter god doesn’t realize the ground zero realities and make a conscious effort to elect a ‘Leader’ and not the selfish ‘Coward’. Shame on those cowards who have resigned in such turbulent times and making provocative statements on media to achieve selfish motives.

Sita I cannot answer that question in brief because for that you should know atleast some history on telangana which our AP govt history textbooks never really covered even a bit.
You can scroll up to see some of comments on this post to know my concerns.
As well to know more I really suggest you to follow this blog-

You will also see how the intentions of the author and the comments have metamorphosed since last 2 years. I make several comments and answer many andhra questions in my own comments there.
and wht u expect that………..
to be a good state in world
Look, we are not asking for a separate state just because we are certain that it would be a good state in the world. We have seen a lot of broken promises and lost opportunities as well as exploitation and unfair bureacracy during the past 53 years. We are asking for a state to empower its people and bring awareness about soci- political responisibility to its most downtrodden people. We have lost our hopes to do so in a united AP and we really have been positive to some extent that Merger was one of the major reasons behind that incapability.
It is about decentralization of state power and bringing masses political conciousness.

Sorry that you think it that way. But telangana movement is as old as AP history. If you do not know the history I cannot help it.
Then why would DR. YSR suddenly had to implement GO 610 in 2007?
Can you answer that?

Thanks that you think that way.
But that would have been better if andhra people understood better before they regardlessly started foolish samaikhyandra movement against telangana people.

Sad that you think telangana peoples cry against marginalization and discrimination is to be shamed.
Rather I would say the greedy samaikhyandra slogan is shameful.(What the hell is meant by samaikhyandhra when no one from telangana is in support of it? It is the biggest joke of the century.
Jeev says
Ok, I will tell you what the hell is Telangana movement. Until you ignited the regional ‘ego’ feeling, telangana is just a bunch of guys. And same is the case since AP formed. When you cannot fight bureaucracy, but can get a state you did not do that, may be one or two decades ago. Your ‘leader’ is busy lobbying for his own self image improving. When you can fight bureaucracy, not necessarily need a state, you are fighting for a state. This is the real joke of the century, ridiculous movement in history of democracy. And you are so blinded that, all the politicians of all the parties now formed as JAC (political), are formed just because they feared that Telangana would be formed, and they have to do their exercise to secure their place. If it is not a political movement, but a people’s movement, throw all the politicians, make statement openly that parties will be formed after Telangana only. You are so adamant to understand that common people in three regions of the state are equally affected. And You/andhra side are still subjecting the same common people with your vested political interests. Intellectuals from telangana should openly debate with the same kind of people in other regions for the validity of their arguments and produce the same to the State (or judiciary or any bench) and can leave the people alone. Telangana people are not wanting state, you made them to want by showing Andhra ‘boochi’.
Suppose telangana formed, why would greater hyderabad’s income be spent on other parts of telangana? greater hyderabad doesnt have irrigation or any of that kind, but still have share in AP waters. All the criteria you have taken up for telangana doesnt apply to greater hyderabad (its more of a cosmopolitan nature, any region cannot own it as their, though it may be geographically belong to telangana region) What if Greater Hyderabad fight for a separate state, would you support? or not?. Even before telangana formed, you would have to take plebiscite in greater hyderabad about their rights/concerns. What is your answer for this.
In all the cases no people from any region are going to get benefited or lost anything with telangana. Andhra or Rayalaseema will not become poor. We only have to void the blunders in our country. We already suffer a lot. it only serves and help perpetuate divisions and mis-understandings and hurt-sentiments. You have already projected Andhra people as villains. And injected hatred towards them. Your leader or you , will go and protect them one by one ? if they are humiliated? and their properties damaged? and hurt their sentiments? you cannot. So drop some comments like you would protect people in hyderabad or other parts. Telangana consumed most of AP’s ground waters and electricity. Find a political solutions. Let people live their normal lives, and try to improve them. If you find there is a need to fight for such, everybody will join at any part of the AP.

Venkat,
On the contrary to what you feel, there has been a lot of discussion on the case of telangana and its legitimacy. You safely ignore it somehow. This post it self cite some of it and the comments do the rest.
About Presidency rule and people’s opinion, have ever heard something called democracy?
Most telanganites feel suppressed in present AP and do want a separate state.
The political mess is all because of the andhras who form the majority in the state and as well as the power base who are staunchly against division just because of the vested interests of few people.
Don’t you want telangana to prosper?
Venkat says
I think everyone talking about whether to have united Andhra or separate telangana. It would really be better anyone campaigning for either to explain the pros and cons of their case. I didn’t see anybody doing that.
And another unfortunate thing is Indian government headed by Dr. Manhoman Singh is not looking at national interests and interests of those people living in AP. They are either bowing to the political pressure and/or trying to exploit the situation for political benefits. Even splitting of Andhra should not be by history as to how the states were merged several decades ago or by short term vision but by what it adds to people of entire AP in future for generations to come.
The last thing I would mention is neither Manmohan Singh nor Rosaiah who is responsible to look after the interests of Nation and State are not the real decision makers, even though they may be good at heart . It really is unfortunate to have this leadership at this juncture in Indian and AP. If they think that they are not able to make a decision they should probably resign.
I personally prefer to enforce presidents rule in AP and jail all politicians and student leaders for making this mess or whoever continue to make this mess and close few colleges for time being. This should not be decided by few hundred politicians and few thousand students rather by people of AP and keeping in mind the interests of the nation.

Some are talking about empowerment for Telangana people by getting a separate state. Then why not empowerment for people of each district & Hyderabad by making each of them separate state.
Empowerment comes by education and knowledge and not by division. I am afraid that by separating Telangana would go the Jharkand way & fall in to Naxals / Maoists hands.
May god bless Telangana people to chose what is really good for them.
I speak Telugu, lived in Delhi / Nizamabad /warangal / vijayawada and now for over 40 years living out side AP.
Any questions
sravan says
Mr. Krishna rao,
Maoists are more concentrated and base in nallamalla forests in andhra region. So it is andhra region that is going to fall in hands of maoists if separate states form.
You do not understand the anguish of telangana poor. That is why you simply dejecting the separation issue as mere political issue.
Do you know for decades telangana people were exempted from their right share of jobs that went into a viscious cycle.
For example in 1969 only 4% of TNGO in telangana were locals. And the remaining were from andhra. These very migrants later became established as locals and retained the telangana jobs for them. Their children naturally became telanganites and subsequently took most of the jobs. Now they are well-off and pose as telanganites.
But in reality if the initial discrepancies were nullified all of these would have become non-locals and the children of the actual local population would have nurtured the fruits of development.
sravan says
Krishna Rao garu,
Girglani commision’s report submitted in 2006 clearly shows how for decades the of telangana non-gazetted posts were bureucratically given to andhra people.
That is only one example to clarify the reason for underdevelopment in telangana.
krishna rao says
Sravan garu,
I wish not to argue about your information.
What I am anguished is that a GOOD FAMILY is getting divided because of some dishonest persons.[ politicians / Officials.]
Best wishes
Praveen says
In 1960’s the literacy rate in Telangana is very very low and to fill the government vaccencies in telangana the government had to search persons from other regions as due to unavailable of minimum qualified persons from telangana.. For instance when 1000’s schools were established in telangana after AP was formed the government didn’t find enough persons in telangana for teaching. The leaders from telangana took bribes from non-local people and given them NOC/local residency certificates making them to apply for jobs
sravan says
Krishna Rao Garu,
I can feel your sentiments but it is always good to honor others rights too.
I will try to make it clear the actual picture of Water Crisis today AP is undergoing. This is the main reason why we are seein such a vertical divide in our state.
It was a terrible historic bluder by the state govt. to overzealosly build the Nagarjuna Sagar RBC and LBC to cater mainly Krishna and Guntur Districts. Actual plan for N sagar canal system was completely diverged during the construction.
Today AP is utilizing its full share of 800 TMC of Krishna Water of which 70% are used in these two districts. Now Karnataka is bulding new projects like Upper Tunga and Upper Krishna to utilize its own share. However being on the downstream AP has the right to utilize the extra waters. However CWC completely forbids building any new permanent projects to utilize these extra waters. 15 TMC of these waters were allocated to Chennai for drinking supply but AP did a mistake by converting the Right Branch canal(telugu ganga) into and irrigation project.
Now we face a big problem to get approval for Srisailam LBC because we are forbidden to build any more new permanent projects.
However it is important to note that SLBC(LBT) would have been approved initailly before any length increases in RBC of sagar were completed.
That is the reason why today govt is favoring a lift irrigation project instead of LBT. If at all Nalgonda is to be suplied drinking and irrigation water then AP has to forgo the irrigation capacity of Sagar RBC which is highly impossible given the bureaucratic power exercised by Krishna and Guntur districts.
However the lift irrigation is expensive and is not a permanent strategy. It would unneccessarily put intense strain on our Power generating Capacity.
Therefore Polavaram project at enormous cost was planned to replenish the losses of Krishna Delta if at all the CWC decision goes in favor of Karnataka which is highly likely to happen.
On the other side Maharashtra had been complaining about the wastage of 1700 TMC of godavari water by AP and the Supreme court supported Mahrashtra’s new projects because of this. Polavaram project would actually help AP in clearing this out too.
Due to all this the ultimate loser would be telangana because it will not get a permanent project for Nalgonda drinking and irrigation needs.
If Polavaram is completed then it is highly unlikely that any water in godavari would be fairly used in telangana.
But if separate telangana forms by virtue of its water rights it will be able to construct permanent projects in its region and might even make the polavaram project a failure because Godavari Delta would not loose its water to replenish Krishna delta.
This could be only avoided if no permanent projects are built in telangana and this is possible only in United AP.
sravan says
Do you really understand what actually political empowerment means?
I suppose you are good to live in China rather than a democratic country?
Check out the facts, Warangal is the one of the most backward districts in the country.
Did I say that “Kostha andhra people want to cheat and take all your resources”?
Well regarding Nizam why did andhra people invite him to represent them in Parliament for 10 years if he was such a pathetic ruler?(I do not expect any answer but this was just a reactionary question.)
Your analysis directly makes the people of telangana as the sole reason for their under-development.
Do you really mean that andhra people were clever enough to develop their regions better than telangana?
Don’t you think there is any devious plan in that?
sravan says
Jeevi,
In british regime it was illegal to say Vandemataram. There was suppression of right to freedom of speech before independence.
So would you consider british as the worst people ever ruled the andhra?
Praveen says
“Warangal is the one of the most backward districts in the country”
LOL 🙂
Jeev says
Which political empowerment are you talking about ? Empowerment of the people today on roads burning properties, killing and dying ?
Or political empowerment of MLA/MPs/Ministers and all that pig clan? that making masti out of all the sh….t KCR started?
Which political empowerment cured our problems?
China, give me a break. China is far and ahead of India in all respects. Whole world fears about china, respects them, want to be them. Don’t you see that? Are you talking about freedom in India? give me another break. Our freedom is only rape, surf porn sites, do all lunatic acts. Not to grow decent, project lives with value and respect. So forget about that thing.
Warangal is backward district.
You did not say, that Kostha andhra people cheated, I didnt even said that you said that.
What a shameful comparison. I hate both nizam and british. It seems that you love the facts that you were brutally treated/murdered/raped. Denied all civil liberties. Are you by the way humiliating your own highly respected ‘Telangana Sayudha Poratam’? Well I will leave it to your own wisdom. I dont know that 10 years nizam thing, I cant comment.
I didnt say Telangana are the reason, so many other reasons, like no opportunities, illiteracy, unfavourable landscapes / resources for cultivation and irrigation may be many others. If you put a hole to godavari or krishna they directly go to the farming fields, since they are low-lands. Is it the case for telangana region? May some elements of greed of people other than Telangana as well as people from Telangana because nothing was in the dark. Did I say Kotha/Rayalaseema people are clever? who said they are developped? Dont you see people struggling for their livelihood in this region, labaour all kinds, underprivilleged of all kinds. Seeing Telangana as a solution blinded you from all other facts and problems. At least this is not the time for Telangana, because you have all means and possibilities to make your dreams come true. To chose this time for Telangana is a mere selfishness of you people eyeing the growth of Hyderabad (which indeed belongs to all). And you never say a Telangana without Hyderabad? out of 4 crores of Telanagan people how many are there in Hyderabad? why dont you care for the rest of them keeping the state in peace, and make ways for a peaceful resolution on Hyderabad issue.
You developed grudge and hatred towards Andhra side people. And that was inflicted by provocative and unparlementary talks by KCR and Harish rao.
Jeev says

How about a state for Dalits?. Or a country ? by pulling them all from all corners of our country. Since they have been the most beaten in every possible way of oppression.
KCR used the most powerful weapon, igniting egos of people belonging to the different regions. I dont know how I would feel if Telangana has to become a separate state 20 years ago. But, certainly this is not the time, for very reason it is not necessary. We have powerful media and right for information. Anything, any act or GO, that Govt. or lobbyists can take up in favor of any region can be questioned, and put forward for the public, and demand genuine-ty of the case. Politician from Telangana region can fight with these new weapons, even they can turn on a movement like the on going on for Telangana, for good of telangana.
Simply Telangana brothers should understand this is a gimmick of political parties playing with the people.
The problems that we can solve would be far lesser than the problems that we would face if Telangana is carved out. More divide in the people, troubles of sharing resources and silly quarrels in utilizing them.
Telangana mana telugu tanaaniki unna inko yaasa. Mana telugu talliki vunna inko alamkaram.
Mana telangana koti ratanaala veena.

Dasarathi Krishamaachaarya, from Telangana region. Wrote ‘Mahandhrodayam’ when state of AP formed.
Blame it on politicians my friends. General public from Kostha Andhra didnt cheat people of Telangana. They migrated to parts of Telangana in seeking their own betterment of their lives, as any other human being would do.
We should bury TDP/Congress/BJP old fashioned parties ruling our country/states. There should emerge new political consciousness, a brand new leadership for our country. To put forward this people to a world class standard.
Politicians. They did not do well. It is not people of three regions.

Praveen says
Well done Jeev..
sravan says
HI Jeev,
The central point in telangana separation is to achieve political empowerment for its people. This is the only possible way to attain that given the majority andhra legislaors in the assembly.
So whether we separate or not we still be bonded by telugu language and ethinicity.
So your argument only supports separate telangana.
You just failed to recognoze that.
Jeev says
Yeah, You are right Sravan, Telangana politicians are relatively poorer than their colleagues in other parts of Andhra Pradesh. We should give them a chance. Is that the central point am I missing? I am only seeing a bunch of dogs waiting on the other side of the wall for the big chunk of meat. For God’s sake do not talk about the people. No political empowerment in AP fed the common man. If at all they feed something, that is a miniscule what they fed to themselves.
North Coastal Andhra is a equally poorer as Telangana’s mahaboobnagar and nijamabad. Telangana’s karimnagar and warangal are as rich as godavari krishna districts of Kostha. Rayalaseema districts are relatively backward. Which political empowerment brought a balance ? after 60 years independence.
Well, suppose there is political empowerment for Telangana. Are the Govt. jobs that make the people’s lives better? Water resources ? how would Telangana get water without any distribution mechanism. So the water you would get would be the same, whether you are together or separate after distribution. Only thing Telangana has to do is get their projects on a fast track, which the political empowerment should actually do. They never seem to care about that. Always Andhra people exploited Telangana people, there wont be any other lame complaint than this, in recent years.
When somebody directs Telangana leaders to the figures and numbers, they say it is ‘Self Respect’ issue. I dont understand what is self respect they mean, because somebody say Telangana dialectic is not good/proper for every day ‘work life’? Well we have to take it up. As a language of general usage, everybody respects that dialectic. I love it. I feel proud and feel warm for its touching expressions. “Anna ende manchigunnava? jara chai tagudam pada” I feel so good about such expressions. But when we go for work, where different kinds of people come close and work, we may have to change. That is how, our invaluable telugu and local languages are put aside for English. At some place, you might require to speak telugu that is in text books. When you demand for your dialectic in movies, why dont you demand it for physics and maths texts? is that possible. Which region doesnt have a dialect in our land. Nellore-prakasam, rayalaseema, north Kostha, godavari districts, and krishna guntur. You will find clear differences. How can we make movies and hero characters for them?
And one more ridiculous thing, that KCR played. He created a Telangana talli. I am not at all disrespecting please understand. Telugu talli belongs to everybody. If we at all have Andhra talli, it makes sense to create Telangana talli. How stupid and ridiculous to create a talli like that, and humiliating Telugu, calling telugu talli a deyyam (devil). Is it telugu? telugu people for KCR’s reasons? for carving such thing.
Nizams were the worst rulers of that region. There was not even a chance to speak Telugu during those days in meetings (read history, then came the Jai andhra (not the one in 70s) movement, just for not being allowed to speak telugu in Govt. meenting). And KCR calls them, ‘ maaa nizam ‘ shameless.
Ok, let us say, Since Hyderabad is a place for all AP people, so much and lives and emotions are weaved around the fact of this city being capital, and this city is a symbol pride and hope for all AP. How can you break it. Well if KCR is a well-wisher of Telangana people, can he just leave Hyderabad alone for remaining AP, take Telangana out? after all it is a collection of 9 districts where actually poor people live? who actually need water and political empowerment.
My whole point my friend is that, let us fix politicians. Politicians who were struggling on the streets for their lively hood once, became richer stinkingly, thousands of crores. Nobody, did anything to the common people of all regions.
What is the problem if Telanga is carved out. There will be sooo many. Egos, emontions, greed and contempt. You cannot imagine. Let us just as we are. And fix the stuff. No Kostha andhra people want to cheat and take all your resources, never. Pick up a right fight, everybody will join you. Right fight is not for another wrong, but for betterment people of all regions, equal distribution of resources. We have so many means to find out the corruption. As the politicians that are closer to those means to provide right details to the people and media, everything get right automatically.

Mohan says
You may not be updated, but the standing committee report on the long pending women reservation Bill was tabled in both Houses of Parliament on Thursday, Dec 17 ’09. Well, your argument is valid too!
Srinivas Muthadi says
All the problems discussed in the blog comments are due to the corruption. So as long as corruption is flourishing, carving out 100s of states is also not going to solve the problem.
Problems are there in all the regions.
All the consecutive governments have taken up developmental works. We have not seen the fruits because of corruption at all places and times in our society. What finally trickles down to real work is only a fraction of what is actually is spent by the Govt.
Yeah, there has been demand for separate Telangana for decades mainly because of excess people from other regions in Telangana in key positions in various Govt. departments and the Secretariat ( where all the files for crucial decisions move). All the recommendations, agreements, GO’s etc., to address this have been successfully trashed by successive regimes for decades.
Though violence is bad, it only new phenomenon in the agitation for Telangana.
The blog has been written with a perspective to protect the interest of just the established business people. There is no social perspective.
Mohan says
Srinivas, thanks for your views. I fail to understand what makes you think that this post has been written to protect the established business people. It is not proper to say that few things, people have been trashed. As long as the leaders aren’t selfish, I don’t see any reason why one would keep silent when something wrong is happening to the people who elected them to power. Can you tell me a dept or a region in our India where corruption is not there? It is prevalent everywhere… inspite of that many states have developed really well over the time. At the same time some regions have failed miserably. If it not the failure of leaders, what else do you call it?
I am not biased towards anyone. Read my comments above for various responses to know the context better.

All those who are fighting for a separate state. Please close ur eyes and feel one sec. How will u feel, if Chiranjeevi is suddenly another state hero, legendary NTR becoming another state former-CM. If u get a sick feeling, its what is called Andhra oneness. I was in Hyderabad, Malaysia, US, Bangalore. wherever I have seen, Andhra people have helped each other, and laughed and thought together. The feeling of one Andhra has always been there. How can it be afforded to be divided, based on non-development. Definitely these issues can be resolved between brothers.

In 1969 when there was a telangana struggle it was not even considered for seperation. In 1972 when Andhra wanted to be seperated Telangana never pressed for seperation fearing may be it would be granted. The government having an inkling of an idea of the stuggles for seperation should never have allowed the super growth of Hyderabad .Having allowed the growth it should now not consider breaking the state.

I grew up entirely in Hyderabad. My father is from Guntur and my mother is from Rayalaseema (Kurnool). My wife is from Telangana. So I have relatives from all regions of state – relatives from my father’s side, mother’s side and relatives from marriage. May be I am not such a special case and may be there are many more people like me. It’s really tough for me to say to which region of the state I belong to. I neither want to upset my parents nor my wife & inlaw 🙂
Mohan says
I can understand the kind of pain you and your family must be going through. Very sensitive issues for sure!
Murthy says
Isn’t it a valid question? Why can’t you make your elected representatives repsonsible for performance? What is the gaurantee that in the separate state the same so called corrupt leaders will represent people well and solve the problems of the region?
To me it appears that KCR wants to be CM of Telangana and hence he has been singularly stoking up hatred between people of andhra, telangana and rayalaseema. He is an unemployed and may I say rich politician trying to stay politically relevant by creating this mess. Congress and TDP also want to take credit for splitting Telengana so that they don’t lose the MPs from this region.
Peugot moved their investments to Gujarat, just yesterday. Many more will follow if the politicians of both the state and center so some vision and real leadership and get their act together. Being an NRI who grew up in Hyderabad, I was interested in moving back to Hyderabad, where I grew up, for investment and/or employment in technology sector. I will take my skills and enterprise to a city like Bangalore or someother place, as much as it saddens me. But I don’t want to get caught in the crossfire between these self serving joker politicians who just want to split up a state that I am proud of.
Mohan says
It is not just you Murthy… there are many more people who have started thinking just like you. It is indeed a heart breaking things happening at the moment in Andhra.

For Info: (got from net but must read)
1.) There are 10 districts in Telangana, 9 in Andhra and 4 in Rayalaseema. Out of these 7 districts in Telangana, 3 in Andhra and 1 in Rayalaseema are considered severely backward districts which means 70% of districts in Telangana are backward while in Andhra it is 35% and in Rayalaseema it is 25%. Apart from these there are some areas in all parts of the state which are also backward.

Ans:
List of districts in Telangana – Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal,Khammam, Medak, Rangareddy,Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Hyderabad. Out of these, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak, Khammam, Hyderabad, Rangareddy cannot be categorized as backward districts.
List of districts in Rayalaseema – Kurnool, Kadapa, Ananthapur, Chittoor. Of these Ananthapur, Kadapa and some parts of Chittoor are backward, with Ananthapur being the worst-hit district of whole AP.
List of districts in Coastal Andhra – Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram, Srikakulam. Of these, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam (other than Vizag City), Prakasam, Western parts of Krishna, Guntur (Palnadu area), Godavari (Manyam area) districts are considered backward (compared to the non-backward areas of Telangana).
Clearly, the above statement is more of a prejudiced opinion than a fact.
2)
45% of the state income comes from Telangana region. When it comes to utilization of funds, the share of Telangana is only 28%.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
As was pointed out by some members here, the income from hyderabad and rangareddy districts forms a major share of this income. This income
mostly comes from the sectors of Real Estate, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and IT industries. Not to instigate any regional feelings here, but it is worth noting that many of these companies (excluding IT sector to some extent) are owned by non-Telanganites.
3)
Normally canals are dug to supply water to the crops from rivers for cultivation. The amount of land cultivated through canals in just Guntur district is more than the land cultivated with canals in entire Telangana region.

Not true. Guntur district irrigated area is 6,78,197 acres (http://irrigation.cgg.gov.in/dp/GunturDistrictProfile.jsp). Karimnagar district irrigated area is 6,47,402 acres (http://irrigation.cgg.gov.in/dp/KarimnagarDistrictProfile.jsp. Note that 1 Hectare = 2.471 acres).
4)
Nagarjuna sagar dam is built in Nalgonda district which is in Telangana but majority of the water from the dam is used for Krishna and Guntur district. The original dam was supposed to be build much ahead of its present location but the location was changed so that it falls in the
Telangana region. Due to the construction of the dam several hectares of Lime stone mines vanished as part of the dam back waters. Everyone know that lime stone is used for producing cement. Even the natural resources were not allowed to remain.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
A bit of a history here – Nagarjuna Sagarproject was originally conceived by the British, around 1903, with Siddeswaram and Pulichintala as possible balancing reservoir sites. Unfortunately, these proposals did not materialize. Floods in Krishna river used to devastate Krishna district, while Guntur and Nalgonda were drought prone. As part of the first five-year plan, Nehru Govt. appointed Khosla committee to examine and report on the optimum and most beneficial utilization of Krishna River waters. The recommendations of the Committee, which were later endorsed by the Planning Commission in December, 1952, are to construct Nandikonda Dam across Krishna River with full reservoir level at +590.00 feet with canals taking off on either side. Water allocated to the Project is 281 TMC. The foundation stone of the Dam was laid by the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India on 10.12.1955. (It is worth noting here that Andhra Pradesh state was formed in 1956, after the dam foundation was laid. It is outrageous to spread the idea that there’s a conspiracy by the Andhrites in shifting the location of the site, when the state itself was not in existence.)
Another piece of interesting information on the background of Nagarjuna Sagar – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raja_of_Muktyala#Achievements.
“Raja spent fifty two lakhs of rupees (in 1950s) as a matching grant for the project construction”. What is the investment of Telangana in this project, while reaping the benefits of the project and yet promoting the idea that injustice was done ?
Regarding Limestone quarries, there are enough limestone reserves to support a host of cement industries. For more info – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaggaiahpet#Economy.
Statements that non-telangana regions conspired against Telangana people are false theories spread by people with vested interests.

This is not a problem specific to Nalgonda district and the statement that no efforts have been made to resolve this issue is not true. This problem existed in many other districts as well (Adilabad, Anantpur, Chittoor, Guntur, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Krishna, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nellore, Prakasam, Ranga Reddy, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Warangal, West Godavari). The state has initiated (RWS) schemes to resolve this problem. While the majority of drinking water works for Ananthapur district was sponsored by the Satyasai Organization http://www.srisathyasai.org.in/Pages/Service_Projects/Anantapur.htm), the state has sponsored the schemes in Telangana districts. Anyone could see the injustice being done to Rayalaseema here, in favor of Telangana. Yet, the hate speeches organized by Telangana theorists twist this “fact”.
Another piece of info that I know firsthand here – The RWS scheme was first proposed in Nizamabad district by the then Chief Engineer Mr U.Kutumba Rao (incidentally, he’s from the Andhra Region’s Krishna district) and he made sure that the funds were released by the then TDP govt (thanks to Late Sri Karanam Ramachandra Rao, Minister of TDP Govt). No Telangana Politician thought about this for decades together and yet they somehow attribute this problem to Telangana discrimination !!!

Two major rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra enter the state of AP in the district of Mahaboobnagar (the biggest district in Telangana) but the district always remains the worst draught hit areas along with Anantapur because there is no project and process with which the water can be utilized. The plans for utilization has been pending for decades.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
To put things in perspective, we need to look at the background of the drought conditions. Agriculture in this district has been primarily done by borewells since long back and indiscriminate increase of this usage, over decades, led to depletion of ground water levels. The contours and the percentage of arable land in this district doesn’t help either (Anantapur fares much worse in that the forest cover is only 5%, whereas Mahabubnagar has a forest cover of 16%). The eastern part is upland/hilly and the majority of the soil is Red Chalka type. This district is mostly a catchment area for the rivers, which means this is not really plain land. Govts over the years have tried to implement various measures such as watershed projects (through Desert Development Programmes, Drought Prone Region Development Programmes etc), Small check dams and drip irrigation schemes. The efforts of the Govts led to an increase in ground water level and rejuvenation of around 31000 borewells.
This is not to say that the Govts have done enough. Much more needs to be done here, which has not been done so far.
Currently, Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Project, Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Project and Rajiv Lift Irrigation Projects are being implemented and upon their completion, this district will hopefully be no more categorized as drought-prone.
7)
In Telangana regions, only few areas cultivate one crop a year and very rarely two crops a year while most of the land doesn’t even cultivate
single crop. In both the Godavari districts, Krishna and Guntur district, two crops a year is common and there are times where even 3 crops a year are cultivated. The only reason is WATER.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
Not all regions of Godavari/Krishna/Guntur cultivated three crops a year. And this is not the reality anymore, particularly for Krishna river basin. The water for second crop itself is not guaranteed anymore (Pulichintala is the solution for this).
8)
33% of the population in Mahaboobnagar district have left the district for livelihood to different parts of the state due to draught and majority of them are working as daily labour. No other district has so many people who fled the home place due to lack of livelihood and working as daily labour.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
This is not a problem unique to Mahabubnagar. Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts have the same problem. The problem in Mahabubnagar district is conveniently projected as a Telangana issue.
9)
Dairy development corporation of AP purchases milk from farmers across the state for distribution. For the same milk, in Andhra, the government pay Rs. 24 to the farmers and in Telangana they pay Rs. 22 per litre. Partiality is shown even in milk
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
Milk procurement price is dependent on various quality parameters, one of them being the fat content. For eg., Mahabubnagar district in the 90s produced milk with low fat content (reasons ranged from feeding practices and quality cattle, to diluting milk with water). The then Govt installed Technical Assistance Services to implement bank credits for procuring quality cattle, cattle insurance, cattle vaccinations, Milk testing centers etc. This led to increase in Milk production, Fat content (from 6% to 7.3%) and an increase of profits for Milk producers (in Wanaparthy segment alone, there was an increase of 40laks in profit, in 3 years). The point to be noted here is that there’s no discrimination done here, as projected by the statement above.
In fact, the AP dairy federation’s Milk Procurement Price ranges from Rs.25.50 to Rs. 28.00/Ltr for Buffalo milk and Rs. 11.91 to Rs. 12.53/Ltr for Cow milk.
10)
In between 2005-2008 government sold lands worth Rs. 20000 crores in and around Hyderabad which was utilized to build projects in Rayalaseema and Andhra.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
Properties were sold not just in Hyderabad. This happened in Vijayawada and Vizag as well to some extent. The figure of 20000 crores itself is highly debatable. Added to that, the Govt has spent (and has been spending) on the following Telangana projects –
1. Alisagar Lift Irrigation Project
2. J. Chokka Rao Project (Phase I and II)
3. Gutpa Lift Irrigation Project
4. Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project
5. Sriram Sagar Project (Phase I and II) and the flood canal
6. Bhima Lift Irrigation project
7. Sripada Rao Lift Irrigation project
8. Dummugudem project
9. Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation Project
10. Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Project
11. Lendi Project
12. Suddavagu, Peddavagu, Palemvagu, Gollavagu, Ralivagu, Mathadivagu, Modikuntavagu and Gundlavagu projects
13. Komuram Bheem Project
14. Koilsagar Lift Irrigation Scheme
15. Kinnerasani Project
16. Ichampally Project (Govt has been trying to resolve longstanding interstate issues and is trying to get national project status for this. It is worth noting that no Telangana leader/intellectual has tried to get these issues
resolved or lobbied for the national status and yet non-telangana regions are somehow blamed for non-implementation of this project.)
It should also be noted that many of these projects are lift-based. This is due to the topography of the Telangana region (Deccan Plateau). The power ‘consumption’ for operating/maintaining these projects are enormous. For eg. the Nettempadu, Kalwakurty and Devadula projects require 1200MW of power. On the other hand, the Pulichintala project will add 120MW and Polavaram project will add 960 MW of power ‘production’.
11)

2. Alisagar Lift Irrigation Project (benefits 54,000 acres) became operational in November, 2007.
3. A. Madhava Reddy Project(Phase I) (benefits 50,000 acres) became operational in September, 2006.
Compared to this, the following projects became operational in Andhra/Rayalaseema region –
1. Pushkara Lift Irrigation in East Godavari district (mostly to the non-irrigated North and Westerm parts of the district). This project benefits 80,000 acres.
2. Tadipudi Lift Irrigation scheme, mostly for providing drinking water to the water-starved upland mandals of West Godavari district, is partially Operational.
3. Brahmamsagar Project (benefits 50,000 acres) in Cuddapah district
4. Pedderu Reservoir (benefits 13,000 acres) in Visakhapatnam district
5. Jhanjhavati Project (benefits 9000 acres) in Vizianagaram district

3 TMC of water from Gandipet is sufficient to supply drinking water to our city. Every year 1700 TMC of water is wasted and is flown into Bay of Bengal from river Godavari. Starting from Nizambad to Bay of Bengal there is no project allowed to build on Godavari. If it is built leaders in Godavari districts fear that the fertile lands in the area may fall short of water. If the Godavari water is utilized properly, there will be no scarcity for food grains in our state.
________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
Ans:
The statement is contradicting itself. Godavari districts are not using the 1700 tmc water, as the statement says. What would they gain, by blocking projects that utilize this water ? 1700 tmc is equivalent to more than 4 Nagarjunasagar reservoirs ! And 1200 tmc is way above the requirements of telangana region, which means there will still be water left to sea. Why would Godavari districts block when they have no use of this water ?
Also, “no project allowed” implies blaming non-telangana region. Who ‘allows’ the projects ?? If the allegation is that there is politicial interference, then the Telangana MLAs are more in number, compared to Godavari districts. Why didn’t anyone resort to such ‘Aamarana Deeksha’ for getting projects built ? Telangana leaders/intellectuals conveniently cover up the fact that longstanding interstate issues existed between Maharashtra, (the now) Chattisgarh and AP for Ichampally Project. Why haven’t any of these leaders/intellectuals helped the Govt in these issues, if they’re so interested ? They also do not mention that the Sripada Sagar dam is one of the larger capacity dams built on Godavari river for the benefit of Telanagana region, after AP was formed.
Godavari dists are mostly irrigated based on the projects/canals built by the british (other than the new dowleswaram barrage). They couldn’t even get new projects implemented for benefitting the backward western parts (the manyam areas) and they’re being blamed for blocking Telangana projects.

What is the base for your argument. You are making a good case for three separate states here. That is what I think should be done. Moreover telangana region is the most backward region in India. The projects in telangana you have mentioned are just in their beggining. They were planned decades ago. Where as those in Andhr you mentioned were recently planned and look they already passed telangan projects in the area of land they irrigate.
Sheer amount of discrimination. Whereas telangana projects are now stalled since last 2 years(only began before elections and stopped after that ). Those that are running successfully in telangan now only help in divrtingt the waters of godavari to krishna basin. There is nothing special in Hyderabad as such. If Kurnool had been the Capital city it would have been developed the same way as Hyderabad.
Telangana people are Telugu people only but they are under Nizam’s rule and suffered more than their brothers from other parts. Even after independence they were not given basic education by their elected representatives. So their lives were not improved even after independence. Now some selfish elements are blaming the Andhra people for the miseries of Telangana people.
If these selfish elements had fought for equal distribution of wealth and facilities in the beginning itself then this kind of situation would not have arisen. Now these selfish people are raking up the issue with an eye on Hyderabad which has developed very fast in the recent past.
Telangana will not benefit anything with these kind of leaders. There are no good leaders anyway.

Of course it is not but KL Rao and andhr engineer who planned the later canal systems of Sagar corruptively changed the course of the canal. Initially left canal was planned to supply Nalgonda, and warangal districts but was somehow diverted to krishna.
The result is the ayacut of left bank canal that was initially promised to be 21 lakh acres shrinked to present 5 lakh acres. Where as towards andhra region the right bank canal’s length was greatly increased from around 175 km to present 225 km. If you check the development funds provided always RBC gets enormous amounts for its maintainence because of more ayacut it supplies.

Flourosis in Nalgonda gained significance after the buliding of these projects and not before. Where as flourosis is seen pockets of other regions in AP no district is as severely affected as Nalgonda.
IF my house is on fire that does not mean that becomes less significant if someone elses’s just caught fire. Your answer needs some sense.

No state witnessed progress because of the performance of politicians. There are quite few developed states but it is just because of the administrative convenience with the smaller states and most of the despite the politics …..
What is wrong if separate statehood is given to thelangaana when they are coming out with protests time and again by finding out a solution on hyderabad.
It is clear that many politicians from andhra and seema regions have illegal properties in hyderabad which may at stake once thelangana becomes state is the real region…
As KCR said how can you force a girl to confirm to a marriage when she no longer likes it.
If people can garner support from thelangana for united andhra then that can be considered a genuine movement which is not the case?
When ever the separate thelangana issues comes to the fore the so called educated people who just develop bookish knowledge go on scribbling in the blogs asking “when you have so many MLAs and MPs working for people , why can’t you make them responsible and which is the solution for development ”
Hey see politics and corruption are broader issues which are debatable and everyone should fight against the corruption and make the politicians accountable. No question about it.
When the entire country is suffering from the above loophole in the system why do you want only the thelangana people to go the extra mile and wipe out corruption and elect the right politicians to get the development.
Praveen says
Hi Suri,
Many people( most of them) from Hyderabad, border districts of Hyderabad (these are full of Telangana people) like Medak, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy didnt want separate state i.e they had no problem in separating but they does n’t like it and majority of Khammam and border districts to coastal also not towards bifurcation. What here is these people don’t come to streets and shout (they had their work to do and they are not goons, they are common man like u & me).. In Karimnagar & Warangal the Telangana sentiment is some what more ironically these are developed areas.. When United Andhra agitation started some people in Hyderabad want to hold meetings (just peaceful ) in Hyderabad but were threatened by TRS (goons) members, Last week also some in Nalgonda some people went as a procession for United Andhra.. These things were just once come & go in media and were no highlighted (as media want the ransacking in OU for more TRP’s)..
As they said (wrongly) Telangana/Andhra/Rayalseema are not husband/wife to split they are parts of ONE PERSON(ANDHRA PRADESH)., every part is necessary and its own importance/limits., without anyone the whole is handicapped..
Santosh says
I think again centre is trying to delay/postpone the decision as other regions are also making similar demands.
Though the chief minister is there in the chair Governer has almost taken over the control of Law and order situation.
Even the telangana leaders are not interested in rest of Telangana ie other than Hyderabad.
Actually Telengana leaders want to blackmail Centre and get the Hyderabad for Telangana. But the crux of the problem lies in Hyderabad. Unless it is resolved it is not possible to resolve the whole issue.
Telangana leaders should discuss this with the Andhra leaders for a solution for Hyderabad. Unless warring people come to an amicable understanding on Hyderabad even centre has no option but keep silent and maintian status quo.
sravan says
You should wake up man. If ponnala lakshmaiah is Irrigation minister I care a damn.
I will give an example here.
Dummugudem project and Pocham palli projects only shift water from godavari to krishna basin. This is inturn to fill out the deficit that is going to arise from the upper krishna projects that provide water to rayalseema.
Altogether telangana is losing its right share of water?
May be you are brainwashed I think. Not me. Or may be you know this butjusttrying to fool me with numbers. Like andhra politicians have been doing for decades now.
Praveen says
“Like andhra politicians have been doing for decades now”
These stmts will come from brainwash only, Godavari water is shifted to Krishna for better utilization of water, even once there is a proposal of interlinkng all rivers from Ganga to Kaveri only for usage of all people for not for Tamilnadu(kaveri).. As many cusecs of water are going into the sea without any use this divert of water is taken for universal usage..
and If Godavari water flows to Krishna it must pass through telangana., then telangan is not benifitted???
I dont know about these telangana-andhra politics much about upto I came to hyderabad (so I was not brainwashed like you people) and after coming to hyderabad only I saw some of my friends and how brainwashed they are.. (you may see my earlier post no. 46)..
Friend I am not instigating anybody but telling that some persons are misleaded and can you straightly tell me in 3 or 5 points how telangana will be benifitted in a seperate state which it can’t now
sravan says
THe central water system was a old idea which would have done good actually if the resolution ever passed in PArliament(1980’s)
It was planned to connect perennial rivers of Nrthern India(taking origin from glaciers in himalayas) to the rivers in S. India that dry up in summers and drought.
What today Jalayagnam connects is just a cover up.
Let first the N.Indian perennial river connect to the penensular rivers. Then we can think of such connections.
I think you are just being fooled by the ja;aygnam proponents who only want to steal the sahre of telangana waters.
Praveen says
Telangana Waters???? What it means??? Rivers belong to all the areas through which it flows??? and I dont believe in Jalayagnam which is started to procure money??? ‘stealed’ is a word for exaggeration and arrogance!!! and what is Ponnala Lakshmaiah of Telangana is doing upto now if you think those waters are stealed??? upto now why he is calm??? Does he wake up now!!!
You are clever, you are intentionally replying to some things and leaving max of my points 🙂
and I again want to 3 or 5 points how telangana will be benifitted in a seperate state which it can’t now!!! Nxt time take sometime think and give reply., may be I will be convinced with your reply 🙂
sravan says
Bachavath tribunal has awarded river waters to regions and states to utilize based on the cathcment area of the river flow. What I mean by saying telangan water is its share of river water. If you do not know basics I cannot help you. The crux of the issue is this. If you think that telangaa is being developed more then you are forming acase for separate andhra. Andhra isresisting because if states separate telangana will build projects that would utilize its own share of water. Andhra will not be able to stop this by any degree of lobbying or political majority like now.
Praveen says
I again want to 3 or 5 points how telangana will be benifitted in a seperate state which it can’t now!!!
sravan says
1. Telangana will get rid off the andhra bureucracy.
2. Andhra politicians would not be holding any power in telangana and so the telangana resources atleast to certain extent will be utilized by telangana people.
3. Atleast some of the telangana NGO jobs would be filled by actual telanganites.
4. The actual corrupt bureaucratic ways utilized by andhra people to illegaly gain telangana jobs would have greater chance to see the light of the day. How the NGO posts were illegally upgraded to Gazzetted posts will be revealed and those employed illegally would have to go back and their children would not be counted as locals as far as the govt. jobs are filled(There would be thousands of such illegal job holders)
5. The actual telangana share of river waters would be divulged and the states of Maharashtra , Karnataka and Andhra who were until now utilizing telangana waters had to concede.
6. Strenghthening of local economic sectors other than hyderabad would be made easy because the revenues of hyderabad will now be utilized solely in telangana.
There are many more but I think these are only few that are enough to answer your doubts.
Praveen says
The first point is bit seems like jealously seeing other person’s growth
The second point is no person from andhra/rayalseema is an MP/MLA in telangana region. Telangana region is ruled by their own MP’s & MLA’s and state cabinet has its own share of MLA’s from telangana in powerful positions (Home, Irrigation).. Then which outsider is ruling telangana 🙂 If you talk about CM in 50 years of AP around 20 years is ruled by telangana people (it too high when we compare telangana size in AP) but in 60 years of India only 5 to 10 years is ruled by a south indian 🙂 .,
Regarding 3&4 where are jobs in government sector??? In the last 10 years did heard in any state govt organization which created more then a mere 1000 jobs, Jobs are all in Private sector for whom don’t care about where we are from
5- We are releasing 100’s of cusecs of Godavari water into sea due to lack of infrastructure which we are allowed to use. There is still a large amount of cusecs of water left for us to use but our leaders (all in AP) lack will to do that
6- The main unplanned thing our leaders had done is they planned everything around hyderabad. If they want to start an industry/IT/pharmacy company or and education institute like IIT/CU or anything they concentrated on Hyderabad.
Although this is illplanned atleast border districts of hyd in telangana benifitted by this., If got outside no major govt industry is there in andhra/rayalseema (except some like vizag steel plant etc)., everything is centere around hyd only.. by this telangana only benifitted..
Praveen says
In Telangana by 1956 only 17.51 lakhs of agriculture land is there but by 2004 another 27.78 acres of irrigation land is newly developed there by taking the total irrigation land to 45.29 acres
In Coastal Andhra by 1956 17.51 lakhs of agriculture land is there and by 2004 only 28.18 acres of irrigation land is newly developed there by taking the total irrigation land to 69.98 acres
The worst is in Rayalseema where by 1956 9.07 lakhs of agriculture land is there and by 2004 only another 7.16 acres of irrigation land is newly developed there by taking the total irrigation land to 16.23 acres
Telangana is the largest benefited area after state formed., But some educated morons are propagating on internet that the irrigation land has been decreased in telangana after AP formation and the worst is that they printed books stating including this false propaganda in hyderabad and distributed it freely to people..
Had to know still how many false propogandas are there in that book by which the innocent/dumb students got influenced!!!
sravan says
Praveen you should also kno one more fact here.
Telangana’s agriculture land was irrigated mostly by centuries old manmade tanks and reservoirs. The increased land you see is only because of the advancement in technology and nothing to do with gov’s intervention. The tank and reservoir irrigated land has shrinked from 19 lakh acres to 12 lakh acres. Most of the land today is irrigated by borewells and with shrinking water table telangana is going to be a desert in next 20 years.
Where as90% of the irrigation funds go to canal irrigation to subsidize irigation for canal fed agricultural lands in andhra, less tha n10% of funds go to maintain the tanks and reservoirs in telangana. And after 1990 most of these are being occupied by andhra realtors and sold as plots.
No one in andhra knew this because they think telangana land was barren for ages.
Actually telanganas agricultural production was always better than andhra until late 19th century when cotton barrage and krishna barrage were built. These very people who were enjoyed the food produced in telangana for centuries did not even think of suppying telangana during the early 20th century famine(in bidar, gulbargaa and nanded divisions) They rather sold it to the middlemen.
Praveen says
Its proven that with statistical figures that the GROWTH in irrigation land is more in telangana then other regions..
The false allegations you said are brainwashed to you by many persons..(called as professors), Many are there only for argue but no one can (including u & me) cant prove them either right or wrong as we dont have accurate data.. I had seen many figures on internet which are some 40 years old, In one forum I saw somebody show the Literacy rates of 1970’s and arguing that telangana was ignored.,
Wake up Man..
Ponnala Lakshmaih is the Minister for Large Irrigation Project from 6 years(last term & this term), what did he done.. we had to ask him as he knows better about telangana problems., KCR is a central cabinet minister for 3 years.. Did he done anything for telangana??? Did anybody listen anytime that he raised questions about telangana region in parliament.. I am not blaming anyone but just want to tell ask you to start thinking.. Did anyone of those leaders/professors told any roadmap / plan that how they are going to eradicate the problems with new state which they cant do now?
Praveen says
This too got from net, but a must to know info:
1)Andhra- means telugu literally, andhra pradesh means, land of telugu .
((so its baseless, to even argue with the section of telugu people who do not even know the roots and changing the word Andhra to telangana where and when ever they like..thinking that Andhra relates to coastal or rayalaseema) )
2)entire telugu land despite having many kingdoms historically ,were together during 3 great empires, satavahans, kakatiyas and the vijayanagara dynasty, the golden period.
3) it is due to the malicious intentions of alien rulers -mughals,nizams and british -the telugu land is divided in to 3 regions-telangana, northern circars or coastal and the rayalaseema.
how many people from telangana know the basest of basic facts that it is the nizam( s ) who is ( are ) the real culprits .
Friends brush up on these below facts:
during the 6 treaties nizam signed with the british
1) in 1766 1st treaty nizam gave away the northern circars to british,in return for payment of 90,000 pounds annually by the british to the nizam or british assistance to nizam when needed ( either 1 option annually).
2)in 1768- 2nd treaty- as nizam succumbed to british , had to forge a gesture of friendship ,british payed an annual allowance of 50,000 pounds.
3)in 1788 nizam gave up guntur district to british in return for an annual tribute of rs 7 lakhs.
4) in 1798, nizam signed the subsidiary alliance treaty with british.
5) in 1800, nizam ceded the 4 districts of then kadapa, ananthapur, kurnool, bellary,in return fot the payment for the maintainanace of the subsidiary force in hyderabad.
thus by 1802 coastal andhra and rayalasemma came under the rule of british , where as the telangana region remained with nizam.
6)in 1803 nizam signed another treaty with british, by which the forces of hyderabad, were placed at the disposal of british for any kind of emergency.
this is the brief glimpse of how telugu land was divided.friends i recommend all of you to read this section of history.
so my co-patriots from telangana region, i would argue, thus, nizam developed hyderabad and telangana region and protected his interests, by selling the regions of coastal andhra and rayalaseema to british for an annual fee.
so if you claim hyderbad was an already developed city for 3 to 4 hundered years, where did most of that kind of money for its development come from , in those days…………………by selling our regions , so who is exploited by whom…….
Nizam infact by selling the coastal region and rayalaseema to british , sold entire India to british in a way ,cause, british got a strong hold in India thanks to Nizam.
so indirectly who contributed to hyderabad’s development pre-independence……..
Prior to independece, great leaders from all the 3 regions together participated, motivated people from telangana region to revolt against nizam , famously called-telangana saayudha poratam, -it was not for thr formation of seperate telangana, it was a revolt against the atrocities of the nizam.
Along with the leaders from telangana , great men like chandra rajeswara rao, puchhalapalli sundariah participated to name a few……..do you know from where they are…….did they think why to bother about telugu people in telanagana…..
do you know why telanagana was socially backward mark my words socially backward not economically post independence…………solely due to dora pettanam…..instituted by nizam for his selfish needs, these doras, practised vetti chakiri-bonded slavery, to name a few reddy doras, velama doras, police patels etc etc, high caste telagana people exploiting the backwardness of the downtrodden ,but economically telangana was always viable, except, the money was loaded amongst the dora’s after nizam.
so why blame other regions for your own faults.
for every evil deed forced on innocents , god will give a boon to the innocents.
nizam was evil, he sold the coastal and rayalaseema to british, for his selfish needs.but it turned out a boon to those regions, because british built dams on krishna and godavari ,english education system was started , people got educated, etc etc………..
so my co-patriots from telangana region, to let you know, the people from coastal or rayalaseema, did not become rich or educated by exploiting telangana from decades and decades, as you’ll are proclaimimg.

After forming the state Hyd got the above, only as it is capital of United Andhra Pradesh but not it is in telangana
Nithya Subramanian says
The present scenario is that India is getting bifurcated into several smaller states. After the Congress party nodded positive for a separate state for Telegana, several other states have started trying their chances to get their part of theirs to get bifurcated. Recession is getting picked up slowly just now. Prices have gone up for all necessities of every human. Stocks are getting toggled every minute in a day. Only if the stock market picks up, they (people) will be able to take care of all their necessities. If this is the situation that is going to be prevailed, there will be an possibility of increase in population and pollution in all forms which has to be controlled. According to me, people have to start thinking wisely and stop protesting by creating chaos amongst the people and the government. So, my question would be, Will the centre or the state government or India would be able to tackle the necessities of people of all kinds (including the farmers, and people below the poverty line)?
sravan says
NItya,
Are you supporting creation of New states. if yes I think your analysis would be logical. But if you are against it then,
I do not understand how you came to this conclusion? Can you elaborate on that?
formation of new states——> increase in population
formation of new state——–> increase in pollution
Are we not facing these problems now?
Well if you are saying the problems will increase, you still need to explain your derivations.
Will the centre or the state government or India would be able to tackle the necessities of people of all kinds (including the farmers, and people below the poverty line)?
Don’t you think you are supporting formation of new states here?
sravan says
1)Andhra- means telugu literally, andhra pradesh means, land of telugu .
((so its baseless, to even argue with the section of telugu people who do not even know the roots and changing the word Andhra to telangana where and when ever they like..thinking that Andhra relates to coastal or rayalaseema) )
This is irrelevant because telangana case is not based on just the subtle differences in language or culture but on the decades long disregard for development, inappropriate distribution of resources(major water and electricity production), political bullying among several others
entire telugu land despite having many kingdoms historically ,were together during 3 great empires, satavahans, kakatiyas and the vijayanagara dynasty, the golden period.
I think these ancient times do not need any mentioning here and what we read in history is only a part of a false propaganada. Why don’t we read the agrarian rebellion against Nizam and the feudal lords before merger?
3) it is due to the malicious intentions of alien rulers -mughals,nizams and british -the telugu land is divided in to 3 regions-telangana, northern circars or coastal and the rayalaseema.
Is this thing any relevant to present gross differences we see today between the regions?
how many people from telangana know the basest of basic facts that it is the nizam( s ) who is ( are ) the real culprits .
Telangana people do not have any warm feelings for Last Nizam.
I think telangana people know much better than the andhra people. Who would forget the suffering under the autocratic last Nizam’s supressive reign? If at all anybody knew it is telangana people.
And here is the fact of the recent history may be andhra people do not want to learn in future.
Last Nizam was safely homed in Andhra region after his fall and andhra people I think consider him as Noble(Infact they have atleast taken up the traits of their British rulers)
Nizam went on to represent two andhra constituencies in Parliament until his death in 1967.
How do you think we will forget that?
where as last nizam though autocrat was able to foresee the industrial development in the developed nations. He established several industries in telangana based on the needs of the regionsa ns not just in hyderabad
EX:
Cotton was much grown in then warangal division(includes khammam and waranga) – Azam Jahi textile mills in warangal (closed in late 1970’s). No large industry exists now in warangal.
Sugarcane was major crop in Nizambad, berar and nanded areas-
Nizam sugar factory in Nizambad dist.
Adilabad and godavari flow regionshad thick jungles
– Kagaz nagar Paper factoy in Adilabad
Several other industries in Hyderabad like Praga tools, DMR mills etc
And hyderabad had its own airways called deccan airways which ran flights to mideast and london. Today only hyderabad in telangana has airport and
andhra has three airports running and more in development.
Prior to independece, great leaders from all the 3 regions together participated, motivated people from telangana region to revolt against nizam , famously called-telangana saayudha poratam, -it was not for thr formation of seperate telangana, it was a revolt against the atrocities of the nizam.
Glad you mention that. But do you know that Indian govt. did not intervene until after 1 year of the struggle. very few people from andhra participated directly in the struggle. They were actually in fight with Madras presidency over the separation of andhra from it.
Communists in general took the advantage in andhra only to support communists in telangana(although communists were popular in certain andhra regions, overall congress was more popular whereas in telangana communists were majority)
Do you know the history of brutal persecution of communists by national congress in telangana after 1950?
Do you know how the agrarian win over the feudal lords was anulled by the Indian gov by giving back their seied lands?
Not until NG Ranga took action peacefully that mmost of the land was again erdistributed among the serfdom but mostly in nalgonda and khammam. Where as andhra agriculturists took this as advantage to usurp fertile lands Nalgonda.
You should know more history my friend before you attempt to support your self.
nizam was evil, he sold the coastal and rayalaseema to british,
This happened in 1853 and there was no concept of Indian Union back then.
Do not interpret things with out looking into the situations and conditions that were prevailing during that time. Your points are centuries old simple facts.
But present facts are very recent jsut few decades ago. And moreoverr telangana is not asking for a separate nation. It is only a state, a state with in the republic of India. Just like any other state.
Memorize this so that you wll never forget.
Praveen says
“It is only a state, a state with in the republic of India???”
Do you know the problems of separate state? If AP is bifurcated to do trade we must follow more beauricritic rules.. TO just transfer one ton of goods we had to fill a lot of forms/and get a lot of NOC’s/clearences which will further increase corruption (it is like that in INDIA) and thereby increase in prices..
and see the fate of small states like Jharkand now.. The people there didnt supported JMM (shoren) and Congress got the majority seats.. But with BJP supports shoren became CM which the people didnt want (is this democracy?).. Didnt you find any Hund aseembly in AP/TN in the last 20 years????
and You only discussed the history., what about the other points??? what about the vast number of Institutes Hyd got ( no andhra person invested in it).. If it not a capital of united AP atleast half of those institutes may have been moved to other regions/other states..
sravan says
Inspite of sharing borders with 6 states we are today able to conduct trade with out any problem. If a new state forms i think these will actually decrease. Because telangana will share border with 4 states, andhra region will share border with again 6 states(of which one would be telangana and if andhra is going to resist then there would be definitely bureaucratic clashes, So let telangan go with a friendly note)
So do you think it is for better or worse?
Praveen says
‘we are today able to conduct trade’???
I don’t now whether you are ignorant or just talking like that, you know from last year intra-state transfer of rice, pulses etc are banned(virtually all food items) and only they can sell it within the state.. and any lorry/truck whichever it passing through one state to other will pay some bribe to persons at checkpost of borders although they had all the documents (its like this in INDIA).. This bribery is one of the reasons of further increase in prices..
If a small Tourist Van/private bus (nor RTC or cars) had to leave a state they will get some type of NOC from RTO or authorities (not exactly) for a single trip.. Just take a AP car(AP registration) and roam in Chennai some police will surely stop and fine you for a silly reason also.. Our Hyderabad is very much better., they dont nag other state vehicles much (not as in chennai)
Plz dont talk without knowing and dumbly..
Santosh says
We must understand that the majority of the people in our country are illeterate. Even some so called educated people talk nonsense when they become leaders for their personal gains.
There is no loss to Telengana if Hyderabad is made seperate. Because Hyderabad can not be seperated from Telangana geographicallly. Moreover they will have two state/ union territory for Telangana. I helps the issue to get resolved quickly.
If Telangana want to seperate from Andhra Pradesh then why not Hyderabad people can not have their own place if they are willing so. If Pro telangana people want non Telangana people to respect their sentiments for a seperate state then it is same for the Hyderabad people also.
Telangana people can not have the cake and eat it too.
Telangana people argue that why can not Andhrites stay in Hyderabad after seperation when so many other sates’ people are staying there. BUt the turth is other states’ people have not come here to make Hyderabad their own capital and for them Hyderabad is always different state capital. But for Andhra people it is their capital city when they came here.
Mohan says
Like I have mentioned before, the true colors of this whole separatist/united movement is yet to unfold. Keep watching for more twists and disarray in the days to come for this Hyderabad issue.
Praveen says
I found it on net, Just want to share with you:
First thing is, everyone of you have a good look into the Human Development Index report of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2009 by the National Council of Applied Economic Research,a Govt body. You can find it here at this link.
For the relevant tables you can have a look from page 28.
One of the interesting fact is that of the top 5 districts having High HDI, 3 are from Telangana region.!!!!
And some more facts.
Please understand that the net irrigated area has increased from 27.47 lakh hectares to 55 lakh hectares between 1955-56 and 2001-02. 90% of the public expenditure on irrigation was spent on Major irrigation projects and remaining 10% on the minor irrigation projects. As Telangana is in the Deccan Plateau region there irrigation cannot be done as like other places. It comes under minor irrigation.
IRRIGATION:
In 1st & 2nd Plans, after facing devastating famines, producing food grains towards self sufficiency was the priority and investments in Andhra area in irrigation projects provided optimum return/expenditure ratio. In national interest towards food grain self sufficiency irrigation investments were made in Andhra area not out of any love towards Andhras.
CANALS AND WATER:
Telangana is part of Deccan Plateau. It is on quite high level compared to Andhra which is nearer to sea level. That water flows from up downwards and not the other way round. The gravity line naturally facilitates and promotes canal irrigation in delta areas whereas it is not so feasible in plateau regions. From Godavari and Krishna in Telangana area it is only possible to irrigate through lift irrigation which requires so much energy to produce which big industries are needed. So well and tank irrigation is suitable and needed for such regions. That was well looked after in the olden days but the modern rulers of all regions neglected it. Tube wells are so extensively dug in Telangana and I understand in Rayalaseema also that the water table there has precipitately fallen down. This is man-made disaster, just blaming the governments is also not good.
Lift Irrigation projects are the only feasible way to extract water and they seem be very expensive like prana hitha chevella project(40,000 cores +) with a lot of energy needs to lift the water. how much of this is valid? Can someone suggest some locations for any projects that can be constructed in telangana region which are not lift based and provide large benefit to the underserved parts of the telangana (with cost benefit analysis)?
Mohan says
Thanks for the info praveen. But do you think that makes any sense as of now?
PNR says
I completly agree with Mohan. Is that solution to any problem for any region is seperation? If so then go on ask for seperate state for region . Today each village has some or the other problem. Fight for declaring each village as a state.
This may sound funny… but for sure after 100 years these politicians will divide india. Common man is just following politicians instead of thinking abt the problem. Who will in loss after all these things is the common man not the politcians. Burning buses increases the bus fair (not paid by politcian), blocking highways increases the day to day items fair (for politician it is nothing as he already has some hundreds of crores in his bank)
Sravan was opposing that for any bill to pass in the parliament it needs the majotiry… how can u say Andhra is having the majority? there is rayalaseema also. So no one is having complete majority. Politicians has work properly.
Mohan says
Thanks for appreciating my thoughts. Politicians are already busy at dividing India into bits and pieces.. no need to wait for another 100 years!
dinesh says
Hi guys,
i came across some planning commission reports. telengana and seema had been doing poorly in the stats. I hope telengna state has to come, otherwise there would be no change in the spending of government for the betterment of the telengana people
Santosh says
Whatever may be the reason now Telangana should be given. But at the same time even Telangana people should think twice before they ask for Hyderabad which is a comon asset of all.
I think the best way is to seperate Hyderabad and put it under central rule. The income generated in Hyderabad will go to the central govt and they will distribute it to both Andhra and Telagana states.
Now it is not pssible to keep the Telangana people united with Andhra pradesh. Let them lead thier own lives under their own leadership.
Telangana people are most welcome to have their own state but they can not demand Hyderabad just for Telangana alone.
Mohan says
Santosh, Hyderabad has always been the choice more than telangana or andhra. All these movements are to reap the benefit of revenue generated from this region. This is going to be a hot topic of discussion when the state re-organization happens.
Mohan says
More than anything now what matters the most is the creation of a new state/s. Hope people get the benefit instead of all those middlemen at least after this.
Reshma says
Not just the people of state, but the entire nation is boiling because of the developments in AP. So many requests for new states formation. There has be a common yardstick for forming any new state. It can’t be just based on the protests/bundhs/hunger strikes.
Mohan says
Very true.. that is the need of the hour for sure. But Telangana issue has come far off all that. There can be peace in the short run only if the state is divided. But in the long run, it will turn out to be a nightmare for all the adjacent states if things aren’t discussed properly before forming a separate state.
ASR Pantulu says
Mohan, there are so many backward areas in Andhra Pradesh. MPs & MLAs will be appreciated, if they fight for state developemental activities & improvement in backward acreas. The so called political leaders are playing with the fate of the students. Every body in the state are feeling bad about the present situation in Andhra Pradesh. Every day they are giving bundh call for nothing. Central Government should act immediately to solve the problem and stop the political agitations.
Mohan says
I am deeply hurt because the students are getting involved in all these controversies rather than focusing on their studies. Not sure when the leaders will understand the adverse effects of all these strikes. Nothing progressive, it is just a setback for the economy and daily lives… One has to get back to the discussion table to sort out all the things.. bundh’s will not solve any problem.
Praveen says
Some people were brainwashed by their parents/friends/society that they were suppressed, and it will take a lot of effort to change their mindset. If many people’s were brainwashed its becomes mass hysteria. For the people of Pakistan (according to their rulers/history) India has snatched Kashmir from them but in reality it wasn’t. The problem is that in a confrontation one party tells bad things and the other party the good things. we people first look into the bad things (its human nature) and if only some truth is there (at least 10%) we will support him only (may be sympathy) but we rarely hear the positive side and vote for them.
I studied PG in Hyderabad. In our Class there is equal number of people belonging to all regions. I had all friends belonging to 3 districts of telangana regions(nalgonda, nizamabad & warangal). One guy is there from warangal who got a less rank then me in Entrance test but as he is local to Hyderabad he got University seat as I am non-local to hyd/OU I joined paying donation. Here he had one advantage/opportunity (compared to me/us) . (there are other guys who got seat with lesser ranks then him due to reservation)) In some chit-chat this warangal guy will tell us (this in 2005/2006) that if GO 610 is implemented we all had to leave hyd and he used to talk like this. May be at his home/homeplace there is somewhat hatred to us. The remaining telangana friends used to tell just ignore him and they will tell us that ‘take lite yaar, he will talk like that only’. After we completed PG many of us got jobs include my friends of telangana region., but due to recession some of them wont got any job including this warangal person. what about his situation now. As this person is already filled with hatred now his ill wishes/opinion became true., May be according to him his job has been grabbed by another non-local guy(which is 100% not as it is related to private sector).. Some of my telangana friends didnt got any job., may be they too joined this agitation believing(!!!) they will get something (some JOB) but in true they can’t get anything..
For the brain washed warangal guy what can we tell to change his mindset and tell him truth that he lost race in a competent world., he wont accept (neither I/we).. FOr him its better to think that he was suppressed instead of accepting the truth.. while for the remaining telangana friends who got jobs this is not the situation.. many non-local gays also didn’t got jobs, but they didn’t blamed others as in their home they were not brainwashed in this way..
( I didn’t want to hurt anyone but want to tell the world I saw how people felt with different scenarios)
Mohan says
Thanks for sharing your thoughts praveen. We shouldn’t generalize everyone from that region just based on one example. I am sure, people are good there, just that some people taking the rest for a ride by showing pseudo pasture. I am sure most of the educated do understand the whole situation better. Some of them keep silent thinking that they will have lesser competition once the state is divided. May be true.. but that will not help in the long run. Better the competition, greater will be the end results. Complaining because one can’t compete is illogical again!
lostworld says
I missed this post..
Well I’m so fed up of this Telangana tussle I simply change channels when I hear anything about AP. Form a new state or country, go on a fast, die fasting.. I’ve stopped caring :-/ Bunch of morons as U rightly said!
Story was a good ex.
Mohan says
True.. its not just you. Even I couldn’t hold back my thoughts on this whole saga, hence all my anguish on the issue in this article form.
krishna rao says
In a family if one of the children is not normal and if others do not treat him/her well, the family does not break, but errant members are counseled and corrected and the below normal person given special treatment and encouraged to grow normal.
Why not Telangana be given such a treatment as part of Andhrapradesh, by way of separate funds, separate committee [ may be Telangana Planning Commission to administer the funds.
I am 72 , Telugu speaking, living outside AP for last 50 years and with no option to return to the state, but anguished at what is happening to the great people of AP.
Mohan says
Rightly said Mr. Rao. Unfortunately, Telangana leaders need nothing but a separate state now as if it is a miraculous solution to all the problems. That too a separate statehood in a time bound manner to know when they can start capitalizing on power game. So solve the problem in a husky manner and then repent for lifetime… Don’t we need more problems to fight out in the decades to come? That way, the parties can always talk about the basic needs of a common man and keep the vote bank intact.
mohit says
Mr Rao, Totally agree with you. That should be the first step. A special arrangement such that the Telangana populace can be assured a fair treatment both economically and otherwise. This is definitely the right approach before jumping to carving out new states.
However, In this case, there have been these arrangements right from formation of the state of AP. viz. Gentlemen’s Agreement, 6 point formula, GO-610 etc none of which have seen any light of the day when it came to implementation. I also concede there is personal interest of politicians on both sides. (politicians care only if their interests are at stake, both for and against). But, you cannot ignore the sentiments of people, that were lying dormant all this while, now unfortunately are being fomented by our great leaders.
What do you think should be done if such promises are not followed through?
(My position: I’m still undecided about the whole separate state, but would like to see some sensible solution. In the end if it means a separate state, so be it.)
Aparna says
Mohan,
Good post, and a balanced point of view. You seem to have touched a raw nerve here. Just a look at the comments, and we know the kind of emotions that run through us. This whole issue of dividing and re-forming states remains debatable. On various grounds, we have formed and re-formed many states since independence. While some have resulted in better governance and overall development, some (notably Jharkhand) have failed miserably. As Roshmi rightly points out, in many cases, it might just be a certain class that benefits from these exercises. But just look at what has happened after Telangana formation was agreed upon. Promptly, there’s a renewed demand for NINE new states. If this is not a desperate hunger for power, what is it? Where do we stop with this? What if we still remain oppressed after the re-division? Will we then ask for a separate nation? This would never end!
I too trace my roots back to Chittoor, and having some relatives there, I know the plight of the common man. The kids are home without schools, the man of the house (a wage labourer) is jobless as there’s no work, and the lady, who works in a hospital, is working overtime because of the victims of violence!!! Families like this don’t care which state they belong to, as far as they can have their peace restored back to them. Don’t we have enough problems already, that we are raising few more? Why not devote the effort to some actual development projects?
What I fear is, this issue is bringing out the latent hatred within the minds of the mass. The re-division, if it fails, would only widen the rich-poor divide, and those who would suffer will again be the poor and working class. Just look at the hate in the minds of people even in comparatively peaceful states and cities (Mumbai, even Bangalore…remember the ‘Bangalore is full, Go back’ campaign; or even the kind of treatment meted out to outsiders, especially North Indians, by some of our fanatics?). Do we actually need to fuel this disaster-in-waiting? Or should we concentrate on some inclusive development???
PS: There seems to be a typo in the penultimate stanza, where you say, ‘Think sensible and act per your concise,…’ guess it should’ve been ‘conscience’….
Aparna.
Mohan says
All valid points. That takes me back to why the so called leaders don’t show the same kind of efforts towards development related projects. The mindset of ‘Hatred’ is already prevalent in both the regions. It can only get murkier if the state is not divided, thanks to all the so called great leaders. You must have observed this in the past 2 days, everyone is already thinking of how to take the credit for ‘Telangana’ and what strategies to follow to gain political advantage. Isn’t that sufficient to understand the ‘POWER HUNGER’ of these crap leaders?
Ah.. you caught me there! I am correcting it right away 😀
sravan says
Mohan,
I am really despired to see that all andhra people(not you) equate the true aspiration of separate telangana as a measure of Hatred where as there had been several solicitations before to solve the problem internally especially from telangana side went in vain. As an outsider you may not be aware of telangana demands for the past decades and how the promises were shelved.
Well I am at the same time amused to find that you look at the samaikyandhra movement in a different perspective (because of your opinion or idealogy I assume).
If the samaikhyandra movement did nt turn violent on the very first day may be we would have hoped a lot better solution today.
Mohan says
There you go again Sravan, with your own shell of assumptions and the bad happenings from the past. The more we dig through past, that much more we spread the hatred among people because of all these blame games. We have no control over what has happened in the past. But we can take things in the right direction by means of peaceful discussions to sort out things than calling out for Bandh’s like one big moron who announced a while back today.
Aparna says
Right again Mohan. The past holds a lot of pains for all of us. Didn’t India, as a whole subcontinent, suffer at the hands of the British? Is it a sane measure to go and hunger-strike in front of the Buckingham Palace for the wrongs committed? And, on the same vein, what did partition actually achieve for all the countries that were divided then? This again becomes a matter of debate.
We hardly see the politcos of any state (not only Andhra region) having the nerve to actually do some constructive work. Instead, we have people who play to the gallery and invent hare-brained schemes like free televisions and 2 Rs. rice, which affect the balance elsewhere. People are being misled everywhere, and it actually pains a normal citizen to see through these cheap politics.
Mohan says
Why do you think india still has a huge population of illiterates? It is tough to survive with literates and educated you see… so they do maintain their fair bit of vote bank. Only an awareness movement can save people form all these scam masters. I am tired of reading/writing about all such issues… take sometime to read out other posts on politics here on this blog 🙂
Reshma says
As Andhra Pradesh boils over the Telangana issue, public and private properties worth over Rs 250 crore were destroyed by protesters in all the three regions of the state so far according to govt sources. Whos money is it? It is the money of ‘WE’ – the tax payers. I don’t want some idiots destroy money for no good. Shame on all the leaders.. rightly pointed to the root cause Mohan. Hope those leaders get to read this and feel ashamed of themselves.
Mohan says
Shamefully, that is how things run in India. No wonder we are still fighting for basic needs!
sravan says
Mohan,
I would also bring tou your attention that probably you may have never thoght about or ignored.
Guys of your kind and If may say, most people from andhra region have been thinking that this whole telangana thing is something which was brought out by a corrupt politician to gain leverage. You also go forward to say with out any instinctual concern that telangana people are being used up by these politicians. By saying that you also imply that telangana peole more or less do not assess like you guys because they are naturally incompetent. Indeed this notion has gone into your minds and you consider this as an universal truth to an extent that you even openly say that all these days politicians have been exploiting the ignorance of telangana people.
You some how happen to pity our conditions and then give us ideas and thoughts out of generosity to help us. You do not want us to loose this generosity and therefore you conclude that separate state is not good for telangana.
When we patiently listen to your analysis about this one sided political corruption and ask you questions legibly you just ignore them as some thing that is not even worthful to cionsider. If I may say, IF you go back and look at my comment I did raise some doubts on your analysis bit you never happen to clarify your position based on that. You just blabber things from your sole prospective as if I am blaming you for something. Most of you also happen to start abusing TRs/KCR with which I am no way connected or even care a damn.
If you come out of your supremacist ideology that anshra are more intelligent and culturally superior, you will understand the tings. Because if a separate state forms your poloticians and people are going to fight over caste politics and there is sure going to be an ancient Palnadu type civil war with in your state.
Mohan says
Again I am repeating here.. you are putting across your thoughts keeping in mind that I belong to a particular region and I am biased towards them. Let me repeat one more time… I am a neutral person based out of Karnataka. Simply don’t assume things and better not to bring in the barriers like your people and my people.
suresh rao says
Sravan,
In all fairness mohan has tried his best to clarify the queries raised by you. I regret educated people like you cannot accept a genuine point of view. Everyone has a right to his or her opinion and mohan has balanced his arguments well. One cannot not find any merrit in your argument. the only fact highlighted is the ‘development ‘plank. The need of the hour is to mitigate these issues and unfortunately the guys who did not perform are again entrusted with this job. I am afraid that the country will disintegrate into tiny states with guys like you supporting such sinister designs and expect others to fall in line. May be if such things continue we may need a passport to get into telengana. It is a shame that we indians cannot settle matters over discussions and dialogues. It is exhibition of sheer opportunism and exploitation of the ‘naturally incompetent’ in the name of Telengana.
Elaya Kumar S says
The crux of the problem is we lack visionary leaders. They are bothered only about getting votes in the next elections. No political party is to be exempted. When mob mentality is aroused, reasoning and rational thinking is voluntarily thrown to the winds. It is a political drama performed in a flawless manner with the sole aim to gain political mileage, but unfortunately the common people are taken for a ride as usual. Further the ground level situation was neither properly understood nor handled in a sensitive manner by the people who are in power and supposed to take decisions. Let us hope better sense prevail among the people and normalcy is restored soon.
Mohan says
Very true Mr kumar. There are few visionary leaders, unfortunately they are never allowed to excel. This would hamper the other leaders motives, so they get no chance to take the center stage.
Hari says
Mohan,
You hit the nail on the head when you point out that the politicians who are at the forefront of this movement are the same people who have represented the so-called “backward regions” for decades. It is very difficult for me to believe that being “backward” is one of the primary reasons driving this movement. This region is only as backward as any district in Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Should we start carving out separate states just because they are backward or not well represented?
Mohan says
Your question is as good as mine too! No clue where we are heading towards.
Roshmi Sinha says
Yes. Everything from educational certificates to driving license and other documents will have to be upgraded w.r.t the new ‘status’. The whole of Andhra Pradesh has a free movement of goods and services… which are generating some economic activity and providing livelihood to a lot of people… now. Even beyond its borders. With a new state… there will be additions and unwelcome ones at that: sales tax, VAT, et al. This will only put more pressure on the already stretched purses of the common people.
Several folks may find themselves out of jobs… the ones who work in different territory, that is. More money will have to be shelled out for activities which are now pretty much ‘routine’.
Plus there will be a renaming spree… roads, lanes, you name it. This will result in creating a cartel… and will fatten the purses of a certain ‘class’. Once a cash cow or several cash cows are identified or created… it is impossible to get rid of them.
The common people will have no succour… instead they will be under greater stress, especially vis-a-vis employment as well as economically. Disillusionment will only make things worse. A lot of negative activities in many parts of our nation has happened via this route. I wonder what are the sources of Vitamin Ms… for so many political parties and also parties filled with ‘sons of the soils’. The folks heading them usually hail from extremely humble backgrounds. Wonder where they have got their ‘midas touch’ from…
sreedhar says
hey even the people of telangana know that it is not the question of their self esteem its high time for people to wake and don’t get fooled by a group of political leaders who are thriving hard for some employment…………
Roshmi Sinha says
By resorting to violent means of protests, etc… these crusaders are not doing any favour to themselves or to their cause. They are just making an under-developed region even more under-developed.
Burning of buses and other vehicles or setting fire to this and that… will not help.
Too many states are not good for the federation. And no solution to ‘backwardness’. Look at what happened to Jharkand. Punjab stands out. True. But then Punjab is a different issue altogether. Its social, economical as well as geographical and political issues were very different.
Creation of a new state will only result in more profits for a certain class… via., administrative changes, change of names, paper work involved, etc.
It will not solve any issue… vis-a-vis ‘backwardness’.
It will also result in the opening of an unwanted ‘Pandora’s Box’… the consequences of which this nation cannot afford. Too many regional issues, linguistic issues… plus the increase in the number of regional chieftains and political parties will weaken the federation.
India needs to have a strong two party system. The bit players can flock towards them and work under that larger umbrella. On their own… they will be a nuisance. It is good to see the other national party trying to set its house in order. While the first is not making any effort to undercut it. That is a healthy sign. And that is the way to go.
There are many invisible and dark forces who have in the past… and still continue to make efforts which are detrimental for this nation. We are Indians first and Indians last. We should keep the nation ahead and above everything else… and not indulge in petty politics and point-scoring activities.
Mohan says
Roshmi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. You just put forward few more things that were running in my mind while writing this article. It is just an illusion that people are thinking of a better living soon the new state is formed. The common man will suffer the most once the new state is formed in terms of socio-economical issues. After all new things have to be funded which doesn’t reach to the ‘junta’ anyways. Just a big hole to the taxpayers money being wasted to make some middlemen and the so called leaders rich.
sravan says
Shrinidhi hande,
I oppose with what you say about the states as White Elephants. May be because the things haven’t reached a certain maturity to satisfy your imagination that does not mean we as a nation of states are not progressive.
I don’t think any body would have a doubt in that.
But saying that you are not just questioning the very credibilty of not only our nations constitution but majority of the mations around the world. If you are right then our nation should have been a single unit instead of several units. Can you imagine the chaos? Or may be we as whole world would have been a single unit with out any boundaries. Do you see any rationality or less, practicality in that?
sravan says
Shrinidhi Hande,
Actually there is such provision in our constitution. And forming a new state is not a new thing. Or else we would have the same 14 states with which our nation began its long journey after becoming a republic. So the number of states being doubled in this 50 years I think it is perfectly legitimate to have it doubled in the next 50 years depending on the need and necessity of administrative convenience.
I don’t think our generation would forget the recent inclusion of three new states to our kitty.
Shrinidhi Hande says
I feel there has to be predefined parameters to decide on new state.. For example, if LIC is to open new regional office, they would need a certain no of policies from that region, similarly, banks will have certain business targets before opening a new branch..
When it comes to states,it is mainly political ambitions of few that fuels everything… With same amount of revenue, people of AP and Centre will have to feed two sets of white elephants-one each for each state
Mohan says
Shrinidhi, when the states re-organization was made, it was purely based on linguistic and cultural aspects in the past. Now the things have gone beyond those and have been taken over by the sheer motive of ‘power hunger’. Take example of Jarkhand, Uttaranchal etc., the problems have multiplied. Not just that, political instability is another face of such states.
sravan says
To Rohini,
I am very much in despair of the violent nature of the agitations, they have turned to lately and My best wishes are with you and your friends’ family. But understand that such a situation would have been avoided when people made a peaceful demand. Instead the govt. the very govt. we elected played with it like a softball. When there is a change that is coming things of this nature happen unfortunately. I know i cannot empathize with the sufferers any more than these words i detest any act of violence.
Mohan says
Empathy and violence doesn’t go hand in hand. It is even more sad that the leaders call for ‘Bandh’ when there are alternative channels of negotiations to get things resolved in a peaceful way than making people’s lives miserable. What are they achieving at the end of the day? just the HATE among us. Shame on all the leaders who keep giving calls for ‘Bandh’. At the end of the day, everyone has to meet up sometime other the other to decide the proceedings. Without doing anything of that sort simply making provocative acts is no means of getting any fruitful result.
sravan says
Mohan,
Well, given your logic that as long as the leaders make a honest effort solving people issues , nothing can stop them. So every time a telangana leaders have to put lot of efforts, assuming honest, then and only then thier needs and necessities will be considered being their status as a minority in legislature.
On the other hand the leaders of andhra with relatively little effort, if not effortlessly, can have their peoples’ needs and necesities fulfilled.
In any case we have a lower hand.
And I do not say there hasn’t been any development. But very little and so little that our leaders could accomplish with such efforts.
Well an analogy explained, I start from home on a bike where as my brother begins walking because I do not allow him to ride on bike eventhough we are going to same destination. So after a while I would reach the destination but my brother inspite of all his strongest efforts lags miles behind me. The only solution here is my dad should buy a bike for my brother
So I think it is better to separate for this administratice convenience of telangana people than staying united and lag behind for years.
Mohan says
I beg to differ strongly with some of your points here. Like I have mentioned before, my roots point to Chittoor in Andhra. If things were so nice, our family wouldn’t have moved to Bangalore. The problems are there all over equally. Just search for chittoor on this blog and you get to read a lot of issues out there. It is just that people have been taught to fight this way with ‘minority’ feeling to have a deeper penetration. Think honestly again, how many times have they really fought for people’s issues since 90s? Please refer to appropriate data on how many such issues have been bought up in assembly or parliament through RTI. Everyone is busy in making money in their own interest. And now they want us to follow their stories which make us feel betrayed than anything else.
sravan says
Mohan, I do not want to show an individual’s example here but because being a person belonging to telangana and living in andhra for a while I realized whenever I read the newspapers (especially you should look at the local district editions) I came to a conclusion that certain things in andhra are well developed. Andhra peoples concers are usually the ones that focus on betterment of something they already have while telangana people concerns are always basic needs. It is not that there is no political awareness but when we look at the actual picture telangana politicians make a minority. Taking into consideration that bureaucracy and administration affairs are tightly controlled by mostly( I would reather say 99%) it is pretty much a tough thing for telangana leaders to have things settled for them. Always they will be dissatisfied by meagre funds that go no where.
Well I dont want to argue with you on that but I will probably ask you some thing else.
Are you so confident that ANdhra politicians are good and not corrupt?
Mohan says
Sravan, you are again making false assumptions that I belong to Andhra. Let me make it clear again.. I am not bringing in any barriers here, I am a neutral guy. I would suggest you read my article again without any pre-conceived thoughts in your mind. I have written against leaders irrespective of the region they belong to. You still have any questions?
Rohini says
One of my friend’s uncle in hyderabad fell sick due cardiac arrest. It was around morning 8:30… it was not possible for even an ambulance to reach on time. Though it arrived late, it was only at 10 by the time they reached hospital. What if the attack was severe? he would have lost is life… Please leave us to live the way we were. We don’t need your pointless violent agitations to unite or separate the state.
Mohan says
Sorry to know that Rohini. I can only thank god for making your friends uncle still safe and alive. The mindless idiots never get the things rights and always take wrong measures to protest.
sravan says
HI,
As you said in the beginning I can understand your apathy towards politics. So you try to find a simple straight forward reason for the underdevelopment in telangana. Like you said I agree with you, you have a very insensitive nerve for state affairs and how things run in a democratic set up. Since you agreed that you do not understand these things I would take a slight effort to explain. The foremost thing in every democratic system is that it is the majority that rules. In AP which is fundamentally divided into three regions telangana forms minority and even a layman knows how the political system runs by numbers. So it is quite apparent that whenever some resolution, for instance an increase in allocation of funds to a river project to supply water to telangana land, is introduced the majority andhra legislators would trash it with their brutal majority. Say if one dare to do atleast such an act, his position in the government is at the stake of majority andhra powerbrokers because there are tens of leaders who are waiting to take his position. Telangana legislators are like cream with out core. Holes can be punched with a slightest disturbance.
Well you may feel it as something artificial but this has happened several times in the history of telangana. One famous example which every one of andhra region today would like to forget I am citing here. The victim was none other than the so called “Father of Indian Economic Reforms” PVN Rao, one of the most ingenious and diplomatic Prime Minister India has seen after independence . In 1971 PV who was from telangana was made the CM of AP after a long agitation for separate state. In the wake of telangana movement he was allowed to take this position against the wishes of strong andhra power brokers to mollify telangana agitators. PV was obviously the choice because he was loyal to Indira and was not a favorite of separate state but still he belonged to Telangana. He was also bestowed with responsibility of proper implementation of 6-point formula by Indira(who percieved the weak situation of telangana in this union but still adamant not to accept a separate state) which safeguarded telangana regions’ interests in Legislative Assembly and safeguard the job opportunities of telangana people. As soon as PV started implementing these regulations the andhra politicians first chose to challenge this in Supreme court where they were disappointed. Soon they started a violent movement in andhra region called “Jai Andhra” which seeked separate state for the region, this time the other part of the state. Soon the tirade against PV gained support from the land lords of Rayalseema because he was also implementing the land reforms(Telangana was the first region in India to Implement these and PV being one of land lord to relinquish his family land of 1100 acres for govt sponsored redistribution of lands to the poor). Overall these agaitaions blackmailed the Union go back on its promise on 6-point formula and Mulki rules that through a parliamentary resolution even the supreme courts order was scraped out. PV was removed from his post after less than few months and a state of pre 1969 was established. In the past 50 years telangana CM’s were in position only for 6 years. This clearly depicts how the vested interests of majority regions can brutally suppress the basic demands of minority regions. PV then was called to take up a position in the center and rest is the history.
I can cite several of these instants in recent time but I leave it you to investigate if you are really interested and if you are an unbiased party.
Mohan says
Sravan, I don’t want to get into provocative words. The more you dig about the past, that much more the problem deepens. I don’t belong to any political party as such nor to any region given the kind of movement going on right now. Though I was born in AP, all my life went here in Karnataka starting my childhood. Though Karnataka and TN are bigger states, every year when there is a shortage in rainfall, the water dispute arises between the states. The same is no different among Maharashtra, Karnataka and AP. Dividing states will bring in one more state to quarrel out. What is the roadmap to make telangana a better plan? Problems will only multiply with smaller states. If you thought only CM post will develop Telangana, I can only pity on your thoughts. How many times did Karnataka or Andhra or Tamilnadu have had PMs? Has that altered the progress of states? That just shows how good is your political knowledge given that I am apathetic towards politics. That one single thought shows how much power hunger each of us have.
It is wrong to say that some group keeps suppressing the other. As long as the leaders make a honest effort at solving people issues, nothing can stop them. How many times have we seen these leaders talking about the real issues in assembly or parliament? Most of the time is spent on blaming each other and running the house into a disarray. All we need at this point of time is whether we really need to go by a way that these leader are showing. I have no hopes that they are towards making a better living for their people. Instead all they need is the power and make a fortune out of the foolishness of people by spreading the sentimental provocation. In my view all this movement is a way to hide their ineffectiveness during past several decades.
Srinivas M says
Mohan,
“Problems will only multiply with smaller states.”
Do you mean that even if resources are being distributed unevenly to the benefit of one region, people from other regions have to keep quite? What is the meaning of democracy then? Is it just participating in election and go into shell and hide till next elections?
“If you thought only CM post will develop Telangana, I can only pity on your thoughts.”
Yes, just CM alone will not be able to do anything on his/her own. What CM does immediately after assuming power is he/she fills all the key positions with ‘trusted’ people who will guide and implement the agenda. That is why people from Telangana want separation as most of the key positions are getting filled by people from other regions. It is illusion to think that they will be just. If they have not been till now why will they be in future?
I have seen most of the people supporting united state just blaming politicians that they incited people? But if that is the case it would have died down in short time. There would not have been any need for Centre to send platoons of police to crush the ‘will of people’. By doing this they are hardening the fence sitters.
If you see statistics, right from formation of AP, most of the top positions in almost all departments were held by people from the other regions. Nothing is bigger joke than saying that they were by ‘merit’.
All through the MLA’s/MP’s from Telengana have been managed. It is high time they act to regain some respect.
One more thing they argue is this violence is driving away corporates out of Hyderabad? I do not think corporates are so foolish base their decisions on temporary problems. If they go some other company will come. This argument is only an alibi.

Hi,
Mohan has covered the issue well.. very well.
The agitation is nothing but a fight for “POSITIONS” TO BECOME KODAs.
The language used by these agitators for separate state is nothing but OF GOONDAS, TERRORISTS & BLACKMAILERS.
Even God can’t help Telengana people if they have to live under the rule of such politicians.
Mohan says
Well Mr Rao, a very similar act was showcased by the other group too.. now these people are just following the steps shown before. None is different. The fault is with everyone for the situation the state is facing today. All I want to see is a peaceful life throughout without hurting common man.

” I usually stay away from writing politics related stuff. ”
Everybody does it, to stay away from controversies. Any common person like you and me, as you have done, has all rights to talk about it until anything offensive. So, worry not 🙂 Keep the good work going.
A single day’s strike leaves a whole family, running on daily wages, with hunger. Its so tough to imagine their situation now.
I wish the whole issue gets resolved soon.
Mohan says
That is my hope too.. now that the JAC is threatening of an indefinite strike starting 29th, i feel sorry for the people of that region.

its been exactly a month i read this post n commented. Happened to meet one of the Hyderabadi yesterday. He says strikes r common there and just like bangalore’s ITPL or electronic city he works for an MNC in hyderabad’s such locality. He just takes it so casually, as der s hardly any effect to his routine work or life otherwise. Its only the lower class ppl affected it seems.. BTW when’s this gonna resolve????????????
Mohan says
Hmm, it always affects the people who rely on their daily labor to make a living. Telangana issue is not that simple to get an amicable solution that satisfies all. Everyone needs to get to the table like I have mentioned and sort out the things. If people simply keep agitating and making lives miserable, they are doing no good but simply causing a delay in the whole process.

Hi Mohan,
This is an interesting blog post. You have raised good points. The elected politicians were so corrupt all these years and were busy looting the common man that they never dealt with any problems in Telangana…
A sure-shot formula for elections…
Problem=>Reaction=>Solution
1) The government creates or exploits a problem blaming it on others
2) The people react by asking the government for help willing to give up their rights
3) The government offers the solution that was planned long before the crisis
People have a right to form a state if the majority wants it, but not through violence…
Cheers!
Mohan says
Thanks! I can’t believe that people are still following these leaders blindly. Violence is never an option of any optimal solution.

hmm ….. there are no schools from 30 days for the children,Small scale industries are badly effected by this bldy strikes, Univ students became first class rowdies…. I think this is what our so called political leaders want.. anywayz gud post
Mohan says
I completely agree with you. It will be difficult to regain the faith in corporate world to consider Hyderabad as an investment area any more. I am deeply hurt that the university students have become the worst hit because of all this backlash. Hope things will get better soon.
Shiva says
Who are the first class rowdies? Do you know basic roots of Telangana? why are you writing blogs on telangana issue? They are agitated for their future. Know the facts before you post.
