The greater Bengalooru blues continue as the transport strike is on. No trucks, tempos and other ‘Yellow Board’ vehicles are moving in the city. That probably explained why it was such a pleasure driving yesterday and today. Its been years since I had come on my own vehicle to office, thanks to my current & ex-employers! Both Yahoo! and Dell had given me transport facility through their cabs to commute to office. Since the strike is on, all the cab services have been stopped and that made me ride on my own to office.
The bone of contention here is a Government order that requires transport vehicles to install speed governors in their vehicles. This has been done to essentially ensure that these guys don’t speed inside city limits. They contend that private vehicles need to have governors as well and that they are being victimized. This is like saying “We’ll drive the way we want to. So what if a few accidents happen”. The government tried to introduce this last year, but the threat of a strike forced them to hold off. They reintroduced it now and the same result. They should not budge. Trucks, Buses, and Taxis cause the most accidents in the high density Bangalore roads.
Hope the people on stir understand the governments intent behind this ordinance and ensure the basic commodity prices doesn’t skyrocket, which in turn affects a common man like me!
