After a long time visited this restaurant called ‘Mainland China’ near Indiranagar flyover (of-course in Bangalore) recently. It was a friday and its not my first time here, probably 4th visit. I have always enjoyed the food here in the past and hence we chose this place for lunch. Somehow missed to review this restaurant in my blog and hence here it comes :). One more addition to ‘Explore Bangalore‘ series!
Though it is less than a kilometer from our office, we were fully packed in two cars. The restaurant provides valet parking and never faced an issue with parking there though it is right next to the fly over. We had a prior booking for 15 people, because of which we didn’t waste any time waiting for the table. Ambiance has been great as usual. Very nice cozy place when it comes to interiors. The best thing about this restaurant is they take care of your personal preference to find you right place to separate out smoker and non-smoker groups since this place is spread in 3 floors including ground floor. This is the first time we were offered a table in second floor! This floor isn’t that great when compared to ground and first floor interiors.
I have always enjoyed the variety of soups here. Since we had opted for a buffet lunch, hot and sour chicken soup was served this time and it was good as usual. However, my veggie friends were not that happy with Sichuan Hot And Sour Soup since it was too spicy. Starters included a variety of both veg and non veg dimsums followed by spring rolls. As usual some delicacies made of baby corn, potatoes, mushrooms, broccoli and other vegetables. Non veg starters include chicken pieces soaked and fried in chilly sauce and lamb meat balls. The quality and taste of food has certainly deteriorated over time. I wasn’t that impressed with food this time.
Main course spread was just one variety each for fried rice and noodles. Though the non veggies had a variety of gravy options, the same wasn’t true for veggies. When a one of our friend got fed up of the variety and asked for ‘curd rice’ in a Chinese restaurant! However, the desserts were good which I like the most :). Looks like the waiters realized the fact that we weren’t that happy with main course and hence he bought ice creams specially for us! The price has gone up to 350/- per head from 230/- a year back, at the same time taste and varieties have taken inverse trend. Probably, I wouldn’t visit/recommend this place if you are taking along any guests. My rating would 3/5 with the current state of functioning.

Mohan, not sure if you’re still doing this Bangalore series, but one place that you really have to check out is Tasty Tangles, at UB city! I’ve done a review if you want test the waters.

Hi, I am personally not fond of buffet food as it is recycled and tossed around quite a bit. But buffets makes sense when you are going in an office group. A buffet that I really like is Global Fusion’s at Mumbai where you have live sushi, dumpling, teriyaki, tempura and teppenyaki counters along with the traditional stuff
Mohan says
Thanks for the info about Global Fusion! certainly try out that place on my next visit to Mumbai.

I have visited MainLand China twice and found the veg food(since I am a veggie) really awesome along with ambience. Service is really good. I didn’t gone for buffet there anytime and not sure about that. I would recommend trying veg hot n sour soup along with chilli qualiflower for starter and exotic vegetables in clay pot and noodles for main course. DO try this out…yummy….

Thats nice to know! May be my selection of buffet lunch was a bad option. Will keep your suggestion in mind when I visit there next time. Thanks for your inputs.

Thanks for the advice.. I prefer to write it on my own blog than contributing the content to someone else. Thanks for visiting and your comment.

I have heard from other people that the food isn’t necessarily very authentic chinese. Since I don’t each much of Chinese food, can’t comment and the waiters were very knowledgeable and gave excellent advice on spiciness etc., They helped us to choose a very enjoyable main course. The drinks service was a bit slow. Overall a very pleasant meal in very nice surroundings. My suggestion is don’t go for buffet lunch/dinner here :), instead order food of your own choice and you will enjoy for sure.
Mohan says
Yeah.. sounds logical. I have experience better quality when we don’t opt for buffet π Thanks for your inputs.
