SunDirect DTH services are provided by Sun Network. I got SunDirect installed on June 1st of 2008 and my experience with them has been good so far. The installation guy was very friendly and came promptly at a previously agreed time. He had all the equipment to set up the receiver dish on my roof top and got it erected in no time. He gave a detailed info on the service, Dos and Dont’s etc., Also, we were given information on the technology, customer support info, activation method, recharge options and much more.
Sun Direct uses the latest MPEG-4 based technology to increase broadcast capacity. Where as the other DTH providers in India like TataSky and DishTV are currently using MPEG-2 technology. SunDirect picture and sound clarity is certainly better than the other players in this market.
Now, let me write about the channel options and pricing. SunDirect costed me Rs 1999/- which includes Installation and activation charges as well as 1 year subscription for their Freedom package. In this package you can select any one of the regional languages as your basic pack. This pack comes with approximately about 80+ channels including all major south indian linguistic channels along with few limited Hindi and news channels. SunDirect basic package also includes a good number of radio stations operated by Sun FM and AIR. SunDirect’s pricing is comparitively less. A couple of days back, they have introduced many sub packs for movies, kids entertainment, regional language top ups etc., Thats a good sign for customers. There are few more good things about SunDirect, there is no dependency of using a given smart card on any other Sun DTH STB. This is not the case with other players as on date.
Now coming to the drawbacks, the major miss is wrt sports channels like Star and ESPN, BBC. Not sure when they are going to bring those channels into their packages. I would look forward for individual channels pricing instead of getting them in a package. This option provides user with full freedom of paying for only those channels which they opt to view. SunDirects Customer call centre isn’t that great either. They were struggling to provide information when I called them. May be it needs a bit of improvement as it is the early days of their evolution. Reliance’s BigTV DTH service launch is just round the corner. This will bring in a healthy competition among DTH players in the market and customer would be the beneficiary at the end of the day.

In the winter season if we get heavy air out side that’s it only free channels will come…

Its the worst service I had ever seen. Recharging the account is so bugging and customer care executives are worthless and ofcourse what can they do if the service is not proper.
I had wasted some 1000 goin through different sites just for rechrge of 143.money was deducted but of no use. The same experience for installation even we got the channels only after 3days of installation. This recharge dint happen yet. We watch TV to forget our tensions and this shd not be another tension.
I am bugged up trying to recharge my account and feel like throwing this device.

Hey All, a distributor who had initially set up sundirect had come over to our place today and he has re-aligned the dish and has reset the set top box with appropriate settings. Yes, it was free of cost 🙂

Signal strength is OK(67%). Please Help

we live in sharjah i came to chennai for vacatn until the sun direct was working the day i left a month ago it had completely vanished .no picture no channels nothing…….i heard that there was a satellite problem.its been a mnth since i am in Chennai still it is not recovered .my husband is there.he tried all the frequencies but in vain.can u pls.suggest what is the frequency v have to adjust so that when v get back form vacation v will have atleast tv channels to.especially my kid who spends time watching cartoon channels in ur network….kids in uae are the worst affected bcos of this bcos they dont have any other entertainment other that watching tv…so hope sundth will do something abt this at the earliest so v can enjoy the priveledge of ur services without any hidrance…..hope to hear from u at the earliest……bcos majority of the tamilians in uae r using ur dth

sun direct will change their satellite to measat 3 at 91.5 E in september.it is conformed.
now in kerala sundirect is available at just rs 990 wid 4 month free subscription!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why DTH signals disappear during rain is because of a phenomenon called Rain Fade. You will get an idea here:

I really liked this blog, but this is a year old. Let me tell you, I also love sun direct. But when the day it starts raining, I see the picture as scratch cd running in my computer. If you help me in this regard I will be more glad. Even I get some other pictures of channel when I watch other channel. it will come for a second and goes and it happens frequently.

Dear friends,
As I was told by one of our dish technicians, those who have reset to factory settings anytime after and/or have done auto scan on 16 July 2010 will not get any channels till SUN DTH base transponder is on.
Go to Menu, Dish then enter password 0000, change the scan mode to manual and check the signal strength and quality strength (people also call them dish alignment strength and signal strength).If you see values on both the bars, you will be able to scan the channels.
In addition, if you want to watch free channels (especially for those who live in middle-east), buy any cheap receiver (STB) for the free channels and you will be able to view all the free channels without realigning the dish.
