After the initial post on the lost mobile and a sequence of challenges there after to obtain an FIR (First Investigation Report) from police, here comes the remaining experience. Thanks to Sanjay again for taking time to provide an update even while he is on vacation due to the enormous amount of response that was shown in the previous article.
When I went to Sangeetha mobile store near JC road (Insurance guys sits here) to submit document, I came to know that the police receipt i have, is just an acknowledgement stating my mobile is missing and this was not sufficient for mobile costing 15k and above. I had to submit FIR else my claim will be rejected and also I had to submit all document within 7 days of incident.
I went to Police station again asking for FIR and was simply rejected by the Sub Inspector. I had a feeling that it may take more than a week to get a FIR so I spoke to insurance guys and mailed them asking them more time to submit documents (I did so because that mail can be used as proof later on to convince the legal authorities that I requested for more time to get FIR).
After all these hiccups, decided to find a contact/email of any Police officer at commissioners office (COP) and submit a complaint against that inspector who denied the issuance of FIR. Searched internet a lot and found that I can file an FIR online as well as complaint against police too. We can even reach out to them up on their helpline numbers too.
Here is a piece of information which I think people in Bangalore should know:
1. Bangalore city Police Information Website – http://bcp.gov.in/ or http://www.ksp.gov.in/
2. Commissioner Office contacts: 22942222, Control Room for general information (this was helpful to me) and more contacts are available here
3. Commissioner of Police Email ID – cpbangalore@rediffmail.com
4. What is FIR, here is a good article to understand
5. Place to file FIR/Complaint against Police Online (links at the end of page) – http://www.ksp.gov.in/fir/
I called up commissioner office next day and told them that FIR is not lodged, they asked me to come office in person to seek more details. As always, we need to run behind the govt officials giving up all our work. Not sure when they will start working as PUBLIC SERVANTS. I went there, found that at reception one needs to inform the concern of and accordingly they will tell you where to go. Told them that I was suggested to come here and write a complaint against police in person (they had a laughing look at me), anyway they took a photo of me and gave a visitor id with photo and told me to go to a particular room. I met a person named Mr. Nagraj there and he told me that the complaint can be written against Inspector only as he will be held responsible for it even if sub-inspector has denied it. He asked me to go there again and ask Inspector and Inspector only, he gave me his name and number too from his contact list. I was bit relieved here and immediately went to police station and asked for Inspector. Upon enquiry found that he was on leave till 18th to my bad. I called up Mr. Nagraj again and informed him about the situation. He told me to wait till Inspector comes and check he is not willing to accept the complaint and issue an FIR. Then only I can write complaint against the police inspector.
Now I was in bit strange situation as I had planned a vacation to go to my native on 18th and was on vacation for rest of the next week, so I decided to postpone my flight to Sunday to meet Inspector on Saturday (He was back on duty after vacation on 19th June, Saturday). I went Saturday morning and informed Inspector about the whole story and he asked me to provide him a copy of mobile bill with my mobile no and phone’s IMEI number and wait for a week and two, they will try to trace my mobile. I was surprised to hear this as this lethargic behavior wasn’t what I was expecting. I told him that submission date is max 7 days from the date of incident to claim the insurance and I need the FIR immediately. Somehow he got ready to trace me mobile till Monday 21st June or will issue an FIR instead. I told him that I will be out of station on Sunday which was already a rescheduled program because of Inspector’s vacation!!. He agreed to pass on the FIR to my brother in my absence.
So further, instead of stretching my story, in short – my brother got FIR on Tuesday 22nd June with an agreement that if Mobile is found by them later, it will be used by them for their official purpose, which I agreed :).

I too had a bad experience of theft of my mobile phone. This happens at Roopena Agarahara(Silk Board Area), Bangalore, October 2016 at 8PM . The modus of operandi was carried out by group of 3 people, they were well dressed and not look like thief’s. In my case I was entering the bus two guys blocked from behind as if they are struggling to get inside the bus. The third guy behind them took the mobile from my trouser pocket and immediately I started searching the pockets of the two people behind, by the time third person walk away from the foot board of the bus, I jumped out of bus but unfortunately I missed him. Immediately I requested passerby to dial my number, it was picked and the person asked me to come near the bus stand. It was for misleading. I went to police station that night and produced the bill and IMEI of the phone and requested for FIR but they refused to do so and given Acknowledgment. I need a compliant registration for two reason.
1. If the phone is used for illegal purpose ( terrorism)
2. 69 years of layman’s hope about our police force.
That night I did not sleep and started my own way of finding the phone, I started calling to the number multiple time I could find the phone was switched on , I used Android Device manager , phone locating/locking/erasing software’s and I could able to locate the phone near to the KR market area . Next day I went to that area started locating it, but there were hell lot of stolen mobile shops and hell lot of stolen items, it was very difficult to trace it down without the help of a legalized security agencies as these robbery / selling is done in gang and they are the end node of that network. No one will suffer for long, of not getting help from the security/law enforcing agencies, not getting a peaceful Society to live for. There will be an end for these atrocities in some means!.

Hi mohan, This is hariprasad from Whitefiled, I lost my mobile in PG accomadation in Rajplaya. I hope luck only may help you .You follow up that SI .If they found any thief with mobile phones you may get .(95 % it is not possible). Police guys can trace based on SIM or IMEI number but they do not .They may trace mobile based on serious issues like missing ,murder ,rape . I do not know why they dont care about theft. ):
One of my roommate used to go to office at morning shift 6-00 AM, after that we did not lock the door on that Monday .The thief came to my PG at early morning 6-20 to 6-40 AM while we were sleeping. He has not taken any Laptop or wallet or other valuables. he stolen only 3 mobile phones costly around 45,000. We filed complaint at near police station (Mahadevapura). But he has given only a reciept not FIR number ): .We complained to SI with SIM numbers and IMEI numbers, i know it is helpless to me. ): That receipt will be helpful to block the sim or take a new SIM with same Number .So it will not be helpful to find my mobile. My PG workers are also not caring about new entry guys. The PG is not having any CCTV cameras. Now they are planning to fix CCTV.Anyway i lost my “iPhone 4S” . I could not buy such a Costly Phone again .

Dear first you file a complaint in nearby police station where your mobile has lost …. demand for FIR to this case otherwise they (police) will just give you a aknowledegement sheet to make you fool. Note whether police files FIR properly mentioning the IMEI in it or not. Finally I like to say Its all in the hands of police… they are motherfuckers cocksuckers… will never do investigation in such cases unless you exclatate it to higher authority….. police are also mainly included in such robbery activities without their help the theft cant stole our things and properties

Sir,
Even if you spend more money than the cost of your mobile, You will not get the mobile back. Thank god for not insuring your mobile, as you have saved Rs.500 at least. Next time you buy a costlier mobile, Make sure, you keep it carefully. That’s the one & only solution.

Today i lost My blackberry Curve With so much of relevant & important data at ITPL & i am sure there is gang of pickpockets well versed with crowed buses & they push & get down at next stop. By the time you realise it could be too late. These Volvos are not safe any longer. As you thinks this is very comfortable journey with educated well behaved citizens. But It has become soft targets for these gangs. After reading all this not feeling to go to police as no result will come & I will feel more embrassment.
My learning is to take care of important things & not to enter crowded buses.

Azhar. I agree with u. the same case happened with me yesterday at Agra junction. These guys are having good unity and union. They stolen my new samsung galaxy s worth 25,000/-. They were 3 people. I promise next time if i would see any of them i would change their face-maps.
Viswa says
Hi Guys,
I too had the same experience as Azhar. I caught one of the culprit when I lost my Samsung Galaxy Tab worth Rs.26k but unfortunately the other member in his gang ran away with my tablet in front of my eye. I handed over the culprit to HAL police station but no action were taken by police so far. I was not able to see the culprit after two days in police station. I don’t know what happened to him. Police informed me that they send him to court jail on logging a FIR complaint in other case which was not disclosed to me so far.
Now a days I was able to find some culprit coming in the bus and alert other passengers.
I lost my hope with police as they were legal culprits with uniform. I don;t know what to do next but still trying my best to get back my tablet.

HI Mohan,
What is the climax? Yseterday my NOKIA X6 mob was stolen “Oh, it is wrong term”, Ok here we go, it was lost. I have Theft Insurance from Univercell and In univercell website, it is mentioned that i should submit FIR and Non Traceable Certificates. My question is that after doing all that, did the insurance company pay him 75% of mob price? or was he ripped off? Also, Please advise me if filing the FIR and going through all the hassles to get NON TRACEABLE certificate is worth doing or should i forget my phone and start concentrate on my work?
Thanks,

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the information about various police sites. Someone pick pocketed my Nokia E71 in volvo bus on 24 January 2011. I have given a written complaint in HSR Police Station and got a receipt for the same. They insisted me to write that I have LOST my mobile rather than stolen. I am not sure if that is the FIR or I need to get any further letter from the Police Station.
Note that the link for filing FIR online is not working. I tried doing that.
Thanks,
Regards,
Dileep
Mohan says
Well the same story repeats with everyone. Police would always try to prove that you lost it rather than some one stole it.
Prashant says
Hell, the same happened with me. Police inspectors asked me to write an application of missing/lost forcefully rather than stolen.

Hi Mohan,
Our police officers are one the best in world. I dont think any other country has such police officers. They are wow factors. When you go to give complaint they will question you and treat you as if your criminal.

abhi says
Hi Karthik. How to file FIR online? Even I lost my mobile. please help
Mahesh says
“agreement that if Mobile is found by them later, it will be used by them for their official purpose”! Surprising! How can they do that? Is it legal to do so? Doesn’t the mobile phone belong to the insurance company if they already paid you for the lost one?
Santosh says
Isnt the FIR process automated now in Bangalore? Dont they give a print out of the FIR request now?
Suneel says
The police in Bangalore claim that they have received ISO awards but when it comes to serving the people who pay their salaries, they stand back and watch the show with their hands tied to their asses.
I had similar kind of situation when my friend lost his mobile on Jan 1st, 2009. It was an excruciating experience and I didn’t leave the station until I got a written notice that they have received the complaint and issued a request number, which went down the drain when we contacted them again after a week to know the status.
They said that they lost a file which might have my complaint and asked us to write down the story again. I cursed them on their faces for their behaviour and got scoffed off the premises 🙂
