Aircel has entered Karnataka mobile circle recently. Aircel a subsidiary of Malaysian telecom major Maxis and already has strong foothold in east and north eastern Indian states. This company is known for cut-throat competition in providing various attactive features and bill plans. If you are still not able to associate this company, they are the main sponsorors of ‘Chennai Super Kings’ cricket team of Indian Premier League(IPL). They have already proved that they are the leaders in mobile operations in Tamil nadu and are spreading to other cellular circles since DoT approved the license for them to operate across many states in India.
Though I have no major complaints about Airtel which I have been using for over 6 years now, I am enticed to switch over to Aircel because of their competitive plans for both prepaid and postpaid subscriptions. Each of the plan comes with an attractive SMS package as well. If customer is not satisfied with that, there are top up options for a max of Rs 50/- available too. Not just that, at least their television commercial is promoting Yahoo! OneSearch, which is priced very high on Airtel. Aircel is also offering a number of ‘Value Added Services’ which are mentioned here. GPRS services include various maps provider options including Yahoo! local, Google, MapQuest, etc., at attractive browsing charges of 10paisa/10 Kb. Other prominent features include ‘Missed Call Alert’ – this lets you know who called you when your mobile was switched off or out of coverage area, and ‘Caller Ring Back Tone’ option for a selective group of numbers .
Keeping aside all the positive stuff, my concern prevails with respect to change in mobile number if I switch over. Come 1st Augst ’09, when all the mobile service providers in India are set to provide interoperability of existing number even when the mobile service provider is switched over. Since Aircel is new in this circle, not sure about the voice quality… that is another thing to look out for! Any suggestions or comments from Aircel customers here?

I am sure, they would have stabilized all these years and that seem to be the reason why they are foraying in to multiple circles in India. What ever may be the case is, customer will have more choices to select the best that matches budget.
@sumit
Sorry, but I don’t have that information handy at this point of time. I shall update it here as soon as I get some pointers to it.

In Chennai Aircel took years to introduce GPRS Service while all other operators had introduced it long back. What about roaming when an Aircel subscriber goes to northern states without Aircel coverage
