BITS pilani : Pursuing higher studies

I am happy to announce that I have joined BITS pilani to pursue my higher studies. Starting this 19th, my weekends would be productively invested towards achieving my postgraduatation. I have been approved to take admission into MS programme in Software Engineering from this premiere institute.

The duration of this course is 2 years (4 semesters) and it is being offered in collaboration with my employer Yahoo!. This is one more benefit that yahoo is offering to its employees starting this year. I am preveliged to be in the very first batch of such a collaborative program. Classes will be conducted in the office premises during weekends. It may be a bit difficult to manage work, studies and personal life. Thanks to my family members who have pledged support to realize my dream of getting masters from a renowed institution. Wish me all the best 🙂

      Last date for application in April 2012 was 31 October, 2011. Probably in March or April, they will be commencing new batch. Keep checking BITS PILANI or send them an email.

  6. Hi I m nagavalli..i have completed b.tech nd having about one year of experience in IT ..I want to know the details of MS distance education program including papers, fee structure, Classes, and how can we approach and where exams will be conducting, etc..all those details.

  8. hi..i’m a BE Graduate and hv been workin in TCS fr the past 1.6 yrs. i want to join MS SS in BITS as distance education. i heard like admission in April 2012. is it so? can anyone provide me the details? or am i too late fr the course?? if not wat are the things to be done by me? appreciate ur help on this..

    • Sheetal, Its always depends on the company where you work. not everyone company recognizes your career growth. Apply for april 2012, but frankly speaking MS SS is a good course, not because i am into it…

    Is it worth doing MS from BITS pilani sponsored by Tech mahindra along with doing the job in TechM , or shall i go for a regular MBA. I am a BSc graduate(Comp Appl, maths).
    I am very confused as some say its good and others say Its not.

  13. Hi ,
    I am registering for my 4th semester dissertation , I have already sent my registration card with the DD with out Outline and Evaluation Sheet. Latter i got a chance to go through the instruction which said “Registration Cards without duly completed Outline and Evaluation Sheet will not be considered for Registration.”

    What do i do know ? have any one gone through this before ?

    • Employer consent form signed by your new employer. Also you may need to get the new mentor form filed. Visit WILPD website for more information

  16. This shouldn’t be a problem and no need of Gazette certificate for Expanding the initials. Only if there is any Spelling or entire name change, you need Gazette certificate to prove yourself for admission. In your case, no gazette certificate required. Go ahead and apply in April’12. All the best

    I’ve a query. I’m intending to join the MSSS this April 2012. starting from my 10th certificate, till my BTech certificate the name in all being ‘Arjun A’. After joining my employer organization, i was asked to expand the initial which then became to ‘Arjun Arippa’, though this is not my official name. all the official records have ‘Arjun A’ only. do i need to produce any certificate to prove the same?

    Gazetted certificate will take around 6-8 months to reflect in all my certificates. plz help me

    • This shouldn’t be a problem and no need of Gazette certificate for Expanding the initials.     2.If i dont have the eligibility, what else can i pursue?

    • Hi there,
      I think you already have MBA degree. I dont see any point in going for another master degree. What i would say you could have a look at certification based on your skill set. If i were you i would have done certifications that would have been helpful.

    • Hi there,
      I think you already have MBA degree. I dont see any point in going for another master degree. What i would say you could have a look at certification based on your skill set. If i were you i would have done certifications that would have been helpful.

        1. what and all study materials will they provide to us? Any idea?
        2. And will there be any live classes?
        3. What about books? I think we have to take it on our own.
        4. I heard from my seniors that there will be open book tests….
        any info on how many tests are open book test?

    plz don’t go for the same!
    If taking DD, commission is only 115/-
    Go ahead & swasth raho!

    Did anyone get the Fee status through????
    Also, do we have to give any certificates for Giving proof towards NAME & SPELLING?

    • Yes i am able to see my fee paid status and got my bits login id too.Yes you need give those proof if you have any name changes in your certificates..

    1. Attested copy of Degree certificate.
    2. Relevant documents for correct name & spelling
    3. Copy of Net banking receipt.

    my company is nt sponsoring me for MS as they are a small organisation..
    what are my chances of the application getting approved..i have a good acad throughout..
    do they accept appliactions from only the top MNCs??
    n what if my mentor is from outside the organisation..?

    It would be helpful if somebody tell me that there is an option to pay 45000/- tuition fee for BITS offline course in 2 installments!!!

    Or

    Can I apply for the Student loan? If yes, What bank would be preferable?

    Sometimes, 45000/- would be so burden to pay in single installment especially some one like me!!! 🙁

      Congrats to those who have received the offer letter, more so as my application had been rejected couple of times in the past. Once as it didnt reach on time and once due to higher cut-off. I have applied this time too but the current status suggests me to check after 20th Nov. Anyone on this forum with this status message??
      @Rakesh @Poobalan @Guru @Sum when did your application reach BITS and when did you receive the admission offer? I think they are processing the application on a first come first serve basis.

      • This is the first time i am applying MS SS in BITS and also i don’t have good academic marks. I think they give weight-age to mentor qualification,exp and our exp, organization where we work like that. Not First Come First Basis for sure. Because i sent in fisrt flight on OCT 29th Saturday and it reached OCT 31st Monday last date.

    I think no need of gazetted officer attestation. if so, they would have mentioned some where in the admit offer for sure. For applying i did self attestation for all docs. So i am gonna do self attestation this time too…

      • 1. Final degree certificate photocopy with attestation and copy of payment receipt.
        2. Its UGC approved.No AICTE. But its NAAC approved. http://discovery.bits-pilani.ac.in/accreditation.html

        3. I think this is the only way we can do MS at the time of working from most recognized institute. And also not that much of burden in exams. Plus the degree certificate will be same like the regular bits MS course. So its worth paying.

        So anyone any thoughts?

          For me my company is not sponsoring for this.
          I have 2 doubts…
          1. If i leave my current employer say after 6 months, how will this affect my MS course? Is it mandatory to give consent form from the next employer? Will i need my mentors signature or companies seal or sign later?
          2. You said like the certificate will be same as regular MS from BITS. So don’t they mention like Distance education or something? I think they put WILP program in our degree certificate. what you say???

            2.”The degree one gets through DLP, is the same as what one would have got if he/she had studied full time at BITS, Pilani. Atleast my certificate does not mention anything about distance learning. Its a normal M.S degree in Software Systems. ” One of my friends Quote ..

    • You are not eligible for phd in any engineering college. Try Phd in any Science, Commerce or Arts Field. OR Complete your Masters in an engineering field before you apply.

  45. Hi I got admission offer letter from BITS. 🙂
    Now i have to pay fee amount.
    Do anyone have idea when is the last date to pay the fees?
    And guys, the amount that we are paying is it really worth for this course?
    Total fee will come around 1.35 lacs.
    And is BITS UGC recognised?

        Did you just check that this time along with the acceptance of the admission letter we need to send again the attested copy of the highest degree certificate.I don’t know why again and again they are after this.I believe it is not self attested right? it should be via gazetted officer attested .what do u say

          • BITS course is not AICTE approved since they are a Deemed university. The government rule says only non universities (or institutes not affiliated to any university) need AICTE approval to certify that they are fit to give degrees. BITS has been one of the premier institutions of India from 1979 and they don’t require this approval to prove they are the best.

          • Yes you are correct.!!
            They are processing application based on first come first serve basis. They do reject applications based on eligibility criteria. My friend @Sum had got offer letter on 10th Nov. I got on 13th Nov.
            lets hope yours will be sooner. Don’t worry, always there will be alternatives. 😉
