GoldQuest aka QuestNet gold scheme (some call it a scam) is the buzz that is taking rounds in Bangalore nowadays. Not that it hasn’t been around, but sounds like it has caught up once again. Last week one of my friend pulled me over for one such meeting where the talented marketers tried to convince me to enroll for this questnet business. I made an attempt to understand this is all about and how it works. After analyzing it thoroughly, it made me wonder how the so called ‘intelligent IT’ folks are falling prey for a vulnerable business model in which QuestNet is operating.
Let me write here on what I mean by vulnerable business model. To become a QuestNet ‘partner’ (business term), one needs to pay about INR 33k. By paying so, you become the privileged owner of a ‘Gold Coin’ of about 6 grams – this costs about INR 6k. They claim to have numismatic value for all the coins that they are giving away. I need to reiterate the actual meaning for numismatic here, refer to wikipedia for more information. Usually, gold coins get high value over a period of time – probably not in the life span of one generation. Also, I did a bit of search on EBay and other internet sites to figure out how much value these questnet coins can fetch. To my surprise, there were neither bidders nor any proof of a successful selling of such a coin. Now the net loss for an individual by becoming ‘business partner’ is INR 27k. Now they propose a multi level marketing (MLM) plan to make up your lost money. This goes something like this – Introduce a couple of people as partners and you attract a commission Rs 1916/- per head. Let us assume you introduced A & B. Now to reclaim your money in the form of commission, ask those 2 folks to introduce another 2 each – say A introduces A1, A2 and B gets in B1, B2. This sequence goes on to get your already paid partnership money in the form of a “Interest free commission”. There is a catch again, one need to keep introducing new people in the counts of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15…. in a group. If anyone fails on either side of the binary tree, progress halts. In turn this cuts short the money you have already paid. Now, let me put it in mathematical form.
This diagram (thanks to Wikipedia) represents what i have explained all this while. It is mathematically proved that the Number of nodes with two children is always less than half the total number of nodes – Well known as ‘Binary Tree Fact’. All the people who enter such a business model at the very early stages are the lucky ones. They will get to spread and introduce new ‘Partners’ to the chain. However, over a period of time this will reach the saturation level. This is very well shown in the diagram. If you observe the Blue circles, they are the one who joined in the early stages. They represent 11.8% percent of overall population while the circles indicated in Red counts to 88.1%. Hence the top 12% gets benefited from this kind of business model while the alarming 88% will be on the losing side. Think twice before you get in to this kind of businesses.
It is up to you to decide on whether you belong to profitable 12% or loss making 88% depending on how you take it to the next level. Why to become a fool by depositing your hard earned money with someone and they try to get it back by putting others in a fix? If you want to lose your friends and start looking at everyone including friends, relatives, co-workers etc., as targets, then this business is for you. Is this justified trap others to get back your own money in the form of commission? It will kill your good relationship with everyone around you, value of which cannot be quantified. No matter how much you make, you need people and time to enjoy in the society. Even in this material world, money is not everything. There is always life beyond making money, at least not at the cost of making others fools too. Think again.. do you really want to get in?

thanks a mil for this enlightining feedback, I always knew this company is nothing but a fraud, the first time I saw the presentation I knew its sheer waste of time, but unfortunately my husband who is invloved in this network is not understanding the whole real sitution of what he is doing and how much valuable time he is wasting on this stupid business, he refuses to see the reality, he is been convinced to do this malicious businees because of his sister’s persistence which is completely ruining my family life, I hope your accurate calculations will bring some sense into him to see the light of the day…thanks once again for all your efforts.

The info I provided is to contact your credit card Bank Customer care. Don’t do this with QN customer care. I think they are giving the reply like “We are receving several complaints on this. The upper management has to take some steps. Feel free to contact the Toll free number (Some number like this)”. And the status of CRF is in closed state. Even the copy paste information of your QN CRF is enough how much QN is resposnisbile to you. You can also take that copy holding how many irresponsible reply you got from QN CRF.
Then have a forceful talk with credit card customer care. This is the huge amount right so if you have all the support documents with you Bank will definitely steps. Applying through QN CRF is totally a waste of time for you becoz there is a huge pressure on QN from all sides. IRs won’t be patient enough for the QN response.

Hey Guys…here is some info on credit card chargebacks..I agree with X-Men that you will need to show frustration to bank execs…Surprisingly lot of bank employees are not aware of it as well…it took me lot of efforts to convince them..note that even after you apply for dispute it takes lot of time, in my case more than 45 days to get result.

Thanks for your understanding buddy. I think you missed out “The MD and the Top one networker in India came out in “bail”. Unless and until the case don’t get over they won’t move any where”. The rest of the people who were properly released are the employees (5 Memebers) aressted along with MD.

Ya!! The amount will be credited to the merchant within maximum 5 days if weekends will be included. Disturb the customer care regularly. Have the following documents with you .
1)IR Purchase receipt with you where the Date of purchase will be mentioned.
2) Have the terms and conditions be logging to the site http://www.quest.net—>IR Login –> Shop Now –> choose any product —> Terms and conditions hyperlink. There it’s mentioned “The product will be reaching you within you within 90 days”.
3) The proofs of the customer service of the merchant irresponsibilities (Ex: Contact numbers, Address of QN in chennai, Some news reg cases).
After that call to HDFC customer care and talk with more frustruation and force them to raise the Charge Back Or dispute. They will tell you “They need to enquire case against QN according to the documents you provided and if found it’s not favour of you they will provide some charges. If found it’s in favour of you they will immediately credit”. This will be done by the maximum force you are giving to them out of frustuation. Mention the point that “I am contacting almost a long time for this problem while in the call with customer care and force them”. While forcing they definielty know your frustration about your past call chats. They will definitely take steps.

Bank has debited amount from my card and deposited to merchant account.
Now how can they deposit the money back in my account without debiting the merchant’s account without their approval. And this debit-deposit happens in the 4-5 days of purchase date.

In My HDFC card only the transaction happened on January 2008 and I disputed and got the amount credited back by September. They told me the transaction must be within one year. They credited back all the amount including financial and interest charges. Customer care don’t know anything about it. How they expect from the merchant side if the merchant doesn’t respond? Give the merchant (QN) contact no. HDFC bank is really genunine in that. Force your concerns repeatedly to customer care. They will definielty credit you the amount.
I am not glorify out anything here. Some people who used credit cards may be started got the money through disputes. What about some people who loggined through e-Cards if they want the money back or even their products?? They should know wht’s the status of QI to screw. I am just helping out whoever needs some favour. If u don’t like please be behind, atleast the information may be useful for some others who wants to screw QI.

And yeah as others pointed out, you wil need to push real hard to bank…it took me 2 weeks to convince bank guys. And if you havent received the product u have better chances…i would say 100%….Also mention to bank that your are not getting any response from QN so cannot resolve directly with merchant….good luck..

Even I hav got amount credited back. But, i think it depends on bank people also. Few banks accept it(like HSBC, StanChat), but its really tough to convince ICICI plus Citi bank people.
They would tell “Dispute can’t be approved after 3 months, it should have done within 3 months” . They also tell you to get feed back info from merchant.

Good way is keep calling credit card people and give follow ups. It took me nearly 2 months(I used to call atleast 5-6 times a week). Tell them “Mercahnt is NOT responding and company is under court case “. Keep bugging them.
And one more info, transactions which are done after mid-May have not gone to QN. So all such transactions are credited back to card after May.

Here are some of the informations at present in QI group in India. All the people except MD who were aressted where properly released. The MD and the Top one networker in India came out in bail. Unless and until the case don’t get over they won’t move any where. All QN networkers who earned before the crisis, got their Form 16 A through courier from chennai office. There are three offices in chennai itself. Two in chetpet and One V-office somewhere around in TTK road. At present the main office is sealed. Don’t know about other two offices. Well if I know it I will pass on the information. Then screw them whatever you like.

It’s not like the transaction should be within 90 days. It must be for maximum one year. The customer care will trap you and pretend like there is no such thing. I done the charge back from Standard Chartered, HDFC and Citibank for some illegal transaction happened in my card by January 2008 for around 5000 rs in USD and I screwed the customer care of bank and got the money credited in my credit card. There must a point in the dispute form mentioning “The merchant didn’t deliver the product on time as promised.”. You have to mention it to the customer care forcefully. The customer care pretends like “It should be done from the merchant end”. Note that, Only for cancelling the order you have to call the merchant. Even if the merchant is not responding means, you have to force the customer care to get the charge back mentioning “The merchant is not responding”. Give them the merchant contact info also. Even you have to play some tricks while calling the customer care. So do it fast.

Chintan, Questnet or Goldquest people are smart enough to fool all of us. In the initial agreement, it is very clear that you need to wait for 90 days to get your gold coin. By then anyways, even banks can’t help because you are over that 3 months period to apply for merchant pay back. So we are trapped in all possible ways. Nobody can beat them legally. They know all the loopholes and they have deviced their policies to cover all of them.
Hard luck but they have outsmarted you though!
