GoldQuest aka QuestNet gold scheme (some call it a scam) is the buzz that is taking rounds in Bangalore nowadays. Not that it hasn’t been around, but sounds like it has caught up once again. Last week one of my friend pulled me over for one such meeting where the talented marketers tried to convince me to enroll for this questnet business. I made an attempt to understand this is all about and how it works. After analyzing it thoroughly, it made me wonder how the so called ‘intelligent IT’ folks are falling prey for a vulnerable business model in which QuestNet is operating.
Let me write here on what I mean by vulnerable business model. To become a QuestNet ‘partner’ (business term), one needs to pay about INR 33k. By paying so, you become the privileged owner of a ‘Gold Coin’ of about 6 grams – this costs about INR 6k. They claim to have numismatic value for all the coins that they are giving away. I need to reiterate the actual meaning for numismatic here, refer to wikipedia for more information. Usually, gold coins get high value over a period of time – probably not in the life span of one generation. Also, I did a bit of search on EBay and other internet sites to figure out how much value these questnet coins can fetch. To my surprise, there were neither bidders nor any proof of a successful selling of such a coin. Now the net loss for an individual by becoming ‘business partner’ is INR 27k. Now they propose a multi level marketing (MLM) plan to make up your lost money. This goes something like this – Introduce a couple of people as partners and you attract a commission Rs 1916/- per head. Let us assume you introduced A & B. Now to reclaim your money in the form of commission, ask those 2 folks to introduce another 2 each – say A introduces A1, A2 and B gets in B1, B2. This sequence goes on to get your already paid partnership money in the form of a “Interest free commission”. There is a catch again, one need to keep introducing new people in the counts of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15…. in a group. If anyone fails on either side of the binary tree, progress halts. In turn this cuts short the money you have already paid. Now, let me put it in mathematical form.
This diagram (thanks to Wikipedia) represents what i have explained all this while. It is mathematically proved that the Number of nodes with two children is always less than half the total number of nodes – Well known as ‘Binary Tree Fact’. All the people who enter such a business model at the very early stages are the lucky ones. They will get to spread and introduce new ‘Partners’ to the chain. However, over a period of time this will reach the saturation level. This is very well shown in the diagram. If you observe the Blue circles, they are the one who joined in the early stages. They represent 11.8% percent of overall population while the circles indicated in Red counts to 88.1%. Hence the top 12% gets benefited from this kind of business model while the alarming 88% will be on the losing side. Think twice before you get in to this kind of businesses.
It is up to you to decide on whether you belong to profitable 12% or loss making 88% depending on how you take it to the next level. Why to become a fool by depositing your hard earned money with someone and they try to get it back by putting others in a fix? If you want to lose your friends and start looking at everyone including friends, relatives, co-workers etc., as targets, then this business is for you. Is this justified trap others to get back your own money in the form of commission? It will kill your good relationship with everyone around you, value of which cannot be quantified. No matter how much you make, you need people and time to enjoy in the society. Even in this material world, money is not everything. There is always life beyond making money, at least not at the cost of making others fools too. Think again.. do you really want to get in?

Dear Vijay Singh, will never get your money back nor the coin. There is a huge amount of controversies going on. On one hand QuestNet is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Malaysia while on the other hand Indian top leaders are behind the bars waiting for some kind of salvation.
That says all. The mother company never seem to be interested in Indian counter parts since the scam has been exposed, so the leaders over here including india MD are still in police custody. QI has not made any assurance to restore the business back in India. Especially the person who shares your name is always in the SPHERE of SILENCE as if he doesn’t know anything except minting peoples hard earned money.
What more you expect me to say? when the leader himself doesn’t speak up, there is no way any customer support would help.. makes sense now?

@Adv. A. D. – Very few people in rural india can afford to pay such a high amount towards questnet or goldquest. Also, there has been a great media revolution in Rural india because of which people do have access to ongoing information. Hopefully they are aware of the facts too. Good point you have bought up though.

I have made most of my friends aware of this QN scam who are mostly in professional field and new recruits in IT who had to leave for banglore and Poona..
But what about the rural areas..
They believe in people who have seen city areas and pay the amount to the person who tells them about this wonderful(so called) scheme and believing him they pay!! This virus had already reached in many rural areas in India.. And its very late for them when they come to know that they have lost their hard earned money!!

I’m glad there are ppl who see quest net to be what it is.. A scam..
there are some who have written bout pepsi.. Dudes, how can you compare the two.. Pepsi has been in the limelight for ages.. Do we see advertisements of Questnet?? I know a few ppl who are in it and trust me, they brainwash the hell out of you.. This is what i heard from all of them “Money isnt everything, its the only thing” Come on guys, get a bit original. Dont come running and say what they tell you.. Sell it on your own if you can..
These people are just out looking for Bakras, they gather all of them and send them into the lion’s den for a good brainwash session..
Whats pathetic is they have kids on it.. Fresh out of school with no other qualification.. If and when (and it will) it goes bust the people who ran to it without and backup will suffer..
By all means do it, but not without the qualifications, so that you have something to fall back on..
I heard they have started giving out phones when you join.. Dont get too excited, it aint no Nokia or Sony Ericsson or the likes.. Its a chinese made phone which actually costs Rs. 2700.. You still gotta pay 34k so if you look at the economics of it, the product you get for spending 34k has fallen in value.. Thats inflation.. Be careful people, my guess is the biggies on the top are trying to make as much cash as possible b4 closing down..
This is definitely not a good sign.
Just one more thing which has been bugging me for a while, have heard the chidambram family is involved in it as also Ved Jain (president CA institute India), how far thats true is beyond me but giving the benefit to the scammers, lets suppose they are.. Then why havent they spoken openly about it? Why do the raids take place? Surely since such people are involved this can be avoided. Why do people tend to distance themselves from it when in public eye? Why hide such a mind blowing concept(if it really is)??
E-mail me with whatever comments anybody might have.. I would definitely like to talk more about it.

Stop promoting crap buddy….Are you not going to add more members once you become a member? Then….stop saying that you are joining for the product and not the money. At least try and be honest to yourself.
Binary system may be better than pyramid scheme but at the end of the day both are scams. Being lesser evil than the other does not mean that its not an evil… π
Not everyone can afford 30k like you. So, feel sorry for those guys who going to lose it. A better use of your 30k will be to donate it to Bihar Relief Fund. There are good chances that the good wishes from people in Bihar will help you “max out” than from QN π
You claim that you dont know whether its a scam or not and even without researching properly you are investing in it. Thats really witty. Hats off to you.

Hey everyone ,, wakeup , not everyone got into the “stock market” in the same day. some people made good money there , some people were against the idea of stock market , some people are still against it , and some don’t even like the idea of buying ” numbers on a screen “. is QI a scam or not ( to be honest i donno ) but what i wanna say is a biniary system ( the on Qi is dealing with ) is way better than the prohibited ( pyrimidal system ) , and for all of you out there THEY ARE NOT THE SAME .
I’m thinking of joining that company, Financially i’m able to pay the 600 $ with no problems .. again i’m saying ” NO PROBLEM ” .
I feel sorry for those that have collected every single penne they got to JOIN this company and not BUY from it .
Guys it’s all about you ,and how you view that business . for me it’s a way to have fun , for others it’s a dream for life , and sadly a tragedy for the rest .
bottom line is , this company is selling a product , if you can’t afford it don’t buy it . go for the product , not the idea .

@Bond…very nicely said.
questnetters…..question for you.
If QN was simply selling these coins in the open market, would you have gone ahead bought these coins?…huh…
95% of you will say No.
You guys are simply becoming members and buying coins for one single reason…to become rich! QN is smartly operating by tapping human greed and you ppl are falling for it. There are very few numismatic collectors in this world. And there are way to many QN IRs in this world. What in the world makes you feel that you will get a super-duper price for your coin?
It is simply all make believe stuff. All crap, you will never ever get that 15 times the price that they tell you. At the end of the day you will be crying that you bought some overpriced crap.
If I’m a coin collector I would simply join QN and buy the coin for 33k rather than paying anyone else 15 times the price. Does that ring a bell??…
I know that each is a limited edition one…only 3000 in every batch if i’m not wrong. 99% of the members join thinking that they will sell the coin one day to recover the money if QN doesn’t click for them. Not many think of preserving the coin.
For a coin collector there 3000 ppl to choose from. For you to sell it, you have 2999 competitors…..hmmmm. You will surely get a good price still right?? π
Well done geniuses….
Just because you are already in that deep well, don’t make others jump into it. Learn from ppl like Chintan who realized his mistake and he is actively education ppl now to stay from piece of crap called QN.

Hi Siddharth,
I have also made the exact same observation about pro-quest net people. Although they are educated (some times up to post grad level) their replies are most of the time filled with “incorrect grammar and bad punctuation” as u have pointed out in your above post. They seem to have been clearly brain washed and they are of the opinion that mocking others and talking out loud with all the false information they get from the similar uplines will help them raise their self esteem. But if u see it from the psychology point of view i think the upliners have managed to hit the hammer at the right point. They would want the people to falsely assume that they are superior and if you see the most common arguement they present is always around point that other people are salaried and work for someone else. This may be true but this is the organisation structure. Assuming that this is a valid point and when presented with the arguement that if all the people in the world leave their job and join gold quest , Reality strikes in and they have to move to a totally different arguement. Now we can see how they are not able to defend what they talk. Sad thing is even though the arguement calls for a clear discussion they are willing to make points but when contradicted they always try to take help of the cheap trick of calling the anti-quest people as faliures. Come on man i think the way in which the arguements are structured itself suggests who is a true failure. If you just look at the posts where people have talked about personality development i bet one will laugh at the way they have posted the reply. To any sensible being the posts will definitely not motiviate to conclude that there is a well educated sensible and sound person posting such replies. What strikes first is the common charateristic of all such replies which is bundled with “is filled with incorrect grammar and bad punctuation.” .

Mohan I thank you for putting up this blog on Questnet. I myself have researched MLMs for the last two years since I was first approached to join Network 21 – The part that disturbed me the most was that the friends of mine (and they were really good friends) wanted me to put aside all my other ideas, hopes and dreams and to go around discussing ‘this wonderful oppurtunity’ whenever and wherever I got a chance. This set me thinking that this was akin to a cult mentality and sure enough it fulfilled all the 14 points on a list made by Dr. Langone on the following site. http://www.csj.org/infoserv_cult101/checklis.htm?
This is a series of questions which have been put together by a respected psychologist called Doctor Michael Langone which the U.S Federal government have used to define what is and what isn’t a cult. Could you please answer YES or NO to each of them in regard to the Questnet community?
1. The group is focused on a living leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.
2. The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.
3. The group is preoccupied with making money.
4. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
5. Mind-numbing techniques (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, debilitating work routines) are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
6. The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act, and feel (for example: members must get permission from leaders to date, change jobs, get married; leaders may prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, how to discipline children, and so forth).
7. The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s), and members (for example: the leader is considered the Messiah or an avatar; the group and/or the leader has a special mission to save humanity).
8. The group has a polarized us- versus-them mentality, which causes conflict with the wider society.
9. The group’s leader is not accountable to any authorities (as are, for example, military commanders and ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream denominations).
10. The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify means that members would have considered unethical before joining the group (for example: collecting money for bogus charities).
11. The leadership induces guilt feelings in members in order to control them.
12. Members’ subservience to the group causes them to cut ties with family and friends, and to give up personal goals and activities that were of interest before joining the group.
13. Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group.
14. Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members
On a personal note – My brother has joined Questnet sometime at the end of last year. I have noticed a change in him since then. He seems more distant and his eyes are glazed over and he constantly talks about money – about making money to follow his dreams. He makes fun of everybody else and the work we do – I’m a writer-filmmaker. He’s very evidently brainwashed and I have tried to talk to him several times but to no avail. He’s been to Malaysia recently for some summit that Questnet had, with a large group of colleagues from work. I have personally struck off all 14 points on this list based on watching and talking to him over the past 9 months – Yes he is in a cult. And No I don’t believe I can do anything for him anymore but accept him.
I know Questnet is a fraud because another friend of mine in Mumbai tried several years ago to get me involved in it but back then I just refused after pointing out that the ebay auction printout that she was showing me had NO bids on it and therefore was invalid as a confirmation that the coin would sell for a high amount to collectors. It’s ironic that they don’t even know that the word numismatics means ‘a study of old coins and seals’ – I have heard a dozen different definitions from people selling Questnet – all of which are wrong or twisted meanings of the same. It also strikes me as strange that I can never find a logical concise and well thought out reply from any body who is pro-Questnet. Most of their replies are mocking and defensive without actually giving a single well documented piece of information. All the information I have ever heard from Questnet people till today is hearsay – which means that their uplines have repeated it several times and they’ve parroted it the same way. It is also strange that every single reply I have heard from pro-Questnet people is filled with incorrect grammar and bad punctuation. Most anti-Questnet people (Most but not all) take the time to frame a decent argument and structure it so that they get their points across. Pro-Questnet people seem to follow the Mahesh Bhatt style of talking – that is ‘To Shout Very Loud Means You Are Right’. I feel that Questnet preys on people who have had an incomplete education – I don’t mean education as in schooling – There are plenty of people who have graduated and done post-grad courses and are in professional fields who have joined Questnet. But they are not educated because if they were, they would be more critically aware and take a lot of things into consideration before joining Questnet. It is obvious from the way all the pro-Questnet IRs have spoken that they have not really delved into the economics and laws behind Questnet, accepting whatever their upline has told them. I need say nothing more on these laws because they are self-evident if you thought about them or researched Questnet thoroughly before declining to join them.
I expect this shall elicit some more questions and some more reactions.. Bring it on..

@RAG,
Well i dint had to submit any document with it. If merchant really acknowledges the cancellation why would you have to go to Bank for dispute :)….Probably you can tell bank that this is the main reason tht you are going for dispute because you are not getting any response from QN.From my experience bank guys dont want to go for dispute usually….u need to push themm..it took me 5-6 days of calling them every day….
Do let us know how it goes…

Remand for MD Mrs. Pushpam appal naidu has been extended by warangal district court till aug 14th. It is a hidden truth that this business is a scam. Just that they have managed to exploit the loopholes in the law with a bit of sentiment attached to it to fool the near and dear ones.
There has to be an end for everystory and this is no different!

a) I am having the hard core proof that the Coin is pure 24K whether it’s 6g or 8g. Try to enquire the same coin with some of your friends in chennai. It’s pure 24K. I sold it for the present market rate only. We won’t use E-Bay in our presentations. Instead We will tell during presentation that “The 6g and 8g COIN are pure 24K carat. Silver coins will be the complement. Along with the production cost the product worth doesn’t exceeds 10,000”.
b) People created a wrong impression about E-bay as well as Numismatics. See if we want to sell this coin nobody will be willing to buy it, bcoz nobody knows what is Numismatic and Numismatic value. But somebody who knows it’s having numismatic value only will buy it. Where do we find that person? It’s very difficult and very very very very very rare. E-Bay just helps to look that person to sell that coin (Through it’s e-commerce portal) but no guarantee. 99.99% no guarantee.
Some people are trying to use E-Bay but not giving those informations. What’s happening is, immediatley after getting the coin From QuestNet some people put that coin in E-Bay and tried to Bid it?? Damn!!! How cum the bid will happen??? If anybody wants to sell through E-Bay he should wait for years. But E-Bay will charge each and evey day. It’s bull shit to use E-Bay while presentations. Nodoby can decide whether the coin got it’s Numismatic value or not. There are so many terms to define it. One of the Term is “Limited Edition”.
c) Bio-Disc is one product, one should feel it, how to use it, how to promote and only we should do it in Service Mode. Scrapping about Bio-
Disc is waste here. For more info about it go to http://www.amezcua.com. Now the crisis happens with COIN. In future there is prediction that huge crisis is going to happen with Bio-Disc too. Since it’s a wellness device it’s started creating crisis for the doctors and Other Herbel MLM’s particlualrly in Diabetics treatment.
