The wait is over! Brace up to book your Tata Nano car very soon. State Bank of India (SBI) to be the sole booking authority for the much hyped people car of India according to chief general manager of Bengal SBI circle. If we were to go by various news reports in media, the SBI will distribute the prospectus in 100 selected branches across the country. The booking is expected to start towards the end of March and the initial amount could be around Rs 70,000 per car. tata-nano-carSince the affordability of this car is well within the expectations of  ‘Aam Janata’, it is expected to be a mad rush for bookings.

Various reports suggest that the allotment of the first 100 cars will be made through a random lucky draw and it may not be first come first serve basis. Though the car cost is expected to be around 1.25 lakhs, booking price is not cheap for sure. The Telegraph news reported that Tata Motors is expected to produce 3,000 cars a month in the beginning, while it is willing to accept orders for one lakh cars. Another  prominent journal Hindu Business lines reports a spokesman having quoted that Tata Motors will give all the details concerning bookings on March 23,  2009. It goes on to mention that bookings will begin from the second week of April and customers may have to wait since the Nano will only be available in small numbers initially.

Whatever the news may be, Tata show rooms and SBI should start to ramp up their staff to handle the mad rush. It is just less than a month to read the official announcement from Tata Motors about the booking of its Nano car. I just can’t imagine how bad the things are going to be. With around 30,000 cars production per month, how can they cater to lakhs of customers who will be booking these cars? Pay 70K for booking and cross your fingers till you get a call from TATA!

3 Mohan February 28, 2009 at 12:58 pm

@Chintan
Yeah, it all attributes to the delay in production and much hyped political stirs near certain manufacturing plants. It would be wrong to blame it on TATA’s though!

@Rajan Sharma
Well, a person might opt to buy a Nano instead of a bike. There are millions of such people in India :)

Tata’s have lived upto their word & the entire nation awaits with abated breath for the launch of the Nano. Congratulations in adavance to Ratan Tata. Surely, this car will re revolutionise the Indian automobile scenario & for the first time the great Indian middle class will rally behind the Tata dream & grab on to this opportunity of owning a car & give the much desired comfort to their family.

Looks good & mileage around 20-22 km will be a hit. However delivery time will be a factor as bookings if made open to all should be whooping. Tatas should be laughing their way to the banks & make up for the low margins thru the interest.

I am sure this car will bring a total revolution in Indian way of life just as Ford did for USA. Soon Roads will get congested. Peripheral areas around major cites will develop very fast. People will start to migrate from main cities to peripherals. Roads construction , Dhabbas, picnic spots, Insurance business everything will get a boost. Hope this will revive the Indian economy as Maruti IPO initiated Stock Market boom for iNDIA !!!. Autos & bykes will go off the roads.Please give Ur thoughts on this !!!!

Reply

45 aash March 31, 2009 at 1:47 pm

i’m really surprised that not many of us are talking about the congestion that this wud lead to going forward. m sure a lot of people will benefit from this car, but we cant ignore the percentage of people who wud buy this car only bcoz it costs so less and not bcoz they really need one. i think this is going to lead to reckless buying of the car. with the roads in the metros and other major cities already clogged, i wonder how we can manage the traffic and the pollution problems in the future. but this is definitely a huge impetus for the development of all the peripheral areas around major cities, cant deny that.
