Yesterday I visited Big Bazaar (Banashankari branch, Kathriguppe, Bangalore). I shopped for a trolley full of goods and approached one of the billing counter. There was a smart lady with lots of patience looking at each of the item and swiping across the barcode reader for computerized billing. Unfortunately, there was no barcode on of the the box containing edible oil pouches. There were 10 pouches of 1 ltr sunflower oil in that box, summing up to 10 litres. Just to ensure the right number of pouches were there, she opened up the box as well and counted. I reminded her that there were only 10 and not 12, she smiled and said she noticed that too. Then i was caught up with many other goods that are being billed. Paid the amount as per the billing and left the counter with goods. Once i came outside the store, i noticed I was billed for 12 litres instead of 10. I had to talk to that lady again and convince her as well as her manager that the billing was wrongly done by showing up the box again. After a while, they asked me whether i would like to pick up another 2 pouches of oil or want the money to be refunded. I opted for former since I was not in a mood to spend another 15-20 minutes for them to process the refund.

My suggestion to readers is that be careful when you are at billing counter and you might be in the wrong end to shell our more from your pocket!

I visited the eZone store in Jayanagar last week for shopping a cellphone and a music system. Mobiles display/sell zone was very small and not many models were available. Store attendees were not sure about the sale price for most of the mobiles. For some of the phones, they quoted more than what was there on the box as MRP for my surprise! It was really a shock to notice a display price being more than MRP and just below that Display price, they had mentioned ezone price which was obviously discounted. When enquired about the same, they said “Sir, we have no clue, our manager has asked us to sell at this price and that is why you see that display price” I lost faith in purchasing a cell phone from ezone and moved on to audio systems zone.

They had pretty good collection of various models across all major brands. I liked one of the sony home theater system and decided to purchase that. Again I was at shock. The seller boy said, that piece is out of stock and that model is not in stock since 1 month! Hah… when I enquired why it was kept for display, he replied we want to show our customers all the models. My question didn’t get an answer for sure.. if a particular model is not in stock, why do you put it for display and make customers kill their time looking at it for at least 10/15 mins?

Finally, I found a philips home theater to be good over there and purchased the same. There wasn’t much discount wrt price compared to other stores. I woudn’t really think of going to eZone stores again.
