When I was on vacation last month, I was provided with a Reliance Netconnect BroadBand+ USB data card to stay connected if required for office related works. Past few years have brought in a dramatic technological advancements into the internet connection industry. I have been growing with the bulky *dial up* modems during college days to tiny usb data cards like this one till date. When I got broadband connection at home from BSNL in the initial days of broadband launch, Huweii broadband *wireless* router was not only less bulky, but the speed of 2mb just amazed me. Wouldn’t that happen when you get an upgrade from a dial up connection with a max speed of 56kbps to 2mbps? But now the time has changed to bring in the mobility factor! A small USB data card like the one shown below can operate at 3.1mb!
The Reliance Netconnect BroadBand+ worked great in multiple cities and villages too during my vacation. They have some 35+ cities that operate on Reliance HiSpeed (HSD) network while the rest of villages and towns all over India can operate on Hispeed 1x mode. It is advisable to leave the modem to operate on ‘Hybrid’ mode which auto switches to appropriate mode without having to go through connection disruption. If you are looking for Wireless Mobile broadband, this product from Reliance is arguably the best in India as of now. I wasn’t worried about the data plan or the cost since it was provided to me on a temporary basis since I was on the go.
But if you are planning to buy this, it will cost you about Rs 3500/- for the device and you have options to chose from various data plans which start at Rs 299/- per month. Depending on your usage pattern you can again opt for either of prepaid or post paid tariff plans. Since they have a wide network across India, this would be a very handy device for people who travel a lot and wants to stay connected on their notebooks. Installation of the device and setting up was a matter of seconds and can be used on Windows and Mac OS X platforms. In my case it was seamless with Leopard OS on MacBook Pro.
Reliance broadband is much more reliable and better when compared with Tata Indicom data cards. I had a terrible experience with Tata’s service earlier this year. Glad to see things moving in the right direction to access Internet irrespective of location – i.e., rural or urban India 🙂

Worst service and worst customer care support. Reliance is wellknown for changing their plans as per their convienance, rite now they are upgrading to 4G and its compulsory servive from reliance. Current users should brought new dongle from reliance which costs 899 to 2699 even though Reliance unable to provide 2G speed
I recommend not to go for RELIANCE for anything sim card, netconnect everything is worst.

what a speed! hands off to reliance netconnect plus

Worst Customer service ever!
customer service had been terribly misleading and not helpful. I have been using TATA photon and they have never spoken to me like the way reliance customer service do, specially your Managers.
Firstly I had a wrong bill generated for 3 months. Finally when I decided to forget fighting about it and just finish paying and settling my account when your representative contacted me. Then the agency guy Jitender from reliance came and told us that after all the adjustments and discounts our bill is 1100 and we instantly gave him a cheque. Even after 1 week the internet did not work and no notification recieved. When I contact your customer service they are rude and just keep telling me pay the balance of Rs 568 without understanding the situation and listening to me. They told me that whoever told us the bill is 1100 is misleading. Thats Amazing? It was your agency guy, not us. Then when we spoke to the He was also not aware that there is an IVR system to make payments. Is your company so just policy centric or are there robots. No customer service skills. Called 10 times and horrible services
When we asked for a manager they told us they cant connect us to a manager. Wow! What an organization? This guy name was Satnam and his immediate boss refused to give us his name also, clearly said that they cannot help us. The worst part was they had no ettiquets to talk to a customer and they made the entire experience extremely frustrating. I would take all the pain to let the consumer beaureus and all users know my experience with reliance and the difference between reliance and TATA. It was not our fault and the behaviour really sucks. When asked almost 100 times that I need to know where I can write a complaint he refused to tell me and said he will do it from his end. I told him I would go online and write through blogs and make sure I reach teh right person which I would certainly do and he said its no point……

hi friends,
I am using Reliance netconnect plus (3.2 Mbps plan) since last 3 months. I am facing so many problems with the connection. the speed is really worst perhaps its WORLDS SLOWEST NET CONNECTION. Even though I plotted so many complaints to care center, their service is the worst.
I recommend not to go for RELIANCE. If you need any frustrations or if u have lot many ie if u want to waste money then u can go for it. I heard that this connection faced more than 2000 complaints. its really shame for the company.
Aditya says
reliance claimed that this device will give speed of 3.1mbps but that’s totally fraud. it also claimed download/upload speed of 1.8mbps that again a fraud. they claimed consistent fast speed which has been proved a joke now….
the only thing they are consistent in is the Bill System…
my advice to people is to avoid buying this device from reliance….

RELIANCE NETCONECT+:
Friends I am from mumbai and I am Reliance Netconnect+ user. I have read most of the reviews of the reliance netconnect+….i feel bad about them who are suffering from lots of problem with the reliance. but let me share my personal experience with you…
1.Speed and network:
No doubt that company is claiming 144kbps speed but it gives upto 80 to 90 kbps speed….still it is good and useful while travelling in train also… my point is where ever you go if it has reliance network around it get connected at slow speed as they said that they have connectivity in 500+cities… but at least you can brows it which is important.
2.Connection:
Best thing about the reliance i must say is before buying new data card from reliance they provides free demo of the USB internet data card to check the speed of product. And within 24 hour the card get connected. Even the data card is automatically got configure with users laptop and PC easily. There is no need to call customer care center again and again for this issue. If users free data usage gets over on some time then only internet speed go down automatically and its get connected with lower speed HSD or 1X.
3.Billing:
I always have an issue with the billing problem….they send me bill before due date but once i called to customer care and they sort it out…now i can pay my bills through IVR (Interactive Voice Response) using credit cards.
4.Customer service:
One thing i notice about reliance is their good call center’s software. In that; consumer just have to remember his complain number, once user have give their customer number then they are able to fish it out all information.
5.Plans:
Reliance Netconnect+ has many plans regarding postpaid and prepaid which can be suitable to the consumer. Postpaid plans are having much more range like regular plan, unlimited plans, time based plan, night or day plans etc. They are started with 100MB to 21GB at affordable price for Reliance Netconnect+. And free data usage are offered for just 50p/1 Mb or Re1/Mb for reliance Netconnect+ Prepaid plans are started with the 250MB to 15GB available from Rs.180 to 1200/-. And free usages are provided for Re.1/1MB.
Plans are available nationwide roaming facility that means zero rupees for the roaming. Postpaid unlimited plan are available jus for Rs.750 onwards.
6.Price:
In India the most affordable USB modem is Reliance and it’s offered only for Rs.1599/- which is near to the ground compare to other competitors.
7.Other points:
Recharge facility is also available online or user can able to recharge from reliance’s retail outlet also.
8.Performance:
One good thing about reliance is it always gets connected in rural areas with feeble network. If user is having 3.1mbps speed still he will get at least 210 kbps to 2.1mbps speed which is still good. Till now Reliance Netconect+ is performing well rather than any other device.
Really i must say If we talk about Easy Installation and Speedy Browsing reliance is BEST.

r u brand ambassador for RELIANCE ?
Rakesh Kumar says
Hi
I will never suggest any one to buy Reliance net connect broadband+ wireless modem. because its speed is very poor. customer care is just time pass. and billing system is very punctual, either you are using data card or not. Also if i am using 200KB or 500KB reliance will deduct charge of 1024KB.
So, my request to all please avoid reliance data card.
Rakesh
Dheeraj Dixit says
I made a very big mistake when i bought this data card.
I fully paid to rs 3500 while buying &
it cost so much on the rental i see some songs & videos it goes up to 2000 / month & plan was of 700 / month
in just one month device has loose its network.
i complained about this at support but no responsibility were show to me
i requested for postpaid to prepaid & relince make me fool at that time also.
after the device has blocked in only 3 months relince keep going added 700 INR per month & service taxes also for using 0 kb.
and after 2 or 3 month they gives us notice for a legal work against me
for not paying those follish bills.
i lost my 3500 for device + monthly rental +700 extra per moth + taxes + 700 bill for the month not using any byte + relief & get notice also.
I am a gentleman i pay what relince wants for bearing his device
one thing about service centers
same problem in my friends netconnect went to service they gave him after 40 or 4 days & after that they saw the same problem.
there is a very big procedure to stop billing when your low quality device has stopped work & very short procedure for take bill send legal notice.
Thanks Relince

NEVER BUY reliance Broadband. trust me I bought it and regret that decision, in less than a month I have had to buy BSNL 3 G..
Reliance does not have Broadband..you will end up having to use the 1x setting
jayant bhat says
I think connectivity depends on the area that we are in at the time of connection. I have been using Reliance broadband ever since they launched and I have never complained even once. I had a corporate connection of other competitor of reliance and found that reliance broadband gave better results.
Tried BSNL too,but still i feel reliance scores over others.
bharathy says
hello friends, im planning to buy the reliance netconnect, however imostly have used unlimited internt due to my usuage. any idea if the 15GB plan wud suit me, if i use th einternt for 8-10 hrs per day… my daily browing content (general browsing, no heavy image websites, no movie downloads, very simple sites) kindly lemme knw if 15 / month is sufficient for me… im v poor at diagnosing this… plz reply.
Mohan says
if you aren’t going to use too much for videos and images, then 15GB should be more than enough per month!

Now i Tested BSNL 3G 3.6 Mbps
Device Cost – Rs.3500
Unlimited Prepaid Plan – Rs.2500
Normal Browsing Speed – 1 Mbps
Download Speed – 2 Mbps
But BSNL DNS is poor. It takes 3 seconds for Lookup.

Must Agree with you on all what you said.! This little wonder has been really working great.
It takes around 90 minutes for me to reach office, and I use this device during the travel. The network doesnt get disrupted nor the speed is shaky! – Thats when I watch Youtube and also write articles for my blog! he he..!
Though people cuss so much about Reliance Customer Support, this product is indeed a good one.
Cheers’

Good review sir,
Thanks for sharing your personal experience with us, I was searching for such review only. Well, I cannot afford that at present age & I’m using airtel mobile office which costs nearly 400 RS per month (unlimited) via cellphone to Laptop.

Hi,
I was awfully impressed by the connectivity as well. I live abroad and visit India once in a while. Wanting to have a good connectivity tempted me to go for the Reliance modem. It was quick, convenient and well…it did what I wanted it to. That is one half of the story. i took up this connection in Oc t 2007. By April 2008 I realised I would not be around in India for over a year, so decided to discontinue the service. This is where the problem started. I submitted a letter seeking discontinuation and cleared all the bills. Next thing, a day ago, after nearly a year, I get a notice from the Delhi High Court labelling me as a defaulter of payments and that a case has been lodged against me. Now, after having my Dad run around showing proof and documents of the account, I have half a mind of slapping a case back on them. Terribly disappointed! This is the Vaishali Nagar, Amrapali Circle Reliance Outlet in Jaipur. I would recommend everyone to move with caution especially with the paperwork. The team behind the modem is not half as smart as the modem itself.
Mohan says
Sandy, you should consider going to consumer court. Customer support has always been a nightmare in India. Not just reliance, but the other players are no different here. Thanks for sharing your experience.
suparna says
thanks for sharing….it was really usefull

Shrinidhi Hande says
I’ve a feeling that it is fast because it is new and subscriber base is yet to build up. Have to see if good speed is sustained after few months
Mohan says
I would rule out that option Shrinidhi. Reason is that there a huge base of broadband subscribers in Bangalore and yet I was able to connect at much faster rates during both peak and non peak hours. I think the HSD network is the real reason for better speed.
shruti says
Can’t AGREE more than this…It was soo helpful, when I worked from home during my sister’s marriage..I was little doubtful, while paying for this since I never took any feedbcak on it but had to pick it up urently…Its so simple, good speed and worth !!!!
Mohan says
Even I was amazed to see this USB device to work at a speed faster than my BSNL 2mbps line!

Any thoughts on Tata Photon+. You have mentioned good amount of positive stuff about this Reliance BB+, can you also share any drawbacks of this?
Mohan says
Hi Shiv, I haven’t used Tata Photon+. The one I had used earlier was Vdatacard from Tata Indicom. The only drawback that I can think of Reliance BB+ is that, they don’t have unlimited data transfer plans. The cost seem to be a little too high when compared to similar players in the market like BSNL or Tata. Other than that, I can’t think of any right now 🙂
