BITS pilani : Pursuing higher studies

I am happy to announce that I have joined BITS pilani to pursue my higher studies. Starting this 19th, my weekends would be productively invested towards achieving my postgraduatation. I have been approved to take admission into MS programme in Software Engineering from this premiere institute.

The duration of this course is 2 years (4 semesters) and it is being offered in collaboration with my employer Yahoo!. This is one more benefit that yahoo is offering to its employees starting this year. I am preveliged to be in the very first batch of such a collaborative program. Classes will be conducted in the office premises during weekends. It may be a bit difficult to manage work, studies and personal life. Thanks to my family members who have pledged support to realize my dream of getting masters from a renowed institution. Wish me all the best 🙂

      • There is no cut-off criteria Sachin. But there are two conditions in applying for this: 1. atleast one year experience in your working organization and 2. suitable mentor having 5 years experience or holding a master’s degree.

        If you are planning to apply, i would insist you do it asap as the last date for the receipt of application is June 5th, 2012

      Dont know what value does it add. But still if you want to do M.S. from Indian Universities i think this is one among the best universities.

  12. Oh i have the same doubt about the print/write thing. I am thinking of typing it because only then it comes within a single page (which saves page).
    Experience letter can be original if it is easy to get the letter from your organisation. Else, its better to send a colour photocopy of it.

    • okay. And how about attestation? Should it be done only for degree certificates/marks cards or each and every documnet we send them? i mean the resumes, write up’s, experience letter???

      I have completed the filling of forms, except for one where the write-up is required.

          • Sheetal, attestation is required only for certificates. Nothing else requires attestation.

    • Hi Abhay,
      One of my colleague in my company is doing the course.
      He said that mentor does not have any particular role.
      But it would be good if you keep somebody who is well qualified from your organiztion itself.

    I am Working in a Private Concern in Chennai, I am Planning to do MS(Retail Management) Plz anyone tell me when they will give application for this Course and where can i get? Incase of any links plz share it…

    • I had read is some blog that it is not AICTE approved.
      If you are going for PhD then, u should do it from the same institution.
      Not sure its as per a blog.

        Yes,you are right.The course is not AICTE approved and you wont be able to pursue PhD from all Govt. Colleges.Only few colleges will accept this degree particularly pvt. colleges.Even I have 5+ yrs of exp. and I was also planning to pursue M.S from BITS,Pilani.But later I dropped my idea.I am looking out for M.S/M.Tech course which won’t create any hindrance in my PhD. degree in future.

        • 2 yrs back I discussed the same with BITs people over phone. They agreed that other institutes will not allow PhD after MS from Bits pilani as these courses are not UGC approved. But they said that we can do PhD from BITs Pilani itself after this course. I dropped the idea of doing MS from BITS Pilani then 🙁
          I would suggest do MS/MTech Part time or MCA from IGNOU which is UGC Approved, and in parallel prepare for UGC NET.

          • I am not sure how is IGNOU’s PhD. My intend is to say that do MTech/MCA in order to get the base degree and to study the subjects required for NET. Once you are through, you can pursue PhD from any good institute.
            There are some colleges/universities like BITS Mesra (some extention centres like Noida), Manipal Univ, Some small Govt Univ also which offer part time MTech/MCA.

  37. Vidya, Admissions will start in April for 1st semester MS SS. Keep watching the BITS website for announcement. Also there will be another set of admission happens in September for the same MS SS.

    I am willing to do MS in Software Systems in correspondence fro BITS .
    Can you please tell me usually when the admission procedure starts for 1st semester M.S. Software Systems. I am unable to get the clear idea when i checked this link, could you pls help me out in this.

    • Vidya, Admissions will start in April for 1st semester MS SS. Keep watching the BITS website for announcement. Also there will be another set of admission happens in September for the same MS SS.

  49. Sir, I have applied a postal identity card in the last week of January 2012 and verification by nearest postal authority have also been completed and everything is ok. But, till now
    I have not heared / received my card from them. If anybody can let me know if there is any website where I can enquire my id card status. Awaiting reply from anybody.
